The Frail, Alluring O Always Wants Me to Mark Her (GL) - Chapter 6: 06.2
Zhu Lexing obtained a list of personnel from the system. Flipping through a few pages, she discovered that these people were actually a small clique, led by a man named Yan Xin, who was the most critical of Yan Mian.
The further Zhu Lexing read through Yan Xin’s resume, the more determined she became to have him fired.
Get them all out!
The car drove on, and Zhu Lexing kept her eyes on the book the whole time. It wasn’t until they were about to get out of the car that the driver dared to quietly remind her: “Miss, we’re here.”
Zhu Lexing casually responded, then suddenly said, “Can you contact the housekeeping service later and find a few new people?”
The driver looked bewildered: “Does the Zhu family still need people now?”
Zhu Lexing said, “Not now, but we will soon.”
A few minutes later, the driver understood what Zhu Lexing meant.
As soon as she entered the Zhu family home, Zhu Lexing began to be selectively critical. Several Betas were scolded into silence until one of them, unable to bear it, retorted. Zhu Lexing then looked at him with interest: “Yan Xin.”
Yan Xin, who had never been called by his name by Zhu Lexing, was somewhat intimidated, but he inwardly thought Zhu Lexing was just a crazy girl who couldn’t cause much trouble. He straightened his back and said, “Miss, I…”
“You’re the one who’s been cleaning Yan Mian’s room, right?”
Zhu Lexing took a sip of black tea and lazily said, “Before Dad went abroad, he gave Yan Mian a watch, but I haven’t seen her wear it for months.”
Yan Xin’s body stiffened.
Ostensibly, he cleaned Yan Mian’s room, but ever since he realized Zhu Lexing’s attitude towards Yan Mian, he hadn’t actually cleaned it. However, he had still been to Yan Mian’s room many times, not for cleaning, but to take valuable things.
Yan Mian had a docile personality; even if she discovered something was missing, she wouldn’t dare ask anyone to get justice for her.
That watch was taken by Yan Xin.
Zhu Lexing noticed Yan Xin’s reaction and sneered, “That thing is mine. Where is it? Find it and give it to me now.”
Yan Xin broke into a cold sweat: “This, I haven’t seen the watch.”
Zhu Lexing smiled faintly: “Haven’t seen it? Go to Yan Mian’s room and find it for me.”
Yan Xin naturally couldn’t find it.
The moment he got the watch, he sold it for money and bought new things.
But even if he couldn’t find it, he still had to pretend to go to Yan Mian’s room.
Because that was Zhu Lexing’s demand.
When he stood before Zhu Lexing again, Yan Xin unconsciously hunched his back: “Miss, I can’t find it. Maybe Miss Yan put it away…”
“Put it away, where could she put it?” Zhu Lexing propped her chin and looked at him. “The room is only so big. If she doesn’t wear it, she wouldn’t just throw the watch away herself, would she?”
Yan Xin said, “This, it’s not that there isn’t…”
Zhu Lexing didn’t take his bait, instead speaking to herself: “The item isn’t in Yan Mian’s room, nor on her person. Where could it have gone? Do you know?”
She looked at the “clique” that had just been standing beside Yan Xin. In a few sentences, the group had completely disintegrated, each afraid to approach Yan Xin. The man she asked flinched a few steps: “N-no, I don’t know.”
“What about you?” Zhu Lexing asked another.
The answer, naturally, was also “I don’t know.”
Hearing his “brothers,” who had just been so united, reply like this, Yan Xin broke out in a cold sweat: “Miss, I…”
Zhu Lexing asked the driver, “How much is that watch worth?”
The driver hadn’t recovered from her series of actions. Now he cautiously said, “Sir said he was afraid it would be too expensive and ostentatious, so it’s only worth 200,000 yuan.”
“200,000 yuan, huh.” Zhu Lexing smiled sweetly, “The watch isn’t on Yan Mian, nor is it in her room. No one but you in the Zhu family has entered her room. Do you know where this thing went now?”
In the almost deadly silence, Yan Xin found it difficult to swallow: “Miss, it’s not me…”
“Who can vouch for you?”
No one spoke.
Zhu Lexing said, “200,000 yuan, not a penny less.”
200,000 yuan was not a small sum for Yan Xin. Even if he had stolen the item, Zhu Lexing had no overt evidence.
How could she say that?!
Yan Xin’s eyes finally reddened in anger: “I told you it wasn’t—”
“If it wasn’t you, then what were you doing on the afternoon of the third?”
Zhu Lexing’s lips curved into a smile, but her eyes were utterly indifferent.
Yan Xin’s throat tightened, and he answered himself inwardly—
Stole that watch.
Watching Yan Xin’s psychological defenses crumble, Zhu Lexing slightly raised an eyebrow. Being able to deal with Yan Xin so easily was beyond her expectation.
She swung her bag, smiling genuinely: “The watch or 200,000 yuan, I want to see it within three days.”
When she reached the third floor, she looked down from the hallway, her voice leisurely: “Also, the rest of you, leave with him.”
Just as they had once disdained Yan Mian.
The group was packed up and sent away. The driver’s emotions were complex. He felt that Zhu Lexing’s sudden mention of the watch was, on one hand, to rectify the “family atmosphere,” and on the other hand, to subtly warn him.
Yan Mian’s relationship with her was already unusual.
He immediately conjured up a series of love-hate dramas. After contacting the housekeeping company, he remembered Yan Mian’s request from the morning. For the first time, he looked at Yan Mian seriously and then called Zhu Lin.
That day.
Yan Mian deliberately delayed her return to the Zhu family by an hour again, but the dishes were still warm.
The TV played in an attempt to cover something up, its sound echoing through the living room. In the empty space, someone asked enthusiastically, “Miss Yan, what would you like for dessert?”
Yan Mian stood in the entryway, looking up at Zhu Lexing’s room on the third floor.
The light was on; Zhu Lexing had returned.
During dinner, Yan Mian noticed several unfamiliar faces among the servants in the villa.
She didn’t interact much with the servants, but that didn’t mean she didn’t recognize these people. She also keenly noticed that those who had been replaced by newcomers were all the ones who had previously spoken disrespectfully to her.
Silently, Yan Mian understood that all of this was at Zhu Lexing’s instruction.
She couldn’t describe this sudden “kindness,” only feeling apprehension. Looking at the exquisite array of dishes, she completely lost her appetite.
Her phone vibrated at that moment. She looked down; it was Zhu Lin calling for a video chat.
[Yan Mian is about to speak with Zhu Lin. Host, please pay attention.]
The room light was on.
Zhu Lexing was dozing off at her desk. The system’s sudden notification instantly jolted her awake: [What did they talk about?]
[Currently, they are only discussing academic matters.]
But it might not stay that way.
Zhu Lexing wasn’t afraid of Yan Mian contacting Zhu Lin.
However, Zhu Lexing’s sudden change needed a “catalyst,” and Zhu Lin’s return was one of them.
She immediately pushed open the door and went downstairs.
Unexpectedly, in the living room, Yan Mian wasn’t expressing any grievances as imagined.
The girl didn’t even show the slightest hint of sadness, maintaining a gentle smile, her eyes curved, her gaze and eyebrows radiating a warm geniality that made people feel as if they were basking in spring breeze, spontaneously developing a sense of closeness.
With the sound amplified, Zhu Lin’s laughter was evident. Zhu Lexing paused her steps, silently watching the scene.
Until Yan Mian turned her face and saw Zhu Lexing. Her gaze suddenly shifted subtly. After a few seconds, she slowly got up, moved out of the camera’s range, and her voice became softer: “Uncle, Lexing is here.”
“Xingxing?” Zhu Lin immediately said, “Come quickly, it’s been a long time—”
The man on the screen had sharp eyebrows and bright eyes, strikingly similar to Zhu Lexing.
Zhu Lexing felt a moment of disorientation, then smiled: “Dad.”
She said it naturally, and Zhu Lin responded naturally. Yan Mian’s gaze trembled slightly, and she turned her face away.
“Oh, by the way, what was Mian Mian going to ask just now?” After greeting her, Zhu Lin didn’t forget Yan Mian and greeted her warmly.
Zhu Lexing then confirmed that the two had not yet discussed whether Zhu Lin would return.
Yan Mian said, “I just wanted to ask if you’re feeling well.”
Zhu Lin immediately laughed: “I’m perfectly fine. On the contrary, have you had a follow-up check-up recently? What did the doctor say? If there’s anything, just find your Uncle Li; he’ll arrange everything.”
Uncle Li was Zhu Lexing’s current driver, so he naturally chose what information to convey.
Yan Mian forced a smile: “I will. Then I’ll—”
At this point, her brow suddenly furrowed, and her hand instinctively moved towards her left chest. But it was only for a moment. She suppressed the movement, and her voice became much softer: “I’ll go back to my room to pre-study now.”
Zhu Lin couldn’t see her, so he naturally didn’t suspect anything. But Zhu Lexing was only a few meters away from her at that moment, taking in her every movement.
“You—”
She opened her mouth, wanting to ask if there was a problem with her heart, but Yan Mian thought she was trying to get closer and stepped back several paces. As their surprised gazes met, Yan Mian voluntarily left and returned to her room.
She was a sickly person. Even the original owner wouldn’t intentionally do anything to provoke her when she was having an episode. A dead bug, of course, was less appealing than a living, weak person who could be tormented day and night.
“Zhu Lexing” had no reasonable reason to care about Yan Mian.
Zhu Lexing could only say in a spoiled tone, “When are you coming back? I recently—”
She chatted about everyday trivialities, noticing out of the corner of her eye that Yan Mian’s footsteps briefly paused, clearly listening.
Zhu Lin’s answer surprised them both: “Filming will be wrapping up soon, and I’ll be coming back for a visit. What do you want, Xingxing? Ask Mian Mian again—”
Zhu Lexing let out a long sigh of relief. The next second, the door closed.
“I can have anything…”
Zhu Lin said, “I’ve recently prepared a gift for you and Mian Mian. It should be arranged in a few days.”
Thinking of the Zhu family’s garish decor, Zhu Lexing bravely said, “Actually, no gift is fine too.”
Zhu Lin’s easygoing nature was unexpected to Zhu Lexing. The man didn’t act like a composed director, but rather a comedian, ending nine out of ten sentences with a string of “hahahas,” like a human joke encyclopedia.
After the call ended, Zhu Lexing asked the system: [Is Yan Mian okay?]
System: [She has already taken medicine and is much better.]
Zhu Lexing stood in the living room, hesitated for a few seconds, then went to the kitchen to make a cup of milk for Yan Mian and placed it on the coffee table along with her phone.
As expected, Zhu Lexing, who had worried about Yan Mian for half the night, overslept again.
As she hurriedly got dressed and went downstairs, the milk was still on the coffee table, and her school ID lay where her phone had been.
