- Chapter 15 - Branding My Mark
Ning Shu was all too familiar with this feeling after all, not long ago, she had been pinned down and kissed by this person all night.
But why was it happening again, so suddenly?
Hadn’t she pretended not to know her before?
Thinking of Li Xiao’s earlier coldness, Ning Shu bit her hard, forcing her to release her hold.
Li Xiao’s lips were cut, bleeding slightly, and Ning Shu admired her handiwork, looking at her with a proud, almost arrogant expression.
Although she wanted to ask why Li Xiao claimed not to know her, she held her tongue, waiting for Li Xiao to speak first.
After all, Ning Shu had endured discomfort, gone through a night of intimacy to serve as her antidote, and yet Li Xiao had disappeared on her, leaving her to worry for four or five days. If that wasn’t a heartless move, what was?
Li Xiao licked the corner of her mouth, a faint, indifferent smile forming. Her voice was even colder than her gaze. “What, so quickly moved on to someone else?”
Ning Shu: “??”
Good grief, is this the legendary preemptive strike?
She wanted an explanation, but Li Xiao turned it on her instead—who wouldn’t be impressed by such a move?
Seeing Ning Shu stay silent, Li Xiao’s eyes darkened. She pulled her into her arms, tracing the bite marks on her neck. “The mark I left you hasn’t even faded, and you’re already flirting with someone else?”
The wound on Ning Shu’s neck, already scabbed, broke open again at Li Xiao’s touch, and her slender fingers lightly scraped over it, tingling and ticklish.
Ning Shu shrank her neck, about to explain, but Li Xiao suddenly pressed her head down and kissed her, harshly, without any gentleness. The tip of Ning Shu’s tongue hurt.
Help! Was this still the Li Xiao she knew? Or had she been possessed?
Ning Shu endured and silently scolded in her mind, too afraid to push her away. She lightly wrapped her arms around Li Xiao’s back, holding her as they had during their previous intimacy.
Li Xiao noticed Ning Shu’s response and softened, a trace of a smile appearing in her eyes.
Ning Shu slowly surrendered to her tenderness, responding in kind until a sudden chill reminded her to wake up.
She looked down at her clothes, now slipping over her chest, and blinked at Li Xiao. Lunch break was short, and now it had been nearly wasted. Surely she wouldn’t… at this moment?
“Not willing?” Li Xiao’s smile vanished, her gaze sharp.
Ning Shu shook her head. “I’m willing… just not now.”
Li Xiao smiled and asked, “Why not? Afraid someone will see?”
Ning Shu caught the teasing tone in her voice. Narrowing her eyes, she said, “You’re jealous, aren’t you?”
Earlier, when Wu Yin draped the cloak over her, Li Xiao had suddenly lunged and bitten her, making teasing comments about “moving on.” Only one explanation made sense she was jealous!
Excited by her discovery, Ning Shu saw Li Xiao turn her head. Her hand stayed at Ning Shu’s waist, but she refused to admit it.
“Nonsense. Impossible!”
Ning Shu’s heart melted at her stubbornness. Classic denial while acting so obviously their actions betrayed their words.
“Then why come find me? Bite me, kiss me are those things done to a ‘stranger’?”
Ning Shu still remembered her attempt to disassociate. She wasn’t particularly virtuous, but she had a good memory she would never forget this.
Li Xiao tightened her hold, glancing at the bite mark on Ning Shu’s neck. Her eyes darkened. “Deepen the mark. No one else can covet what’s mine.”
Ning Shu pouted. “When did I become yours? Besides, I’m a person, not a thing… emmm… fine, not yours anyway!”
Li Xiao’s expression remained serious, but her gaze softened. She leaned close, her voice husky and magnetic.
“What I say is mine, is mine.”
Ning Shu’s ears felt electrified, the sensation spreading through her entire body. Her knees weakened.
She nestled into Li Xiao’s embrace, struggling to maintain reason. “We really can’t… the afternoon matches are about to start…”
Li Xiao didn’t speak. She held her close, inhaling her scent, hands wandering, setting her heart ablaze.
Ning Shu melted completely, her hands gripping Li Xiao’s neck just to keep from falling.
“I said no… don’t… ah!”
A brief gasp escaped her lips, and she quickly buried her face in Li Xiao’s chest, embarrassed that such a soft, flirtatious sound had come from her.
Li Xiao laughed, her voice softer than before. “It’s okay. No one can hear us. Don’t restrain yourself.”
“No! Wu Yin’s next door he’ll hear!” Ning Shu mumbled, face still buried.
“He’s gone.” Li Xiao’s expression hardened at the mention of Wu Yin.
Ning Shu lifted her head in Li Xiao’s arms. “Really?”
Li Xiao didn’t answer. She pressed her lips firmly against Ning Shu’s rosy ones, savoring the sweetness she had missed last time under the effects of Hehuan Powder. This time, she wouldn’t miss a thing.
The afternoon matches began. The seat of the Yan Yue Palace Master remained empty.
Mo Shang frowned. “Why hasn’t the Little Palace Master arrived? Overslept, perhaps? I’ll go wake her.”
Wu Yin held him back, a mysterious smile tugging at his lips. “What’s the rush? If the Little Palace Master wants to sleep longer, let her. Someone will come challenge you anyway.”
Mo Shang thought that made sense. She wasn’t well, so a little extra rest would be good.
Wu Yin sipped tea from the table, watching the amateurs on the stage fight. His smile never faded.
At Tian Shu, Li Zhou was tense. Unable to find Li Xiao, his normally steady daughter, he feared enemies had abducted her.
Three months ago, she had disappeared for a while. She never explained where she went only that she was cultivating. Given her progress in martial arts, he hadn’t pressed her.
Now he realized she was gradually slipping out of his control. Anger rose in him as he ordered Li Qing: “Send more disciples to find your sister. She must be found before nightfall!”
Li Qing dared not argue and quietly left with a few disciples.
In the side room, it was a mess. Ning Shu’s cheeks were flushed, sweat beading on her forehead and neck.
“So tired… I can’t…” Her voice was hoarse, every word feeling like it took her all her strength.
Li Xiao held her close, whispering, “Can’t what?”
“Uh…” Ning Shu wanted to punch her, but had no strength. Already unwell, having been overexerted, she couldn’t even lift her hands.
“If you stay quiet, should I continue?” Li Xiao asked, kissing her forehead and beginning a new round of passion.
