- Chapter 16 - Getting Along
Before she completely collapsed from exhaustion, Ning Shu thought to herself: next time I see Li Xiao, I’d better take a detour… otherwise, I’ll end up dead at her hands.
After Li Xiao was satisfied, she noticed Ning Shu running a fever. She carefully carried her to the bed, wiping her down with a damp cloth and giving her some warm water to drink. Only when Ning Shu drifted into a deep sleep did she straighten her own clothes and prepare to go buy medicine.
Half-asleep, Ning Shu felt someone brushing her face. Reluctant to let her go, she reached out and grabbed Li Xiao’s hand as she tried to leave.
“Last time in the cave… why did you leave without saying anything?”
Li Xiao looked at her flushed, swollen-eyed face and paused for a moment before replying, “Wasn’t it you who left me there?”
Ning Shu furrowed her delicate brows and pouted. “No way! I was the one who cleaned up after you fell asleep!”
Li Xiao was momentarily stunned, then remembered the faint tenderness she had felt that day. It hadn’t been a dream it was real.
She had assumed it was a dream, so when she woke up to find the cave empty, she was disappointed and dragged her tired body back. On the way, she happened to meet her fellow disciples, who told her that her father urgently wanted her back. She had gone with them to Tian Shu.
That was one reason she had claimed not to know Ning Shu that morning.
The other reason was that she didn’t want her father to discover her relationship with Ning Shu. With his authoritarian ways and biases, he would have definitely caused trouble for Ning Shu.
Seeing Ning Shu still weak and feverish, Li Xiao crouched beside her and murmured, “How can I hide you away so no one finds you?”
Ning Shu wanted to reply, but her throat was dry and hoarse. She could only grip Li Xiao’s hand tightly.
To ensure Ning Shu slept peacefully, Li Xiao stayed by her side. It wasn’t until a knock at the door that she stirred, suddenly alert. “Who’s there?”
Wu Yin gently set the medicine bowl on the ground. “The Little Palace Master isn’t feeling well. I’ve prepared the medicine; please feed it to her, Miss Li.”
Li Xiao recognized Wu Yin’s voice and replied coldly, “Understood.”
Wu Yin raised an eyebrow and left with an unreadable expression.
Even after doing so much for her, they were still so ungrateful those of the righteous path were truly untrustworthy.
Once Wu Yin was gone, Li Xiao pushed the door open, carried the medicine inside, and lifted Ning Shu into her arms to feed her.
Ning Shu buried her face in her chest, murmuring indistinctly, “I don’t want medicine… It’s too bitter…”
Li Xiao smiled gently. “You won’t get better without it. If you stay sick, you’ll have to eat plain porridge and miss out on all the good food.”
For the past few days, Li Xiao knew that Ning Shu loved food, so she deliberately threatened her with that. As expected, Ning Shu lifted her face.
“Will it be bitter?”
Her wide, innocent eyes looked at Li Xiao, making it impossible to lie.
“A little. But if you drink it all at once, I’ll give you candy. That’ll make it taste sweet.”
Ning Shu believed her, pinched her nose, and drank it in one go, then looked at her with burning eyes.
Li Xiao had no candy ready, but under such a gaze, she felt guilty. She was about to explain when Ning Shu kissed her.
Ning Shu passed the medicine to her, then grinned mischievously. “I knew you were tricking me, so you have to suffer with me.”
Li Xiao swallowed the medicine, a flash of indulgence in her eyes. “If you give me medicine, what if you don’t get better?”
“Then stay sick. That way, I can be taken care of by you for two more days. Not bad, right?”
Ning Shu’s laughter shone in her eyes, clearly enjoying herself despite being ill. Seeing her rosy lips, Li Xiao couldn’t resist and kissed her.
Ning Shu leaned back immediately, hands covering her mouth. “What are you doing? I’m still sick… I might pass it on to you!”
Li Xiao nuzzled her neck softly. “Then we’ll be sick together. Someone will take care of us.”
Convinced, Ning Shu leaned in, pressing her lips to Li Xiao’s. The two became inseparable.

[Success is within reach—keep going!]
The cheerful notification rang in her mind. Ning Shu smiled wider, closing her eyes to enjoy Li Xiao’s warmth.
No matter how cold someone appeared on the outside, lips were always warm.
On the first day of the martial arts tournament, the Little Palace Master of Yan Yue Palace and the heir both disappeared. But no one suspected anything, since the greatest sect of the righteous path and the demonic sect were mortal enemies.
How could the future leaders of two opposing factions be together?
What they didn’t know was that the Little Palace Master was currently being pinned down and teased by Tian Shu’s heir, powerless to resist.
When Yan Yue Palace returned from dinner, Mo Shang thoughtfully brought Ning Shu some food, insisting on delivering it personally.
Wu Yin stroked his chin thoughtfully. “I suggest leaving the food at the door. Don’t say a word more.”
The girl from Tian Shu was fierce, seeming to view anyone approaching the Little Princess as a rival. If Mo Shang got too friendly, he might get the same treatment.
Mo Shang frowned. “Why?”
Wu Yin shrugged, patted him on the shoulder, and went to his own room. “Good luck.”
Mo Shang muttered to himself, unsettled by the day’s oddness.
He reached Ning Shu’s door and gently knocked. “Little Palace Master, are you alright? I brought you some food, shall I bring it in?”
Ning Shu, lounging in Li Xiao’s arms, playing with her hair, looked up. “You go, or should I?”
Li Xiao pinched her cheek. “What do you think?”
Ning Shu grinned mischievously as Li Xiao walked to the door. She was only in her undergarments, and of course, Li Xiao wouldn’t let her appear like that.
Mo Shang froze, holding out the food box to Li Xiao, still concerned for Ning Shu.
“How is the Little Palace Master feeling?”
Li Xiao’s expression was neutral. “She took her medicine at Shen hour. The fever’s gone.”
Mo Shang quickly replied, “That’s good.”
Seeing he had no other questions, Li Xiao closed the door. Mo Shang lingered a moment, then whispered to the sneaky Wu Yin, “You knew the Little Palace Master was with Li Xiao?”
Wu Yin shook his head, pretending ignorance, then slipped inside before Mo Shang could react.
Mo Shang felt slapped by reality. Clearly, Li Xiao didn’t care about her identity, and they were… getting along quite well?
Confused, the Yan Yue Palace guardian turned and left.
Li Xiao stayed with Ning Shu through dinner, leaving only after she fell asleep. Back in her own room, her father’s furious voice reached her ears.
“Rebellious girl! Do you know what you’re doing?! Kneel!”
