She knew she shouldn’t just lunge and punch Fu Nian, but looking into Fu Yun’s eyes, Ning Shu felt like she was about to combust.

“Is that so?” The words practically leapt out from between Fu Yun’s teeth.

Ning Shu waved her hands frantically, pointing to the hairpin in Fu Nian’s hand. “No! It’s not like that! She blocked me for no reason and even snatched the hairpin you gave me. I just wanted it back, and she said all kinds of nonsense. I swear to heaven, I never said any of those things!”

Fu Yun’s gaze darkened as he looked at Ning Shu, as if he were trying to discern the truth behind her words. Ning Shu’s heart raced, but her face remained calm and guiltless after all, she hadn’t done anything wrong and had no reason to feel guilty.

“Come here…” Fu Yun spoke, his gaze still as cold and sharp as before.

Ning Shu felt like she had just received a pardon. She stepped toward him two paces, then turned back to snatch the hairpin from Fu Nian’s hand.

“Give it here!”

On the way back, Fu Yun said nothing. Ning Shu, unable to bear the heavy silence, spoke softly, “Your Highness…”

“Have I ever said that no one may touch my things?” Fu Yun’s fingers tightened around Ning Shu’s neck, his expression stormy.
