The Garbage Collector Who Stumbled Upon Mythical Weapons! - Chapter 16
“Alright! Starting today, the reborn ‘Great Eagle’ begins!”
Van looked around at his companions and spoke with enthusiasm.
Van, Garm, Sophia, and Amber were gathered in front of the bulletin board on the first floor of the Commercial Guild.
After Garm officially joined the team, they were discussing what their first job should be.
“How about this one?”
Sophia pointed at a request to collect flowers used for medicine.
“Hmm… The reward is low. On top of that, the place where they grow is far from here.”
Van, who had a negative opinion, looked at another request.
“How about this one? It’s a request to exterminate giant rats in the sewers. The reward is pretty high!”
“Oh, that sounds good. A high reward is the best. Let’s take this one!”
“Absolutely not!!”
“M-Me too…”
Van and Garm were eager, but Sophia and Amber firmly refused.
“Hmm… In that case…”
Garm turned his eyes to a request posted in the right corner of the bulletin board.
“Oh, this one… might be good.”
It was a request from a noble to search for a lost pet. The reward was high, and the mountain where the pet was lost was close to here.
“Yeah, not bad.”
“I agree! The missing pet is a ‘Jewel Rabbit,’ right? Those are so cute.”
The request was well received by the group, and Amber had no objections.
“Alright, let’s take this one!”
Garm pulled the request from the board and brought it to the guild reception desk.
“This is the request to search for the Jewel Rabbit. The party ‘Great Eagle’ is approved to take on this request. We wish you the best!”
They received the details of the request from the receptionist and left the guild.
“Hmm, the difficulty level is ‘D’… That’s quite high.”
As Garm read through the document, Van touched his chin in thought.
“The problem is probably ‘Abogi Mountain,’ where the Jewel Rabbit is said to have escaped. It’s not a small mountain.”
“Is it really that big?”
Garm asked, and Van nodded.
“It’s a pretty large area. Plus, we don’t even know if the rabbit is still in the mountain.”
Hearing Van’s reasonable point, Sophia and Amber drooped their shoulders. The best requests on the board were always taken first.
If this one was still available, there had to be a reason for it.
“This might be tougher than I thought. But why did they bring a pet to such a mountain in the first place?”
“Ah, that’s because…”
Garm, who was looking at the document, answered Sophia’s question.
“It says here that the noble who made the request has a villa there. It escaped from there.”
“How nice~ Living in luxury, while we might have ended up dealing with sewer rats instead. Ahh, if only my family were nobles too…”
As Sophia grumbled, Van spoke up.
“Either way, this job won’t be easy. Everyone, go home and prepare, then meet back here.”
“Oh!”
“Got it.”
“…Okay.”
◇◇◇
“Alright, it’s good to be home.”
As soon as Garm returned home, he lifted a floorboard and pulled something out. Inside were discarded swords and armor he had collected as trash.
“No one will notice them here.”
Garm picked up the ‘Helmet of the Wise General Frawgan.’
— With this, I can use ‘Search’ to find the rabbit.
And…
He dug further under the floor and took out the ‘Greaves of the Sky God Hermes.’
— I heard Jewel Rabbits are really fast, but with these, I won’t fall behind.
Garm put on the greaves, then wore long pants over them to hide them. He packed the helmet in his backpack and slung it over his back before leaving his house.
— Now I’m ready.
◇◇◇
“Oh, sorry, sorry. Did I keep you waiting?”
“You’re late, Garm!”
When Garm arrived at the meeting place, the other three were already there.
“You’re carrying a lot of stuff… What’s in that backpack?”
Van asked, looking curious.
“Ah, just some preparations. Don’t worry about it.”
“I see… Well, whatever. Now that everyone’s here, let’s head out.”
The journey to Abogi Mountain, where the Jewel Rabbit had escaped, took about two hours on foot. By the time they reached the base of the mountain, it was past noon.
“Alright, let’s split up and search in different directions. We probably won’t find it right away, but try to get a feel for the mountain’s terrain.”
With Van’s command, the group scattered.
◇◇◇
“Okay, this should be far enough.”
Garm took the helmet out of his backpack and put it on. Activating ‘Search,’ he could visualize the mountain’s shape in three dimensions.
He could see the trees, flowers, and even the moving animals as if they were right in front of him.
“Has my search range increased?”
A flood of information poured into Garm’s mind.
Previously, he could only scan about 100 to 200 meters, but now he could sense over 300 meters around him.
— Is this because my level went up?
Kicking off the ground, he dashed up the slope. His running speed, enhanced by the ‘Greaves of the Sky God Hermes,’ was beyond normal limits.
Even on a vast mountain, with this speed, finding a rabbit or two should be easy—so Garm thought.
But after running around for an hour, he hadn’t sensed a single rabbit.
“So it’s not in my search area?”
— Maybe it’s where the others are… But if I go there and run into them, it could be troublesome. Still, if we don’t find the rabbit, we won’t get paid…
As Garm debated with himself, he realized that, for a man who cared most about money, not searching wasn’t an option.
— Well, as long as I’m careful with ‘Search,’ it should be fine.
Garm kicked off the ground with force.
The wind rushed past him, dust swirled up, and he ran through the mountain at an incredible speed.
