- Chapter 2 - The Vexing Little King Fails at Socializing, and the Beautiful Sister
The story opens with Shen Ji, a small king from a past world now in a modern one, standing in a corner of a fancy party. She’s a “face-con” (someone obsessed with good looks) and loves gossip, so she’s drawn to a group of well-dressed women whispering about a famous person.
They’re talking about a woman, Yu Chiyin, who is rumored to be attending the party. They gossip about her giving a birthday celebration for her stepmother’s daughter, calling her “generous” but also suggesting it’s all just a publicity stunt.
One of the women cruelly suggests Yu Chiyin’s success comes from “sleeping her way to the top.”

Shen Ji, who is very hungry and eating a small cake, finds this gossip “appetizing.” She unconsciously moved over, listening intently. Human nature is to enjoy gossip, even if it comes from ancient people thousands of years ago.
She considers trying to get to know Yu Chiyin, thinking she could use the connection to get money. She is a king, after all, and if she has to lower herself a bit, she figures it’s worth it for enough money.
After finishing the small cake, Shen Ji still felt hungry, perhaps because this body had been truly hungry for a long time. Her pink tongue gently darted out, sweeping away the pastry crumbs from the corner of her mouth.
Her gaze darted with lingering interest, gazing at the cold dishes in the distance, wondering what the food inside might taste like.
Just then, a stunning woman in a red dress enters the room.
“So royal…” someone muttered absentmindedly.
Shen Ji is immediately captivated by her beauty and elegant, cool demeanor. She’s a total “face-con” and is determined to see the woman’s face. Her long, slightly curly brown hair and exposed skin were dazzlingly pale. The entire party goes silent as the woman in red walks in.
Shen Ji, like a hunter, slowly moves toward her, pretending to look at the food but really trying to get close. Her fingertips tracing the table as if she were carefully selecting the next dish to fill her stomach.
The woman’s elegance and grace make Shen Ji even more curious.
Just as Shen Ji is about to reach her, the woman in red turns and approaches her instead.
Five steps,
Four steps,
Three steps…
Shen Ji mentally counted down, only to notice the pair of delicate, lovely feet, right down to the toes, and take two steps closer. The woman chuckled softly and asks,
“Do you want this?” –offering her a plate of salmon.
“…Yes,”
Shen Ji, surprised and politely takes the salmon dish she offered and mumbled,
“Thank you”
The woman.. Yu Chiyin, finds Shen Ji endearing, like a “little gluttonous cat.”
Yu Chiyin notices Shen Ji’s lipstick is smudged and sees a “pure appreciation” for beauty in her eyes. (seemingly pure admiration)
Shen Ji, wanting to make her first social contact in this new world, introduces herself.
“My name is Chen Ji,”
Yu Chiyin is surprised that Shen Ji doesn’t recognize her, given her fame. Shen Ji confirms she doesn’t know her but adds,
“You don’t know me?”
“???”
Shen Ji was bewildered. Reassured, she replied confidently
“No.”
The socially awkward little king quickly added,
“It’s not too late to get to know her now.”
“That’s true,”
Before Yu Chiyin can introduce herself, a man in a white suit, Yan Li, walks up and interrupts.
“Xiaoyin, why didn’t you tell me you were here?” (Yu Chiyin=Xiaoyin)
He seems familiar with Yu Chiyin and asks why she didn’t tell him she was coming.
“no need.”
It was a clear gesture that she didn’t want to communicate, Yan Li persisted, asking her to go say hello to her step-family. Yu Chiyin ignores him and gives Shen Ji a glass of wine.
“Aren’t you thirsty?”
Shen Ji took the wine glass with her right hand and swallowed the salmon. She put down the empty plate in her left hand and took a sip of the wine. It tasted not bad, with a strong fruity flavor.
She notices Shen Ji’s smudged lipstick and takes a tube out of her purse.
“Want some more?”
“Hmm, hm?” As Yu Chiyin helps her, Shen Ji feels an increasing desire to get to know the woman better. She’s intrigued by the contrast between Yu Chiyin’s fiery red dress and her cool, distant scent. She wonders if this is “love at first sight” or “lust at first sight.”
She offers to touch up Shen Ji’s makeup. Shen Ji, a true “face-con,” is so taken by Yu Chiyin’s beauty and scent that she agrees.
Yu Chiyin takes Shen Ji by the wrist and says,
“Let’s go, I’ll take you to fix your makeup,”
–and leads her to the restroom.
Shen Ji didn’t resist being dragged away and is happy to get away from the annoying man. She reflects that women from this world also seem to dislike men.
Changyuan was a land of women, but that didn’t mean there were no men in Shen Ji’s original world. The surrounding countries were quite different from their Changyuan, almost all of them were male-dominated, and they occasionally interacted with diplomatic envoys from other countries.

In the restroom, Yu Chiyin helps Shen Ji clean and apply her lipstick. She pulled a small packet of wet wipes from her bag, pulled one out, and handed it to Shen Ji
“Wipe it first.”
Shen Ji acted like a puppet, following every instruction. She asks Shen Ji,
“Do you know how to apply it?”
and Shen Ji confidently says..
“Of course.” The little queen was a quick learner. Although this was her first experience, she showed no sign of fright. She took the initiative to touch her lips to the lipstick, blinked, and looked at Yu Chiyin as if it was a matter of course, urging,
“Apply it.” “
Yu Chiyin smiled, but didn’t refuse. She carefully applied the lipstick for her, then subconsciously pursed her lips to signal Shen Ji that they could proceed to the final step. Shen Ji did as she was told.
After the makeup is done, Shen Ji asks Yu Chiyin,
“You seem to really hate him?”
“Huh?”
Yu Chiyin washes her hands and responds,
“He’s a bit of a jerk.”
Shen Ji, having no prior assumptions about Yu Chiyin’s celebrity persona, completely agrees with her.
“I think so too”
Yu Chiyin tells Shen Ji the man’s name is Yan Li, but Shen Ji doesn’t know who that is. If the old Shen Ji had been standing here, perhaps he would have understood what the name Yan Li signified. Unfortunately, the person now standing here was the king of Changyuan, a nation from thousands of years ago.
“Oh!”
Shen Ji realizes their conversation is ending and feels frustrated. She wanted to know Yu Chiyin’s name, but the woman seems to have forgotten to introduce herself. Just as Shen Ji was about to remind him, Yu Chiyin spoke calmly. This time, instead of pulling her along, she turned and left the bathroom first.
Yu Chiyin simply says,
“Let’s go out.”
Shen Ji is a little disappointed and quietly grumbles,
“So vexing.”
