The Garbage Collector Who Stumbled Upon Mythical Weapons! - Chapter 28
Clay desperately dodged the giant spider’s attacks. It moved at terrifying speed, swinging its pickaxe-like legs down repeatedly.
Clay thrust out his shield, barely managing to block. Each time the spider’s legs struck the shield, a shock ran through his arms, making him feel like they might break.
“Ugh!”
Still, Clay endured.
As a frontline warrior, he had honed his defensive skills. No matter how strong the enemy was, as long as he focused on defense, he wouldn’t be taken down easily.
That was his pride and confidence. But against this monster, he knew he wouldn’t last long. He grimaced at the thought.
Suddenly, the giant spider spat out webbing. He dodged at the last second and readied his shield again.
—That was close! But right before it spits, there’s a slight movement… If I don’t miss it, I can dodge!
Clay was determined to keep the spider occupied until Garm returned.
Because if Garm, free from poison, fought this spider, he believed they could win. The man he once refused to trust—he now trusted from the bottom of his heart.
He laughed bitterly at himself.
“Van… Now I understand how you feel.”
“Clay!”
Garm rushed over after helping Celesti.
“Are you okay?”
“Yeah, I’m fully healed!”
Clay saw Garm’s expression and let out a small smile. —That’s the face of someone who never even considers losing.
“Garm, stay behind me! I’ll get you to that thing!!”
Garm nodded at Clay’s words and gripped his axe tightly.
“Let’s go!!”
Clay charged at the giant spider. Garm stayed right behind him, carefully watching its movements.
—How will it react? Will it take the attack head-on? Or move to the sides?
If it attacked from the side, he would jump out and cut its legs immediately.
Garm thought that, but the spider didn’t move.
—It’s waiting for us to get close, then it’ll unleash poison mist and fire magic. It knows that’s the most effective move… Fine by me!
Garm crouched low and charged alongside Clay.
Just one more step—when they got close enough, the spider released a poisonous mist from its entire body. The purple gas spread instantly, covering the area in a thick fog.
Clay didn’t stop moving. He kept his shield up and charged straight through.
As he emerged from the mist, he saw countless magic circles forming. Sparks crackled, and flames began flickering within them.
“Get down!!”
Clay screamed and planted his shield into the ground, crouching behind it. The moment Garm also ducked—
The flames ignited the poison mist, causing a massive explosion that engulfed the cave.
The explosion roared, shaking the entire space.
Blinding light and deafening sound filled the cave.
◇◇◇
The giant spider was certain.
That last attack had killed its enemies for sure.
Flames and dust filled the area. Nothing moved. Knowing its own strength, the spider was sure there were no threats left.
It had struggled a little more than usual, but there was no problem.
Glancing at where the humans had been, it turned to retreat into the depths of the cave.
But then—it noticed something.
Among the flames and debris, a scorched metal shield stood upright, as if still enduring the fire. The shield… moved slightly.
“Now!! Go, Garm!!”
“Yeah!!”
A figure leaped out from behind the shield, raising an axe high above its head.
The spider had used up all its poison. It couldn’t cast magic right away.
Like a scene in slow motion, the axe swung down toward its head—but in reality, it was moving at terrifying speed.
There was no way to dodge. No way to block.
The spider could only watch as the axe sank deep into its body.
◇◇◇
“Uoooooooohhh!!”
Garm’s battle axe slashed past the spider’s head, biting into its torso.
The spider screeched in pain and thrashed wildly, trying to shake him off. But now that he was in range, Garm wouldn’t let go so easily.
He yanked the axe free, twisted his body in midair, and swung again.
One of the spider’s legs was severed, tumbling across the cave floor.
Garm landed and glared at his enemy.
The spider tried to back away, but having lost two legs, it could no longer move as swiftly as before.
Garm raised his axe and hurled it with all his strength.
Spinning rapidly, the axe flew toward the spider and buried itself in its abdomen.
“Giiiiiiiihhhhhh!!”
A shriek of agony filled the cave. The spider staggered backward, barely staying on its feet. But Garm didn’t stop attacking.
The spider shot out webbing to stop him—but Garm dodged it easily and closed the distance in an instant, grabbing onto one of its legs.
“Nuuoooooohhh!!”
Using his full strength, Garm lifted the spider off the ground and threw it over his shoulder.
Its head smashed into the ground, shaking the entire cave.
The spider tried to get up, but Garm grabbed its legs again and started swinging it. Using centrifugal force, he spun the massive creature around in circles.
Clay and Celesti watched in stunned silence.
—He’s lifting and swinging that monster!? Just how strong is he!?
As Clay stood in shock, Garm spun even faster.
“Go flying!!”
He let go and sent the spider hurtling through the air. It crashed to the ground, then slammed into the cave wall.
Boulders tumbled from above, striking its head. The spider wobbled, barely able to stand.
Garm picked up his fallen axe and charged.
Right in front of the spider, he leaped into the air, raising his axe high.
“This is the end!!”
The final strike came down like a lightning bolt, splitting the spider’s head in two.
