Chapter 7: Your Skirt Is Messed Up, Ruan Ruan
“Breathe, Ruan Siyi.”
Outside the window, the night in Haicheng was as serene as silk.
The wind slipped in through the slightly open window, carrying the warm, salty tang of the ocean—gentle yet clinging, brushing against the skin and leaving behind a faint, cool touch.
Though the tone was commanding, like that of someone in control, Ruan Siyi detected a trace of tenderness in it.
For some reason, she felt an inexplicable familiarity with the scene before her.
As if, a long, long time ago, they had once been this close.
Fu Ru’an sat up, rolling off of her, and turned off the dim bedside lamp before settling down on the other side of the bed.
The bed wasn’t large—just enough for two people.
Ruan Siyi could feel their arms occasionally brushing against each other in the dark, friction sparking like a fleeting flame in the shadows. The heat from that smooth, delicate skin traveled straight to her heart, leaving her throat inexplicably dry.
“Sleep well. Sweet dreams.”
Fu Ru’an’s voice was low and soft, like the resonant hum of a cello—carrying a hidden vibration.
Ruan Siyi closed her eyes, trying to calm the restless emotions from earlier. But the unavoidable physical contact, the subtle shifts in the mattress from small movements, continued to dance along her nerves, as if deliberately teasing her composure.
Much later, in the pitch-black room, Fu Ru’an turned her head slightly and opened her eyes.
Those eyes, deep as the ocean, gazed at Ruan Siyi under the faint moonlight.
Ruan Siyi slept in a very obedient posture. Despite being taller, she curled herself into a small ball, like some kind of adorable large breed of dog:
Usually fierce and unapproachable, yet only docile in front of its owner. Retracting its sharp claws and teeth, it would gently lick with a soft, vulnerable tongue until that person, too, was marked by its scent.
She had never imagined that Ruan Siyi would truly come back—back to this world, back to her side.
Since she’s back, she won’t let go again.
Ruan Siyi fell asleep with the words “sweet dreams,” but her rest was far from peaceful.
In her dream, she found herself back in high school.
The campus in midsummer was bathed in waves of heat, sunlight filtering through the gaps between leaves and casting dappled shadows on the ground, swaying gently with the breeze.
The paulownia trees outside the classroom building shimmered with a dazzling green under the sun, while the cicadas’ chirping rose and fell like a summer soundtrack.
The classroom during lunch break was nearly empty, save for the occasional sound of footsteps echoing in the hallway.
Ruan Siyi stood by the desk, leaning back slightly, her fingers gripping the edge tightly. The hem of her skirt brushed against her thighs, swaying uneasily with her subtle movements.
Fu Ru’an, meanwhile, leaned casually against the desk, her gaze carrying an inscrutable meaning as she slowly closed the distance.
Her fingertips inadvertently grazed the edge of Ruan Siyi’s skirt, the delicate fabric sliding under her touch—yet the owner of that skirt trembled faintly, as if unable to withstand such teasing.
Ruan Siyi’s heartbeat quickened suddenly. She wanted to retreat, but Fu Ru’an effortlessly blocked her escape.
“You… what are you doing?”
In the dream, both Ruan Siyi and Fu Ru’an looked youthful, dressed in their formal Western-style school uniforms.
Ruan Siyi was startled by her actions, like a frightened rabbit.
“I heard you presented as an Alpha?”
Fu Ru’an’s lips curled into a faint smile, one that didn’t reach her eyes.
“On what grounds?”
To be precise, Fu Ru’an had never imagined she would present as an omega.
Her mother and maternal figure had raised her from childhood as the heir to the Fu family. In the eyes of everyone, alphas were naturally strong, commanding, and born to be the leaders of this world.
On the day she presented as an omega, her alpha mother—who had always been satisfied with her and treated her with kindness—slapped her across the face for the first time.
“Useless. You’re not even as good as the timid, incompetent younger daughter of our housekeeper. At least she presented as a high-quality alpha.”
Her mother’s gaze was icy as she looked at her.
“Look at you now. A fragile omega, controlled by heats—what use do you have besides lying in bed and bearing children for some alpha?”
And Ruan Siyi was that very daughter of the Fu family’s housekeeper, the one her mother had spoken of—the child the Fu family had sponsored to attend their elite academy.
“I… I didn’t mean to.”
Ruan Siyi’s eyes widened. She hadn’t expected the aloof, peerlessly proud young lady of the Fu family to corner her in an empty classroom over something like this.
The cool surface of the desk seeped through the fabric of her skirt, sending a chill against her skin, and the faint scent of Fu Ru’an only made her feel more uneasy.
“Senior Fu, even as an omega, you’re already more impressive than most alphas.”
Ruan Siyi thought of the other girl’s straight-A report card, of how she had lapped the second-place runner by an entire lap in the 1,500-meter race at the sports festival. A glimmer of admiration unconsciously flickered in her eyes.
There was something about Fu Ru’an—an aura that could make even alphas submit without a fight.
The distance between the two was so close that she could almost smell the faint scent of pheromones emanating from Fu Ru’an, who had just recently presented and couldn’t quite control them yet.
“Someone could come into the classroom at any moment, Senior…”
Ruan Siyi was nervous.
Fu Ru’an, however, lowered her head, her gaze focused, her fingertips slowly tracing the edge of Ruan Siyi’s uniform skirt, her voice was ambiguous and low.
“Your skirt is a bit messy, Junior Ruan Ruan.”
As if she were truly just smoothing out the rumpled folds of her skirt, Fu Ru’an let go of her after saying this.
“Why are you so nervous? We’re in a classroom, after all.”
“What could I possibly do to you? My little Alpha.”
Fu Ru’an returned to her usual aloofness demeanor, though her tone was slightly warmer than when she had first arrived, tinged with a hint of summer’s warmth.
“You really are quite silly, but there’s one thing you said that was right.”
“Whether as an Alpha or an Omega, Fu Ru’an remains exceptional—that fact won’t change.”
In the end, Ruan Siyi wasn’t sure if it was her imagination, but she thought she faintly heard a soft “thank you” drift past her ears.
Maybe it was just her imagination.
By the time Ruan Siyi woke from her dream, daylight was already streaming in.
Everything in the dream felt as though it had actually happened, but even though she had once been in an accident and lost her memories, she knew it was just a dream.
She had only ended up in this world by crossing into a novel by accident.
Fu Ru’an would never have appeared in her youth.
After both of them had finished washing up, the production crew came to check on them and began the day’s live broadcast.
【Here we go! Here to see our Fu Fu!】
【Oh my god, are these two fresh out of washing their faces, completely barefaced? So beautiful… Their skin is truly enviable (crying cat emoji)】
“Good morning, Teacher Fu and Teacher Ruan!”
Ai Ke greeted them with a smile.
“As everyone knows, the key to a productive day lies in the morning. At such a sunrise moment, breakfast is not just the first meal of the day, but a kind of life ritual—it brings new hope and energy.”
“This morning, our production team has specially prepared a selection of Haishi’s local specialty breakfasts for our guests to enjoy!”
Ruan Siyi followed the direction Aike was pointing.
She saw that on the dining table, an array of Haishi’s specialty breakfast dishes were neatly arranged. They were vibrant in color and emitted a tantalizing aroma.
Steaming rice noodles were served in delicate bowls; the noodles were tender yet firm, smooth and glistening, with a golden sheen of oil floating on the soup’s surface, as if inviting people to taste them. Beside them were coconut cakes, the white bodies of the cakes adorned with fine coconut flakes, with a refreshing coconut fragrance subtly spreading through the air.
Ruan Siyi’s eyes instantly lit up, and her eyelashes fluttered like a little hamster catching sight of delicious food.
[Help! She’s so cute! I want to steal her and raise her at home~]
[This is the daughter I was destined to have! Sweetie, what color of burlap sack do you like? Mommy will go get it for you!]
[Hahahaha, whoever said that better hope Best Actress Fu doesn’t come after you for stealing!]
[Seriously? Ruan Siyi has fans? So what if she’s cute? She’s still trash!]
[I believe in what I see on the live stream! At least for now, I think Ruan Siyi seems pretty nice and has a good personality—nothing like what you all say!]
“Ahem!”
Seeing Ruan Siyi’s hands itching to reach out, Director Aike gave two deliberate coughs to stop her.
“But—there’s no such thing as a free lunch. If you want to enjoy this sumptuous breakfast, our guests will first need to complete a little challenge: a compatibility quiz!”
[You’re kidding, right? Testing them? What if they can’t get a single answer right—how embarrassing would that be.]
[Honestly though, if it’s these two—the entertainment industry’s famously fake couple—it kind of makes sense.]
[I can already feel the secondhand embarrassment coming…]
Ruan Siyi was momentarily stunned. “That’s it?”
She thought it would be something serious.
Thankfully, she had come prepared. In order to convincingly act as a real CP with her “Sister Fu,” she had specially asked Fu Ruan’s agent for her personal profile before joining the variety show.
After a frenzied round of memorization, she now had all of Fu Ru’an’s life details and dietary habits committed to memory—how could she possibly fear any questions from the production team?
A piece of cake.
“Go ahead, ask away.”
Ruan Siyi leisurely sat down at the dining table, looking every bit like someone who had “this breakfast absolutely in the bag.”
“Teacher Ruan, who said I was going to ask you?”
Ai Ke smirked mischievously, then suddenly pointed straight in Fu Ru’an’s direction.
“The one we’re quizzing is Teacher Fu.”
“Teacher Fu needs to answer ten questions about you correctly. Only if he gets them all right will the challenge be considered a success. Then, and only then, will you both have the privilege of enjoying the exquisite local breakfast prepared by our production team.”
Ruan Siyi’s smile instantly froze on her face.
