Chapter 5: Three Sentences That Made a Second-Generation Rich Kid Give Me 3,000
Jiang Qianqian had already changed into her gown and was sitting restlessly on the sofa downstairs, occasionally looking up at the stairs, anxiously waiting for Jiang Jing to appear.
Time ticked by, and finally, Jiang Jing slowly came down the stairs. When Jiang Qianqian saw that she had finally come down, she quickly asked the housekeeper to take her to change into her gown.
“You’re so slow. The banquet is about to start if I wait any longer,” she said with a hint of impatience, her slender fingers lightly tapping the table to express her dissatisfaction.
The gown wasn’t overly elaborate, and with the housekeeper’s help, Jiang Jing was dressed in no time. Surprisingly, the gown fit her perfectly and was well-tailored. It was clear that Jiang Jing’s parents had put a lot of thought into choosing it.
Jiang Jing carefully held up the hem of the dress, afraid of accidentally stepping on it. She had hardly ever worn high heels, and even though these weren’t that high, walking in them still felt a bit difficult. The distance from the dressing room to the living room was only a few meters, but Jiang Jing felt like every step was a struggle.
“Are you ready? Come out already, don’t dawdle—” Jiang Qianqian’s words were cut short as she froze, staring at the person in front of her.
The girl’s slightly awkward appearance came into view. Her slender arms were encased in black velvet gloves, making her skin look even fairer. Jiang Qianqian couldn’t help but recall the hand that had held hers tightly moments ago, strong and warm. The person who had once calmly saved her by wielding a talisman now looked a bit uneasy. She stood still, occasionally tugging at her skirt, seemingly unaccustomed to the outfit.
Seeing this, Jiang Qianqian couldn’t help but cover her mouth and chuckle, a hint of mischief in her eyes. She never thought that someone who was usually so calm would have such a flustered moment.
“You seem a little strange. Why are you making that face?” Jiang Jing’s voice, usually cold, now held a hint of confusion.
Jiang Qianqian realized she had lost her composure and quickly tried to cover it up. “It’s nothing. It’s just that your necklace doesn’t quite match. I’ll get you one of mine.”
Jiang Jing frowned slightly, looking down at the necklace on her chest. “But didn’t this jewelry come with the gown? It should be a set, right?”
“What do they know about matching!” Jiang Qianqian said in a hurried tone, quickly walking away, leaving a slightly flustered back behind her.
How bizarre. Did her inner stylist suddenly awaken? Jiang Jing began to question herself, wondering if she had somehow damaged Jiang Qianqian’s brain while exorcising the ghost.
At 7 p.m., the banquet began on time. The banquet hall was brightly lit and filled with guests—all from prestigious families and honored guests who were on good terms with the Jiang family. The guests chatted with each other, and the clinking of glasses was constant.
Just then, the heavy doors of the banquet hall slowly opened. The noisy crowd instantly fell silent, and everyone’s eyes turned to the entrance. They all wanted to see what the adopted daughter that the Jiang family had suddenly announced looked like.
Jiang Qianqian linked arms with Jiang Jing, and the two walked gracefully into the banquet hall. The two girls walked side by side, holding each other’s arms, smiling and nodding at the guests, their every move showing their good upbringing.
“Why are there so many people?” Jiang Jing whispered to Jiang Qianqian.
“Just keep smiling. Our parents are here for everything else,” Jiang Qianqian replied in the same low voice, her lips curved into a perfect arc.
Jiang Jing’s parents stood in the center of the banquet hall, smiling as they introduced Jiang Jing to the guests. Their tone was gentle yet solemn as they announced to everyone present that from now on, Jiang Jing was a daughter of the Jiang family. After the introduction, they let Jiang Qianqian take Jiang Jing to a quiet corner to rest. It was clear they didn’t want Jiang Jing to feel too much pressure and hoped she would slowly adapt to her new identity.
In a corner of the banquet hall, Jiang Qianqian handed Jiang Jing a glass of apple juice. “You ate so much at dinner, you must be a little tired of it, right? Have some juice to freshen up.”
Jiang Jing nodded and was about to drink from the glass when an irritating male voice interrupted her.
“How unsophisticated. Hiding here and just drinking juice. Drink up, so these expensive ingredients don’t upset your stomach.” The boy was wearing an expensive suit and holding a glass of champagne. A mocking smile was plastered on his face.
This area was far from the center of the banquet, so the adults barely noticed this corner. Jiang Jing looked the boy up and down. His eyes were watery but a little vacant, his tear troughs were dark, and his eyebrows were messy. She could tell at a glance that he was an uneducated, lecherous second-generation rich kid.
“Your stomach must be so special, having grown up on golden water since birth,” Jiang Qianqian said, rolling her eyes without a hint of politeness. She was merciless when it came to insults, especially since this person had no connection with her. Yet, his reputation for being lecherous and arrogant was already notorious in their social circle.
“You—” The second-generation rich kid’s face darkened from the insult. He stood up abruptly, pointing at Jiang Jing’s nose as if he were about to start a brawl.
“Instead of arguing with us here, you should be thinking about whether your parents will break your legs if they find out you’ve been messing around and have two children,” Jiang Jing suddenly said, cutting him off. The moment she spoke, the people around who were watching the show began to whisper, their gazes filled with curiosity and surprise.
“What a joke!” The young master sneered, his face full of disdain. “Every entertainment headline knows about my recent gossip. If you want to pretend to be a fortuneteller, you should at least do your homework first. I only have one girlfriend, and she’s already pregnant. We’re getting engaged next month.” He spoke with a righteous tone, as if Jiang Jing’s words were just nonsense.
“Oh? Is that so?” Jiang Jing raised an eyebrow slightly, looking at him calmly. “Does that short-haired beauty who’s been inseparable from you lately think the same?”
Jiang Jing had just seen a deep line in his Marriage Palace. After a quick calculation, she found that he had another “bad karma” with a woman.
“What short-haired… What else do you know?!” His expression immediately changed. He hadn’t expected Jiang Jing to know so much.
“I also know that you’re old acquaintances and that she’s already had an abortion for you,” Jiang Jing said. After a quick divination, she realized that the woman already had a life on her hands, which must mean she had had an abortion.
“Yo, Liu Jia, if your fiancée finds out about this, she’ll scratch your face off, hahahaha.” Another young man who was watching the show teased him. Liu Jia’s face was ashen, like the bottom of a pot.
“I can’t believe it. Did you hire a paparazzi? Was it worth it, just to embarrass me today?” Liu Jia said angrily, his finger pointing at Jiang Jing, as if he were about to curse at her any second.
“I didn’t hire anyone. Since you’re such a big deal, Young Master Liu, you can easily find out if any paparazzi know about this. Lastly, I’ll be generous and tell you one more thing: In three days, you will face a calamity of bloodshed,” Jiang Jing said, stopping Jiang Qianqian who was about to curse at him, and gave Liu Jia another “gift.”
Liu Jia’s face immediately turned ugly. He asked Jiang Jing in a trembling voice, “Is that true? What should I do?”
Jiang Jing gave him a mysterious smile and shook her head profoundly.
“I beg you, Master, please tell me what to do. I really don’t want to die!” Seeing that Jiang Jing wasn’t saying anything, Liu Jia was so anxious he was about to kneel and kowtow to her.
“Don’t worry,” Jiang Jing said unhurriedly, taking out her phone and opening the screen. The people around looked closer and saw a QR code for a payment. “Venmo me 3,000, and I’ll tell you how to resolve it.”
Although Liu Jia was very reluctant, he was also half-believing. For the sake of his life, he transferred 3,000. “Alright, now tell me what to do.”
“The way is to go to the hospital in City H at 9 a.m. tomorrow and donate 800 milliliters of bl00d. Remember, not a minute earlier or later, or this method won’t work,” Jiang Jing said in a confident tone, as if if Liu Jia went even a minute earlier, he would die on the street.
Liu Jia’s expression was even more mortified. “You’re asking for 3,000 just to trick me into donating bl00d?”
“If you don’t donate bl00d, you might end up in the hospital from a car accident. Of course, if you like getting hit, I won’t stop you,” Jiang Jing said, shrugging helplessly. I’ve already told him what to do, why does he like getting hit so much?
Without waiting for Liu Jia to ask anything else, she grabbed Jiang Qianqian’s hand and slipped away.
As Jiang Qianqian’s hand was being pulled, she asked Jiang Jing curiously, “Why can’t he go to the hospital a minute earlier? Will he get hit by a car if he does?”
Jiang Jing stopped and smiled. “The hospital isn’t open that early. Why would he go so early?”
Jiang Qianqian couldn’t help but roll her eyes again. She shook off Jiang Jing’s hand. “You’re a truly practical person. I almost believed everything you said.”
Jiang Jing immediately held up three fingers and explained to Jiang Qianqian, “But I didn’t lie about him having a calamity of bloodshed. It’s just a small one where he’ll get a cut. I’m just making him donate bl00d to teach him a lesson.”
Jiang Qianqian laughed after hearing Jiang Jing’s explanation. The two of them looked at each other and quietly moved even further away from Liu Jia.
The banquet ended at 9 p.m. Jiang Jing and Jiang Qianqian stood beside their parents, smiling and seeing off the guests. When they saw Liu Jia leave with an ashen face, they couldn’t help but huddle together and giggle. When Liu Jia heard their laughter, he walked away without looking back, as if his shoes had been greased.
Jiang Yuying saw how well they were getting along and let out a sigh of relief, a look of comfort on her face.
The next day after lunch, Jiang Jing and Jiang Qianqian took a car back to school. Since they had already notified the school beforehand, the housekeeper helped Jiang Jing carry her luggage upstairs. When Jiang Jing arrived at the dorm, she found that her room was very close to Jiang Qianqian’s, with only two dorms in between.
With Jiang Yuying’s instructions, Jiang Jing and Jiang Qianqian began to spend more time together. Whether it was studying at the library or eating out, the two were inseparable. At first, Jiang Jing was a bit reserved. Whenever she video-called her parents, she seemed a bit distant. But as time went on, whenever Jiang Qianqian video-called her family, she would always see Jiang Jing naturally say hello. Over time, Jiang Jing’s tone also became more familiar when she talked to her parents on the phone.
After returning to school, Jiang Jing often went to the nearby antique market on weekends to look for things. Since she had transmigrated into this body, and her qi from her previous life was still there, she couldn’t afford to be lazy and neglect her cultivation. She found some divination tools and went to a famous temple in City H to buy two stacks of talisman paper. In her free time, she would draw two talismans to be prepared for any emergencies.
The end of June in City H was already stiflingly hot. In the past, Jiang Jing would spend every summer by the mountain spring behind the temple. It was not only cool, but there were also fewer mosquitoes. Although her dorm had air conditioning, the temperature outside was hot enough to fry an egg, so she didn’t want to take a single step outside.
Tomorrow was the last day of her final exam week. She only had one more public elective class before she could go home. Jiang Jing was sitting bored in her chair, flipping through the printed practice questions. Last night, since she had nothing to do, she did a divination about the results of her exam the day after tomorrow. The divination told her that she would do well, so she relaxed and started playing around.
“This is bad, Sister. Come to 420 quickly. Something happened with my roommate, and I need your help.” A message from Jiang Qianqian popped up. Jiang Jing opened her phone and saw the plea for help. She immediately grabbed her phone and ran out.
I hope they didn’t play spirit-writing again late at night, Jiang Jing thought helplessly, recalling the story Jiang Qianqian had told her.
