Graduation Ceremony
The third semester passed by. It was marked with events like Valentine’s Day and White Day.
But nothing particularly eventful happened—we simply enjoyed our pleasant everyday lives.
And then came March.
We were attending the graduation ceremony to see off the graduating class—as current students.
“……..Why is Kanefune-senpai standing on the current students’ side?”
“Exactly! This is incredibly improper, Kanefune-senpai.”
Both Shizuku and I, along with the other students and even the graduates, were utterly baffled by her antics.
“Oh, right. Guess I didn’t mention it,”
Kanefune-senpai answered nonchalantly.
Normally, you’d think she’d be too embarrassed to even be here, but apparently not.
“Yeah… I flunked the year.”
…
.
.
.
“Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat!?”
Both the graduating class and the current students screamed in shock at her completely unexpected confession.
“You never fail to keep things interesting, Kanefune-senpai.”
“…Seriously.”
What was supposed to be a ceremony where we reflected on memories of the past days, perhaps shedding a tear or two, had instead turned into a moment of collective bewilderment. It was thanks to Kanefune-senpai’s revelation about repeating the year.
Even as a scion of a wealthy family, when you mess up, you mess up.
It was a sobering reminder to stay diligent.
Or at least, let me believe that.
“Shizuku-chan! Higashitani-chan! Help meee!”
Kanefune-senpai suddenly lunged toward me, grabbing onto me for support.
However, I calmly pushed her away and spoke firmly.
“Please let go, Kanefune-senpai. You’re embarrassing yourself.”
“You cold-hearted monster! Was I just a fling to you!?”
“No, this is entirely your own fault, Senpai.”
With a deadpan expression, Shizuku delivered the final blow.
Just then, someone else appeared.
“My lady, please face Chairman Mokudai’s wrath.”
“Nooooo! I want to live freely! Someone, please rescue meeeee!”
Kanefune-senpai wailed dramatically. But her bodyguard ignored her pleas and dragged her off somewhere.
Even though she had a boyfriend, it seemed she still wasn’t allowed to show it publicly.
The person who dragged her away was probably someone sent by Chairman Mokudai.
That’s likely why they didn’t pay any attention to Kanefune-senpai’s antics.
“If everything goes smoothly, we’ll be graduating next.”
“Yeah, it feels so fast. There’s only one year left.”
“It just shows how intense our second year was.”
“Seriously…”
The chaotic days before summer vacation, the estrangement with Ichijou afterward, and the peaceful days with Shizuku.
The second semester’s finale was packed with events.
Probably the only time we could relax was the third semester.
“It’s still a bit early to say things will slow down now, though.”
“Yeah, we’ve got to think about whether we’ll get jobs or go to college.”
“Let’s take our time and talk about it at home.”
“Sure… want to come to my place?”
“…Yeah, let’s take our time. We have plenty of it right now.”
With that, Shizuku and I started heading home.
Hand in hand, we walked together toward my house.
