Chapter 21: “Feels Like Sleeping Together Isn’t So Bad…”
Lu Zhili slowly opened her eyes, still half-dazed. She instinctively stretched her body and let out a big yawn. In the next second, as her consciousness returned, she realized—this wasn’t her room.
The chandelier above her was a glittering crystal fixture, completely different from the seashell lamp in her room.
Where was she?
Lu Zhili turned her head and immediately spotted someone pouring water nearby. Her eyes lit up, and she called out hoarsely, “Yu Yao…”
Hearing her name, Yu Yao instantly turned back toward the bed. Those amber eyes were bright and clear as they looked at her. Yu Yao quickly stepped over and placed the glass of water on the bedside table.
“You’re awake. Are you still feeling unwell anywhere? I’ll call the doctor—he’s right outside.”
The resting suite was a small suite, and only the two of them were inside the room. The doctor was waiting outside in the reception area.
“Mmm… don’t,” Lu Zhili said softly, instinctively acting spoiled, not wanting Yu Yao to leave. The happy expression on her face immediately faded. She didn’t want to see the doctor—she just wanted to stay with Yu Yao.
Recalling what Fu Shuang had told her before leaving, Yu Yao decided to go along with Lu Zhili’s wishes and didn’t call the doctor in. Instead, she simply pulled out her phone and sent Fu Shuang a message letting her know Lu Zhili had woken up.
She sat by the bed and gently helped Lu Zhili sit up against the headboard, then handed her the warm glass of water.
“Here, drink a little to soothe your throat.”
This was the first time Lu Zhili had ever been taken care of like this by Yu Yao, and she was so delighted she nearly lost herself in the feeling. She behaved like a perfect angel—whatever Yu Yao told her to do, she did it obediently.
“You scared us all to death in the restroom,” Yu Yao said as she watched Lu Zhili take tiny sips of water, then began recounting everything that had happened earlier.
When Lu Zhili passed out, everyone was thrown into chaos. Yu Yao, being the oldest among them and the only one who had seen her faint before, quickly told Qin Yue to go notify Lu Zhili’s parents. Then, with Xie Yanqing leading the way and Chu Jiayan carrying Lu Zhili on his back, they rushed her straight to the resting room.
Qin Yue came back not only with Fu Shuang and her husband, but also with an entire small medical team in tow.
What followed was a frantic round of medical checkups.
Fu Shuang and her husband eventually had to leave because the banquet was starting, and the parts Lu Zhili was originally supposed to attend had to be canceled.
At Fu Shuang’s request, only Yu Yao was allowed to stay in the room with Lu Zhili, while the doctors and nurses waited in the outer room. Everyone else was asked to return to the banquet.
Yu Yao still didn’t understand why Fu Shuang trusted her so much. After all, she had only known Lu Zhili for about a month, and they hadn’t even met many times in person.
She couldn’t figure it out, but in the end she just let it go—after all, she truly wasn’t a bad person.
After coaxing Lu Zhili for a while, Yu Yao gradually persuaded her to let the doctor come in and do a checkup.
The doctor came in quietly and did a routine examination, but Lu Zhili still pouted unhappily—she hated doctors.
The fainting episode was an old issue, and the doctor didn’t find anything new. After reporting to Fu Shuang, he quietly left the room.
The resting suite was quiet once again, now with only the two of them. Yu Yao was exhausted. The emotional ups and downs of the night had left her with a pounding headache and a tightness in her chest.
She reached up and removed the clip holding her hair in place, took off the fur coat she was wearing, then nodded toward Lu Zhili.
“Can you scoot over a bit? I want to lie down for a bit.”
Lu Zhili’s face immediately flushed bright red. She didn’t know why her heart suddenly started racing, but she quickly and awkwardly shuffled inward. The cool bedsheets against her thigh helped clear her head a little.
“Wh-what’s wrong? Are you tired?”
Yu Yao lifted the blanket and slipped her legs under the covers. The residual warmth left by Lu Zhili clung to her calves, and she couldn’t help letting out a satisfied sigh.
So warm. So comfortable.
“Feels like sleeping together isn’t so bad,” Yu Yao suddenly muttered without thinking.
Not only was Lu Zhili stunned by this, Yu Yao herself was also caught off guard by her own words.
The room wasn’t cold, but a tired body wrapped in warmth always felt better.
For a long moment, neither of them spoke. They just sat under the covers, leaning against the headboard, quietly gazing at the decor in front of them.
After a while, Lu Zhili finally asked softly, “Then… can I sleep with you from now on?”
Yu Yao: “……”
