Chapter 22: She Thought—It Wasn’t The Wind That Moved, It Was Her Heart
In Lu Zhili’s understanding, good friends could sleep together. Good friends could do anything together.
Yu Yao let out a soft laugh.
“How would we sleep together? You have your own home, and I have mine.”
Lu Zhili actually began to seriously think about that. With a childlike mind, she didn’t get tangled in complicated thoughts—if she wanted something, she would earnestly look for a solution.
Yu Yao reached out and gently rubbed the top of her head with a smile.
“I was just saying that casually. Don’t take it to heart.”
She had probably been alone for too long—words like that had slipped out without thinking.
“Oh.” Lu Zhili agreed out loud, but her mind was still caught up in Yu Yao’s words, trying to work out a solution.
Yu Yao interrupted her thoughts again, “Do you want to go out and get some fresh air?” Her head was still a bit foggy, and she thought a walk outside might help her clear it.
Lu Zhili turned to glance out the window. The sky had already turned dark, dotted with stars—but when she thought of all those extravagantly dressed “monsters” downstairs, she had no desire to go out.
Noticing her hesitation, Yu Yao tilted her head slightly and said, “If you don’t want to stay in the hotel… would you like to go stargazing with me?”
Her voice was soft, barely lingering in the air—but Lu Zhili still caught it. Once she realized what Yu Yao was saying, all her gloom vanished instantly. Her eyes widened in disbelief as she stared at her.
“You don’t want to go?” Yu Yao asked again, lightly tugging on Lu Zhili’s arm—half playful, half intimate.
“I do! Let’s go right now!” Lu Zhili sat up immediately, flung the blanket aside, and jumped out of bed.
Yu Yao smiled at her.
“When I was putting your shawl on earlier, I saw some casual clothes in the closet—are those yours?”
Lu Zhili nodded,
“Mm, Aunt He prepared them. She was afraid I wouldn’t be comfortable in this dress.”
“Then let’s change out of these gowns and wear your casual clothes to see the stars, okay?”
Lu Zhili’s eyes widened even more and she nodded enthusiastically. Her face, which usually carried a bold and striking look, now appeared purely innocent in front of Yu Yao.
The two of them changed out of their elaborate dresses and into the casual outfits from the wardrobe. The clothes were loose-fitting sportswear that Lu Zhili liked. Every color except blue was there—Lu Zhili picked a black set, while Yu Yao chose light green.
As Yu Yao stood before her in the change of clothes, Lu Zhili didn’t know why, but her heart felt warm.
The princess was so beautiful—even in her clothes, she looked amazing.
Yu Yao, on the other hand, felt slightly uncomfortable in her new outfit. The scent of lime on the clothes was strong—as if Lu Zhili had wrapped her entire self around her.
Suppressing the strange feeling in her chest, she gestured, “Shall we go now?”
Lu Zhili nodded excitedly, then sneakily took Yu Yao’s hand and led her out of the resting suite like they were doing something forbidden.
Their departure didn’t catch anyone’s attention. The ballroom was still glittering with lights and guests, but under the starry night sky, the two of them slipped away into the darkness like fugitives.
It wasn’t until Lu Zhili got into Yu Yao’s car that she sheepishly took out her phone and sent a quick message to her mom to let her know.
The red off-road vehicle sped down the highway, the wind howling into the cabin—but neither of them said a word about closing the window. This quiet escape carried with it the long-missed taste of freedom.
Yu Yao wasn’t a native of Yanjing. Ever since she came here, every time she felt upset, she would head to Guangyi Mountain on the outskirts of the city.
Guangyi Mountain wasn’t very tall, and the roads leading up were wide and smoothly paved. The mountain’s most famous spot was a broad viewing platform, where you could see the sunrise, sunset, and the dazzling Yanjing city lights at night.
The platform had no vegetation blocking the view—looking down, you could see the sparkling city, and looking up, the entire starry sky stretched wide above you.
Over an hour later, Yu Yao successfully brought her to the destination—the Guangyi Mountain observation deck.
It was already very late, and aside from the surrounding street lamps, the platform was completely empty.
“Waaah—” Lu Zhili jumped out of the car the moment it stopped. Seeing the breathtaking view before her, she could only gasp over and over in amazement.
The mountain wind was strong, yet she didn’t feel cold at all. It was like her heart had been tossed into a sauna. The bl00d pumping through her limbs made her entire body feel burning hot.
“Yu Yao!” Lu Zhili turned around, her hair billowing in the wind behind her, and the smile on her face was wilder and more unrestrained than ever before.
“This place is so—beautiful—!”
Yu Yao looked at her, and it was as if she could see through time and space the proud goddess Lu Zhili once was, sitting high on her throne. But now, that goddess had fallen… and landed right into her eyes.
“But the wind is really strong up here, hahaha. Are you cold?” Lu Zhili still remembered to check on her.
“I’m not cold,” Yu Yao replied with a shake of her head.
She thought—It’s not the wind that moved…
It’s my heart.
