The Female Lead Always Comes Around [Quick Transmigration] - Chapter 6
Li Xiao never expected Ning Shu to make such a bold request. Her expression immediately turned cold.
She had never liked being overly close to others. Even if someone had unintentionally saved her life, she couldn’t agree to something so outrageous.
“You’re the guest in the top Heaven room. Even if I wake the innkeeper to clean your room, it wouldn’t be wrong. But if there’s nothing else, I’ll be sleeping now.”
With that, she glanced at Ning Shu, her look icy enough to freeze her in place. Ning Shu quickly let go of her sleeve as Li Xiao stepped into her room and shut the door, keeping her out.
Ning Shu, however, wasn’t ready to give up. She curled up by Li Xiao’s door, hugging her knees, and whispered, “Sister, can you really leave me here alone? I’m wearing so little; I’ll catch a cold or get sick.”
She didn’t know why she was so fixated on Li Xiao. It wasn’t really about the mission she just wanted to be close to her, to share some intimacy.
She sighed quietly. Perhaps it was her awakening as an old pervert seeing a beautiful elder sister made her want to hug, cling, and be near. There was no cure for it.
Hearing her words, Li Xiao’s hands paused for a moment before she continued removing her clothes. She stripped off her outerwear, lying on the bed in just her undergarments, planning to fall asleep quickly. Sleep would keep her from getting involved in matters she shouldn’t.
Ning Shu waited, but the room remained silent. She couldn’t hide her disappointment. Yet she couldn’t blame Li Xiao anyone would ignore a stranger who followed them around persistently.
But she was so pretty… shouldn’t that earn some special treatment?
Clenching her fists in frustration, she let them go after two seconds. She couldn’t assume Li Xiao shared her… tastes. What if she didn’t even like women?
That thought chilled her, and her face clouded with gloom.
Forget kissing or hugging just getting even a hundred points of favor seemed impossible.
Sighing, Ning Shu pressed against the door, whispering, “Sister, my name is Ning Shu. You look familiar, so I wanted to be friends. I mean nothing else, so please don’t dislike me. If you ever need anything, just call. I’ll come immediately.”
This was the only way to save face.
After speaking, she suddenly sprang to her feet. Her legs were numb from crouching, and she stumbled onto her knees with a loud thud on the wooden corridor floor. The noise was impossible for Li Xiao to ignore.
“Talk about a stroke of bad luck, everything goes wrong at once,” Ning Shu complained, rubbing her sore knees. Suddenly, the door opened, and Li Xiao looked down at her from above.
Ning Shu froze, unsure why the door had opened.
“Come in. You can stay the night. Just this once…”
“Thank you, Sister! You’re so kind!”
Before Li Xiao could finish, Ning Shu jumped up, clinging to her arm. If she had a tail, it would be wagging wildly.
Li Xiao was startled by the sudden closeness, almost swinging a hand to push her away. After a moment, she regained control, pulling her arm back with a look of annoyance.
“Don’t touch me…”
“Oh…”
Ning Shu, perceptive enough, immediately restrained herself. Li Xiao had finally agreed she needed to behave or risk being thrown out.
Li Xiao’s room was similar to hers, except her window faced a quiet view of red-brick roofs rather than the bustling capital streets. Quiet suited her aloof personality.
Ning Shu, though mischievous, had never shared a room with another girl. Once inside, she didn’t know what to do with her hands or feet. To hide her awkwardness, she simply sat on Li Xiao’s bed.
“Your bed’s as big as mine. Two people should fit fine.”
Li Xiao pointed to the soft mat beside the bed. “You sleep there.”
Ning Shu’s smile faltered. She had hoped to share the bed with the beautiful elder sister, but she was too young and inexperienced.
“Then… I can’t sleep with you?”
“No. I’m Li Xiao. Stop calling me ‘sister’ all the time.”
Ning Shu thought: Of course, I know your name. ‘Sister’ is just fun. Clearly, you’re a straight-laced woman.
“Using names feels distant; calling you ‘sister’ feels close. I’m eighteen, born in November. You?”
“September.”
“See? You’re only two months older. Calling you ‘sister’ is fine, isn’t it?”
Seeing Ning Shu’s sincere expression, Li Xiao felt she couldn’t explain. Coldly, she said, “It’s late. Get some rest.”
Ning Shu understood, but wasn’t keen on the small mat. She’d have a cramped, uncomfortable sleep, not to mention no intimacy.
“Sister, can I…”
“No.”
“…Oh.”
Reluctantly, she got up, but her foot slipped, and she toppled forward right onto Li Xiao’s bed.
They froze, eyes locking. Ning Shu’s gaze fell on Li Xiao’s lips. She swallowed hard, tempted, yet wary.
Li Xiao, also surprised, stared at Ning Shu’s beautiful, delicate features. The person on top wasn’t heavy, clearly trying not to crush her.
Her name was Ning Shu. Judging by her attitude toward Ning Ming, there was some personal grudge mixed in; the Ning family connection wasn’t ordinary.
Emboldened by the tense moment, Ning Shu asked, “Can I sleep with you?”
Li Xiao frowned. Coldly: “Get off first.”
The position made conversation difficult.
Ning Shu’s determination surged. She hugged Li Xiao’s slim waist. “I won’t get up unless you agree. Please? I promise I won’t move.”
Li Xiao glanced at her hand, then raised her eyelids. “Not move? Hmm?”
Ning Shu quickly withdrew her hand, grinning sheepishly. “I’m worried I’m too heavy and might hurt you. Just checking if you’re okay.”
Her words were a pretext; she was bracing for a scolding. But Li Xiao spoke first:
“How will you sleep if you don’t get up?”
Ning Shu froze, then leaped up, beaming. “Come on, Sister, it’s late! Let’s rest. I’ll warm your bed.”
She lifted Li Xiao’s feet onto the bed, spread the blanket over both of them, and extinguished the candle with a gust of air.
Li Xiao: “…Is this your idea of a weak girl?”
She knew Ning Shu was pretending, but didn’t call her out, curious how long it would last.
Ning Shu slept neatly, body straight, hands on her stomach, eyes closed. But the soft breathing beside her reminded her that a stunning beauty lay there. How could she sleep?
Li Xiao also struggled. Since her mother’s death, she’d never shared a bed, facing fears alone. Now someone lay beside her, both body and mind under test. Sleep was elusive.
After a while, Ning Shu shifted, draping an arm over Li Xiao and wrapping a leg around her, letting out a soft whimper.
Li Xiao removed her hand. Seeing no reaction, she called her name lightly. Still no response, assuming she was asleep, she left her leg as it was.
Soon, Ning Shu’s hand returned, resting on her waist, cheek brushing her shoulder, an unconscious gesture.
Li Xiao sighed and finally relented.
In the darkness, Ning Shu nuzzled her with her nose, a triumphant smile curling her lips.
It wasn’t hopeless. To some extent, Li Xiao was accommodating her.
But she dared not go further. Though Li Xiao hadn’t kicked her off the bed, any excessive move could provoke a sword.
Earlier, Ning Shu had seen a fine sword beneath the pillow. To avoid being skewered, she spent the night hugging Li Xiao and woke refreshed the next morning.
Li Xiao, on the other hand, looked a little haggard possibly due to a sleepless night.
“Sister, didn’t you sleep well?”
Li Xiao glanced at her, then closed her eyes, not wanting to see that face.
Ning Shu quietly got dressed, slipping on Li Xiao’s coat casually, and stepped out.
Once the door closed, Li Xiao opened her eyes, noticing her coat was gone. She thought: slept poorly and stole my coat too, oh what kind of person is this?
Fifteen minutes later, Ning Shu returned, carrying several paper bags. She smiled, placing them on the table. “The inn’s breakfast isn’t great, so I bought youtiao and buns outside, hehe.”
Before she could finish, a knock came. Two servants stood outside.
“Miss Ning, these clothes are tailored for your size. The shopkeeper said You can exchange them if they don’t fit.”
“These are the porridge and side dishes you requested. Here’s the empty plate you asked for.”
Ning Shu glanced at Li Xiao, already seated and cleaned up, and let the servants bring in the food.
After they left, Ning Shu removed her coat. “Thanks for lending me your coat, Sister. I’ll wash it later. Eat while it’s hot,ot it tastes better fresh.”
Li Xiao took a bite of the porridge, accidentally choking when she turned toward Ning Shu.
Why did she have to change in front of me?!
