- Chapter 14 - Your Eyes Can Only See Me
Before Li Qing even fully registered Ning Shu’s meaning, Ning Shu had already slipped away. She had lost to Li Qing fair and square, so now it was time to sit back on the high platform and watch the show.
Unexpectedly, Li Qing was bolder than her. She directly turned to Master Huikong and said, “It’s getting late. Perhaps everyone should go have lunch. Watching people kill each other isn’t really entertaining.”
With that, she stepped down from the platform, walking toward the Tian Shu area, a charming smile on her face. Surprisingly, Master Huikong agreed. After consulting briefly with the Wudang leader, he announced that the morning matches were over and everyone could go eat.
Ning Shu: “…”
If I had known it would be this easy, I wouldn’t have wasted my time up there.
The sects filed out in order. Ning Bai, who should have left first, lingered at the entrance, deliberately waiting for Ning Shu.
Seeing him made her stomach turn. She ignored him and kept walking but Ning Bai suddenly called out.
“Shu’er, are you going to treat your father like this forever? Back then, I wronged your mother. I had no choice. After all these years, won’t you forgive me?”
His tone was unbearably sincere, as if he were a father desperately begging his daughter for forgiveness. Only Ning Shu knew the darkness hidden behind that carefully crafted facade.
“You abandoned us mercilessly for your own future, causing my mother to die in sorrow, yet you became the respected ‘Master Ning.’ Don’t you find your words ironic? If I forgave you, how could I face my deceased mother?”
Seeing that appeals to filial piety had no effect, Ning Bai quickly switched tactics. “It’s all my fault, everything, anything you want, I’ll do. Don’t let yourself fall, child! Yan Yue Palace is the demonic sect, it opposes us.
If you return to the Ning family, everything I own now and in the future will be yours. My bl00d runs in your veins how could I bear to see you used by the demonic sect? Come back with me.”
Ning Shu prided herself on her acting skills she could speak to anyone in their language, charm anyone with words. Today, she truly understood what it meant to be a master actor. If she hadn’t seen the original owner’s tragic life, she might have believed Ning Bai’s lies.
“Master Ning, stop playing the hero. We both know what’s in your heart, so spare me the performance.”
Although some people had already left, a few remained to gawk. The older generation, aware of the truth, sighed in disbelief; the younger ones, ignorant of the background, widened their eyes in astonishment.
Ning Shu understood Ning Bai’s goal he wanted to use public opinion to pressure her into returning with him.
But he miscalculated. She would never let the opinions of others dictate her decisions.
Some whispers had already begun. Ning Shu ignored them, coldly addressing Ning Bai: “Are you going to let me go or not? Standing here like a wooden post is seriously annoying!”
Tears welled in Ning Bai’s eyes, his voice earnest. “What would it take for you to forgive your father?”
Ning Shu had completely lost patience. She concentrated her inner energy in her palm and struck him back, her gaze icy and sharp as a blade.
“Unless you and Zhao Xian drop dead right now, there will never be a day I forgive you!”
She spun on her heel and strode away, with Wu Yin and the four palace guardians trailing behind. No one could get close to her.
Ning Bai was supported by two disciples, wearing a facade of heartbreak and grief. Out of sight of others, his eyes glinted with ferocity and murderous intent.
If she couldn’t be used, she would be eliminated otherwise, she would become a disaster in the future.
The Tian Shu group headed to the largest restaurant in the capital. Although Li Zhou was rigid and principled, he was generous toward his disciples, providing them with the best food, clothing, and supplies. His generosity was renowned.
Along the way, Li Qing kept talking about Ning Shu, showing intense interest.
“Father, you don’t know she’s the one who saved me last time! I’ve been looking for her ever since. I didn’t expect to find her here, and I didn’t know she’s the Little Palace Master of Yan Yue Palace. She’s so impressive!”
“Impressive? Hah! She’s just a demon from the demonic sect. Keep your distance from her!” Li Zhou said, his tone laced with inexplicable hostility toward Yan Yue Palace.
Li Qing pouted, then turned to Li Xiao. “Sister, we’re the same age. Don’t you think Ning Shu makes you feel safe? During the match, she didn’t even attack me once. She held back the whole time it’s just so lovable!”
Li Xiao said nothing, recalling that night. If Ning Shu hadn’t sensed it in time, she might have already died. Ning Shu indeed gave a sense of security even when holding her…
Realizing her thoughts had wandered, Li Xiao shook her head to clear them, then said to Li Qing, “Stay away from her.”
Li Qing, thinking her sister was like their father and merely cautious because of Ning Shu’s identity, slumped. “You’re so boring. What’s so important about identity anyway?”
Anyway, Ning Shu was a friend she had decided on!
Perhaps thinking of someone constantly led to repeatedly running into them. After finishing lunch with Wu Yin and the four palace guardians and returning to the Wudang-prepared room, Ning Shu unexpectedly encountered Li Xiao again.
This time, Li Zhou wasn’t around just Li Xiao and Li Qing. The moment Li Qing saw her, she greeted excitedly.
“Ning Shu! We meet again!”
Ning Shu’s gaze remained fixed on Li Xiao. Seeing that she remained unmoved, Li Qing turned disappointedly and said, “Maybe we’ll meet often in the future. After all, the martial arts tournament lasts seven days.”
“Can I visit your room then?” Li Qing’s eyes sparkled.
Ning Shu found her an adorably curious little sister. Because Li Xiao cared for her, she agreed cheerfully.
“Of course! You’re always welcome.”
“Why not now? I’m free!”
Li Qing was about to walk toward Ning Shu when Li Xiao grabbed her. “Go back to sleep. If you don’t, you won’t grow taller.”
Li Qing looked pitiful. “Just one day? Can’t I skip?”
“No. If you don’t grow taller, I’ll be able to bully you forever.”
Hearing this, Li Qing’s enthusiasm deflated like a punctured balloon.
“Then I’ll visit next time. I don’t want to be bullied forever.”
Ning Shu found her cute and smiled. “It’s fine. There’ll be plenty of chances in the future.”
Li Xiao glanced at Ning Shu, her expression calm and untroubled, as if they were truly strangers.
Ning Shu watched them leave and suddenly felt dizzy, her vision blurring.
“Good thing it didn’t happen during the match.”
She stood for several minutes before heading to the Wudang room. At the doorway, Wu Yin handed her a black cloak, draping it carefully over her shoulders. Before leaving, he gave her a lingering look that seemed full of meaning.
Ning Shu was utterly baffled. Had he taken some strange medicine today? First sugar-coated hawthorns, now a cloak—what next? A sudden spark of understanding from a straight man?
Before she could make sense of it, her wrist was grabbed. Ning Shu turned to see Li Xiao staring at her without blinking, her gaze icy, as if angry.
Before Ning Shu could ask what was wrong, Li Xiao pulled her into the room. As the door closed, a sharp, tingling pain spread across her neck.
Ning Shu gasped, caught off guard, before a soft, warm weight sealed her lips.
