Chapter 5: Housekeeper He, President of the Lu Zhilin Fan Club
As the number-one fan of Lu Zhilin, Housekeeper He naturally showered the new profile picture with endless praise. Her sweet words nearly coaxed Lu Zhilin back into the womb from pure joy.
That evening, after Housekeeper He accompanied Yu Yao to the hospital for a check-up and returned to the villa, Lu Zhilin finally got her long-desired red smartphone.
Everything on the phone was already set up — even a new WeChat account had been created for her. Currently, she only had three friends: Fu Shuang, Lu Zhusheng, and Housekeeper He.
Although her IQ was currently at an eight-year-old’s level, Lu Zhilin still knew how to operate a phone. After the accident, her recovery involved not just physical rehab but also relearning everyday skills. Back then, she’d preferred a smartwatch because it was inconvenient to carry a big phone while wearing dresses.
But now, in order to add Yu Yao on WeChat, all inconvenience had been cast aside.
Lying in bed with bright, eager eyes, Lu Zhilin messaged Housekeeper He:
“He Yi, I want to add the Princess on WeChat! Little dog spinning with flowers.jpg”
If there’s one thing she excelled at, it was sending emojis — a natural talent.
Housekeeper He understood her eagerness to make friends and didn’t say much. She simply forwarded Yu Yao’s WeChat contact.
Yu Yao’s profile picture showed a silver crescent moon hanging in a pitch-black sky. Lu Zhilin stared at it, dazed for a moment, before swiping to view her own profile. It was an old-school lotus flower with a distinctly vintage auntie aesthetic — and one that looked oddly familiar.
That’s because Housekeeper He had helped her register this WeChat and had also chosen the exact same lotus picture for her own avatar.
Moments later, Lu Zhilin pulled out her fully charged smartwatch and made a call.
“Hello? Sis? Why are you calling me so late?” came Xie Yanqing’s lazy voice on the other end.
“Xiao Qing, hurry up and add me on WeChat! It’s urgent!” Lu Zhilin hung up right after.
Xie Yanqing: “…”
Did Missy forget the most important part?
She didn’t even say her WeChat ID! How was she supposed to add her?
Luckily, there are many ways to add someone. Lu Zhilin’s WeChat happened to be linked to the number she called from.
Not long after, Lu Zhilin received Xie Yanqing’s friend request and immediately approved it.
Don’t Call Me Preschool Teacher: “…”
Don’t Call Me Preschool Teacher: “Lu Zhilin?”
Don’t Call Me Preschool Teacher: “Sorry, added the wrong person.”
Lu Zhilin wasn’t that fast at typing yet, so she quickly sent a voice message to clear up the misunderstanding:
“Xiao Qing, you didn’t add the wrong person, it’s really me!”
Don’t Call Me Preschool Teacher: “Sis, what is up with your profile pic??? I thought only people Housekeeper He’s age used that kind of pic. :)”
“Ugh, I was just hoping you could help me find a better one! I don’t want to use the same one as He Yi!”
Don’t Call Me Preschool Teacher: “I knew it. Fine, what kind of picture do you want? I’ll help you find one.”
Lu Zhilin immediately screenshotted Yu Yao’s profile and sent it to Xie Yanqing.
“Xiao Qing, I want a profile pic similar to the Princess’s! If she’s the moon, then I want to be the sun!”
Looking at the picture Lu Zhilin sent, Xie Yanqing was surprised.
So she actually managed to get that girl’s WeChat? Or… did she sneak off to a bar again to stalk her?
Xie Yanqing sat bolt upright on the sofa. The cucumber slices on her face tumbled onto her clothes as she tapped on the video call button.
Moments later, Lu Zhilin’s breathtakingly beautiful face filled the screen. Even though Xie Yanqing had long grown used to her cousin’s looks, her breath still caught in her throat — it was that overwhelming.
“What’s wrong, Xiao Qing?”
“Sis, be honest — how did you get that girl’s WeChat? Did you sneak off to a bar again?”
Lu Zhilin quickly covered the speaker, shaking her head repeatedly and whispering, “Didn’t you say to keep it a secret? Why are you being so loud!”
“Oops, I forgot no one’s around on my end. Sorry sorry!”
“It’s okay.” Then, she cheerfully recounted everything that had happened that afternoon in detail — especially how Yu Yao caught not just her, but also Little Cake the cat, and how they even sat on the bed and chatted.
Xie Yanqing: “…”
I’m really dumb, truly 🙂
I only worried she got the contact. I forgot about her terrifying storytelling ability.
By the third retelling of how she discovered her “Princess” under the tree, Xie Yanqing finally interrupted her.
“Alright, alright, aside from the profile pic, what else do you want me to help with?”
Her smile had shifted into that of a seasoned customer service rep.
“Oh! I also want to change my WeChat name. Can’t you help me pick a nice one?”
Currently, her username was just [Li Li], chosen by Housekeeper He.
Supporting her chin with one hand, phone in the other, Xie Yanqing grinned slyly:
“Don’t worry, sis — I’ll give you the perfect name for your character!”
…
Twenty minutes later, Housekeeper He finished reporting Yu Yao’s medical situation to Mr. and Mrs. Lu and left the study. She pulled out her phone to check if Lu Zhilin had successfully added Yu Yao on WeChat — but oddly enough, she couldn’t find their chat.
Old folks like them didn’t like using friend notes on WeChat. They just recognized people by their eternal avatars and usernames.
“Huh? Why can’t I find Missy’s WeChat?” she mumbled, flipping through contacts, searching for that familiar lotus flower icon.
“He Yi! He Yi!” Lu Zhilin’s voice came down the hall as she ran barefoot, clutching her phone.
Startled, Housekeeper He exclaimed, “Aiyo, my little ancestor, there’s no carpet in the hallway! Why aren’t you even wearing shoes?”
Lu Zhilin didn’t like wearing socks or shoes — she liked to feel the world’s temperature with her bare feet. Whether hot or cold, that sensation reminded her she was alive, not lost in that foggy coma again.
“It’s fine, He Yi!” she grinned, tugging on Housekeeper He’s arm. Then she sweetly said, “Please tell the Prin— I mean, Yu Yao, that I added her! Ask her to accept it, okay?”
Xie Yanqing had warned her — don’t call Yu Yao “Princess” in front of others. It might be seen as rude. Since she respected Yu Yao, she should respect her name.
The nickname “Princess” could be used, but only after getting permission and only in private.
“Alright, alright.” Housekeeper He sent Yu Yao a message just as asked.
Then she asked, “Missy, which one’s your WeChat? I’ll screenshot it to show her.”
Lu Zhilin opened her profile and proudly handed over the phone, “This one! Xiao Qing helped me with the name and the avatar. Isn’t it a perfect match with Yu Yao’s?”
WeChat name: Die-Hard Fan of Princess YaoYao
Profile picture: A childlike drawing of the sun, complete with a goofy smiling face and six dramatic blush dots.
Housekeeper He: “…”
Dear Missy, even an old lady like me can tell that this name and avatar have about 10% compatibility with Miss Yu’s ultra-cool WeChat name “Y” and her calm moonlit avatar…
Still, Housekeeper He deeply trusted Miss Xie Yanqing. Maybe this was just the new generation’s aesthetic.
Yes, that must be it!
“It’s a very cute name and profile picture,” she said sincerely. “Miss Yanqing picked something perfect for you.”
Housekeeper He: “the terrifying number-one supporter of Lu Zhilin.”
Not content with just showing her name and profile, Lu Zhilin also opened her Moments to reveal her background image — an up-close selfie of herself, her fox-like eyes magnified several times, staring straight at the viewer.
This photo had been directed remotely by Xie Yanqing and professionally evaluated and approved by their photographer friend Qin Yue.
As Xie Yanqing had said:
“With looks like this, making friends becomes much easier. People naturally gravitate toward beautiful things.”
And of course, as the number-one fan of Lu Zhilin, Housekeeper He offered her standard glowing review — compliments so sweet they nearly regressed Missy back into a zygote.
