- The Female Lead Always Comes Around [Quick Transmigration]
- Chapter 19 - I’ve Given Up on Her
Li Xiao’s face was full of guilt as she looked at Ning Shu’s pale face, almost bringing her to tears. Before seeing her, she had a thousand things she wanted to say but now, standing in front of her, she couldn’t utter a single word.
The girl who always wore a gentle smile was lying here so weakly, and it was all because of her.
Li Xiao’s fingers curled, and a mist seemed to blur her vision.
The fragrance in the room gradually faded, replaced by damp moisture in the air. The trees in the courtyard rustled, and a thick fog rolled in.
“Hurting the Little Palace Master during the day, and now daring to come alone at night… do you think no one from Yan Yue Palace will stop you?”
Wu Yin appeared from the fog, moving to the doorway in the blink of an eye.
Li Xiao stole one last glance at Ning Shu before rising and stepping out, gently closing the room door behind her.
“Are you going to stop me?” Her eyes were sharp and cold, completely devoid of the warmth she had shown Ning Shu earlier.
Wu Yin snorted coldly, and the fog around him thickened, leaving Li Xiao only able to see the faint outline of his figure.
“I should kill you. That way, Ning Shu would never have to suffer on your account again.”
Yet he knew that if he truly killed Li Xiao, Ning Shu would never forgive him.
Wu Yin abruptly stopped, the murderous aura leaving his face. The fog dissipated rapidly, and soon the courtyard was as it had been.
“Get out! Don’t let me see you again, or I will kill you for sure!”
Li Xiao took one last look at Ning Shu through the moonlight streaming in the window, then pressed off her toes and disappeared into the night.
Wu Yin stared at Ning Shu’s door for a long while, long enough for his clothes to absorb the evening’s dampness, before turning back to his own quarters.
No one would disturb her tonight.
Ning Shu woke to the pain in her chest and immediately saw Rong Xue’s hand resting on her chest. Startled, she flinched backward, the movement pulling at the wound painfully.
“Don’t move. I’m changing your dressing. Don’t think anything filthyb I won’t do anything to someone who’s injured.”
Ning Shu felt a little embarrassed and obediently let Rong Xue change the dressing. Seeing Ning Shu like a little white rabbit, Rong Xue couldn’t help but gently stroke her hair.
“So good…”
Before Ning Shu could respond, Rong Xue withdrew her hand and began tidying up her medical kit. Though she appeared casual, she was meticulous and precise in her actions.
She understood that Ning Shu might resist her now, so she wouldn’t do anything to make her uncomfortable. She cared for her like an attentive older sister.
When the maid brought in the meal, Rong Xue naturally took it from her and dismissed the maid.
“Do you want me to feed you?”
Ning Shu tried, but had no strength, so she said, “Let Xiao Xiang help me.”
Of course, Rong Xue ignored this and set the food on the table, taking down a towel from the rack.
“I’ll clean your face first. Rinse your mouth, then eat.”
Ning Shu tried to refuse, but the towel was already pressed against her face. The water smelled fragrant, mixed with something unknown.
After rinsing, Rong Xue brought the porridge to Ning Shu’s lips. Ning Shu hesitated, then opened her mouth.
Strictly speaking, Rong Xue was her subordinate. Having a subordinate feed her was perfectly normal.
With that thought, Ning Shu finished a bowl of porridge and two meat buns. Rong Xue smiled, praising her appetite, confident she would recover quickly.
Then she brought a bowl of brown medicine, her face still gentle. Ning Shu frowned, tasting the bitterness. “Can’t you just apply it externally? I don’t want to drink it.”
“No, you must take it. External medicine can’t treat the root cause. Your heart meridian is damaged. If you don’t treat it properly, you’ll develop a heart ailment that lasts a lifetime.”
Frightened, Ning Shu reluctantly said, “Fine, I’ll drink it.”
Rong Xue helped her sit up, half-holding her as she fed her the medicine. With each sip, Ning Shu’s frown deepened until the furrow between her brows could trap a fly.
Rong Xue put the bowl down, took out a cloth bag, and placed a preserved fruit into Ning Shu’s mouth. “Eat this, it’ll make the bitterness go away.”
Ning Shu suddenly remembered that a few days ago, Li Xiao had promised her a candy but never gave it. Perhaps she had intended to deceive her all along but at the time, Ning Shu hadn’t thought that far, reveling instead in the warmth Li Xiao gave her.
She had tried so hard not to think about Li Xiao, but that person had already left a mark on her heart no matter how much she tried, she couldn’t erase it.
Her eyes stung as if something were about to fall, so she quickly closed them and pretended to sleep, not wanting anyone to see her vulnerability.
Rong Xue noticed the glimmer in her eyes, as clear as a mirror. She tidied up the dishes and left the room.
“Rest. I’ll check on you again at noon.”
Ning Shu didn’t move, still pretending to sleep. The pain from her wound reminded her again and again: Li Xiao didn’t love her.
Everyone around her had warned her: she and Li Xiao could never be together. But she had refused to believe it, and reality had slapped her hard.
This slap finally woke her completely.
“Chatter, what happens if I fail the hidden mission?”
[You will lose points and won’t be able to exchange them for skill points or other rewards.]
“Does it affect anything else? Like the next mission?”
[No. Hidden missions are optional. The target’s favor has already passed halfway. Completing the main mission allows you to start the next one anytime.]
Ning Shu breathed a sigh of relief.
She had decided to sever all ties with Li Xiao. Naturally, her favor score wouldn’t increase anymore. From now on, she would stay away from beautiful women they were all liars.
She pulled up her mission progress. With Ning Han and Long Tao dealt with, the main mission was 40% complete. Once she healed, she would go after Ning Bai and Zhao Xian and one more person couldn’t be spared: Zhao Gang, Zhao Xian’s brother, who had bullied her mother years ago.
A complete villain, abusing his influence in the martial world, rotten through and through.
With her targets clear, Ning Shu’s mind sharpened.
Her wounds wouldn’t heal quickly; she would only be able to move after seven days, by which time the martial arts tournament would be over.
Li Xiao, having publicly harmed the Yan Yue Palace heir, gained favor from the righteous sects. Li Zhou even promised to pass the leadership to her in front of everyone.
Ning Shu only heard this long after, her wounds already scabbed over, a scar stretching across her chest. Hearing the disciples’ whispers, she crushed the wooden sword hilt in her hand.
Rong Xue arrived with a fox fur cloak and smiled. “Oh? Who’s upset our Little Palace Master?”
Ning Shu took the cloak and replied calmly, “Nothing. The sword just didn’t feel right.”
“Just that? I thought something serious had happened. If the sword isn’t right, Mo Shang can make another for you. He has nothing better to do than obey our Little Palace Master, doesn’t he?”
Mo Shang, delivering the secret message, froze. Every day he worked tirelessly on Yan Yue Palace’s defenses, and they thought he was idle?
Ning Shu draped the cloak over her shoulders, sat on the stone bench, and asked Mo Shang, “What is it?”
He adjusted his expression, holding out the message. “Tian Shu Sect has been acting strangely. It seems they’re targeting Yan Yue Palace.”
“Tian Shu?” Ning Shu crumpled the letter, a cold smile curling on her lips. “I’m looking forward to seeing them come.”
