The Female Supporting Character Just Wants to Farm [Transmigration] - Chapter 12
“Cousin, don’t be mad at Chun’er. The Imperial Student really is a bit much.”
Gao Luoshen purposefully spoke in a syrupy sweet voice to get a reaction out of Qi Wei. Her eyes sparkled, clear and limpid like autumn water, and even held a hint of seductive charm. Gao Luoshen was a beautiful woman, and even though Qi Wei didn’t have feelings for her, seeing her beauty made his heart flutter. The words he was about to say vanished, replaced by an awkward smile.
Gao Chun’s hand holding the teacup trembled. She lowered her eyes to hide a flicker of mockery. After a moment, she looked up, her usual coldness returning, and said, “Fangze, go check on the Imperial Student. As for Young Master Qi’s kind gesture, we appreciate it, but please send the item back.”
As soon as Gao Chun said that, Gao Luoshen’s rebellious streak surfaced. She wasn’t going to let Gao Chun get her way. If Gao Chun didn’t want her to accept Qi Wei’s gift, she was going to do the opposite. Seeing Fangze start to move, as if to leave, Gao Luoshen said, “Wait,” and spoke slowly, “The Imperial Student may be a chicken snob, but my stomach isn’t. Fangze, take it to our small kitchen.”
Fangze looked at the calm Gao Chun, then at her own mistress, who was smiling widely. She sighed to herself, thinking, “This is complicated,” before bowing and leaving.
Gao Chun’s expression remained as still as stagnant water, as if Gao Luoshen’s words hadn’t affected her at all. On the other hand, a look of delight flashed in Qi Wei’s eyes when he saw Gao Luoshen accept the gift. He didn’t care what she did with the rooster; he just cared that she still had feelings for him. He felt a little smug and a little mocked. An arrogant and uneducated young lady like Gao Luoshen, even with her good family background, wouldn’t be taken seriously by most young masters.
“Cousin, I heard you have some ancient recipes?” Qi Wei got straight to the point.
Gao Luoshen wasn’t surprised by his question. Qi Wei’s sycophancy was clearly all about the Fengyue Pavilion. She looked at him steadily, seeing a mix of flattery and disdain on his face, and scoffed inwardly. None of these people are any good! She forced a fake smile and asked, “What about it?”
Qi Wei was overjoyed. He composed himself, suppressing his excitement, and asked, “I wonder if you could lend me a look?”
“Why should I?” Gao Luoshen stood up abruptly, crossed her arms, and looked down at the pleased Qi Wei. She mercilessly taunted him. “Just because you sent a rooster to the estate? What do you think the people of the Duke’s Estate are? Is the Duke’s Estate a place where you can get whatever you want? Qi Wei, Qi Wei, do you know how to write the words ‘wishful thinking’?”
Gao Luoshen’s words hit Qi Wei hard, and the smile on his face froze. He glared at her, but the word “you” was all that came out.
Gao Chun spoke slowly. “Second Sister has a point. It might not be a good thing for the Duke’s Estate and the Qi family to be too close. Besides people saying the Qi family is trying to climb the social ladder, this kind of collusion between officials and merchants can easily make the Emperor suspicious.” Her words made the situation much more serious. Qi Wei was intimidated by her words, his face flushed with shame. He couldn’t stay in the Duke’s Estate any longer. Before he left, he shot a resentful look at Gao Luoshen, as if Gao Chun had been led astray by her.
With Qi Wei gone, only Gao Luoshen and Gao Chun were left in the hall. Gao Luoshen stretched, then slumped back into the chair, yawning lazily.
Gao Chun glanced at her and said nonchalantly, “Qi Wei is not a good man.” She had known since childhood that Gao Luoshen was always clinging to Qi Wei and wanted to marry him. She didn’t believe that Gao Luoshen would give up on a man she had pursued for over a decade. She probably just felt angry and was deliberately trying to humiliate him. Who knows when she would go back to her old ways and follow him around again? Speaking of Qi Wei, she didn’t like him either. He didn’t like Gao Luoshen, but he would force himself to give her some small favors to get something out of her. He was a true merchant!
“I know,” Gao Luoshen replied languidly.
Her tone only made Gao Chun think she wasn’t giving up.
Gao Chun’s brows furrowed deeply. She put down her teacup and walked over to Gao Luoshen, looking down at her with a serious expression. “Merchants have always cared about profit. Mother has passed away, and the Duke’s Estate’s connection with the Qi family is not very strong. We don’t know which side the Qi family will align with in the future. They are one of the most prominent wealthy families in the capital. No matter what—”
Gao Luoshen immediately understood what Gao Chun was trying to say. She didn’t want to know the protagonist’s plans, so she cut her off before she could finish. She pretended to be surprised. “What do these things have to do with me? As for Qi Wei, don’t worry, I won’t fight you for him. I’m not interested in him. The Imperial Student judges others by their looks, and so do I.”
Gao Chun’s brows furrowed. She pretended not to understand the hidden meaning in Gao Luoshen’s words and continued, “After the Pearl Banquet, all the young ladies from the noble families will be called together to be considered as the Prince of Qin’s Consort. What are your thoughts?” If Gao Luoshen were still the same person she used to be, she wouldn’t have considered her at all. She never used to care about her life. But now, it was different. There was something about Gao Luoshen that intrigued her and made her want to figure her out.
“What thoughts could I have?” Gao Luoshen narrowed her eyes and said nonchalantly. “Even though I’m a legitimate daughter of the Duke’s Estate, I have no talent and no virtue. What is there to ask for?”
Gao Chun scoffed. She didn’t think for a second that Gao Luoshen had no plans. She continued, “The Duke’s Estate leans towards the Prince of Qin, and it’s highly likely that you’ll be chosen as his Consort.”
“No,” Gao Luoshen said, raising her eyelids and replying lazily. “The Duke’s Estate already supports the Prince of Qin, so why would they need to win us over again? It’s better to focus on those who are still undecided, like Su Mingjing or the Xie family’s daughter. Or, if all else fails, they can choose from the Wei family. Wouldn’t Consort Wei want her family to be by her son’s side? I heard the Wei family’s daughters live their lives just to be a Princess.”
Gao Chun glanced at Gao Luoshen and said calmly, “You know a lot.”
Gao Luoshen ignored her comment. Instead, she became playful. She stared at Gao Chun and said teasingly, “They say an older sister is like a mother. Why are you worrying so much about me? Are you desperate to get married? Should I ask the Su family to hurry up?” As soon as she said this, Gao Chun’s eyes turned cold. Gao Luoshen felt a chill down her spine and smiled awkwardly. “It seems like none of these people are any good. I think it’s better to just forget about it.”
The author has something to say:
Gao Luoshen: Actually, I’m the only good person in this world.
