The Garbage Collector Who Stumbled Upon Mythical Weapons! - Chapter 33
“Ah, you’ve come! I’m Jacob Orgon, the head of this guild! I appreciate you responding to my sudden summons.”
“Uh, um…”
Van was a little taken aback by the guild master’s unexpected appearance. It seemed Sophia, who stood behind him, felt the same way. She whispered quietly to Clay.
“Hey, is that small guy really the guild master? He’s not what I imagined at all.”
“Yeah… I was expecting a big, burly old man.”
Clay answered in a low voice. Beside them, Garm frowned.
—What the hell is this? If we don’t hurry, all the good requests on the board will be taken! Does that old man even get that?
Although he was irritated by a summons that didn’t seem profitable—
“The reason I called you here is about the request you completed earlier, the ‘Subjugation of the Monsters in the Mine.’”
“Is there a problem?”
Van asked anxiously. Jacob shook his head vigorously and laughed.
“No, no. I wanted to express both my gratitude and my apologies.”
Not quite understanding, Van and the others exchanged glances.
“According to the guild’s assessment, that request was classified as C to B rank. But in reality, even B-rank adventurers like ‘Albatross’ and ‘Minazuki’ were seriously injured. This was our mistake. I truly apologize.”
“N-No, it’s not…”
Van was bewildered by the straightforward apology. A guild master was someone who held the highest authority over all the guilds in the Kingdom of Britend.
For such a person to bow his head to a mere adventurer was unheard of.
“But what’s even more surprising is you all.”
“Us?”
Jacob grinned as he looked at the confused Van.
“I heard that you, a C-rank team, managed to defeat monsters that even B-rank adventurers couldn’t handle. I didn’t realize you were that strong.”
“Uh… well… thank you…”
Van hesitated to respond. It was thanks to Garm that they had succeeded, but it didn’t seem right to mention that here.
As Van struggled for words, Jacob continued speaking.
“So, as part of my apology, I’d like to test your abilities.”
“How will you do that?”
Sophia, who had been silent until now, couldn’t help but ask. Jacob cleared his throat and looked seriously at the members of ‘Great Eagle.’
“I want you to complete three B-rank equivalent requests chosen by the guild. If you complete all of them, I will approve a one-rank promotion for every member of your party.”
“What?! Are you serious?!”
Van was shocked, and so were Garm and the others.
It normally took at least a year for a newly promoted C-rank adventurer like Van to reach B-rank.
Yet now, they were being offered a promotion just for completing three requests. It was an exceptional opportunity.
And it wasn’t just Van—his entire party would be promoted. As Van struggled to believe it, Jacob continued.
“If you truly have B-rank or higher abilities, it wouldn’t make sense for you to stay at C-rank. But as you know, guild rank isn’t just about strength.”
“Of course, I understand!”
Van answered with a serious expression. Jacob nodded and smirked.
“That’s why I want to confirm whether you’re trustworthy. ‘Great Eagle’ is still an inexperienced party. So, what do you say? Will you take the challenge?”
Van, Garm, and the others exchanged glances, but their answer was obvious.
“Of course, we will!!”
◇◇◇
On their way back from the guild, the members of ‘Great Eagle’ looked over the request documents given to them by Natasha.
《Emergency Request: Extermination of 200 Rakshasa Birds》
A massive outbreak of Rakshasa Birds has caused extensive damage to crops in Potrull Village.
Additionally, there have been cases of children being attacked, prompting the village chief to issue an emergency subjugation request.
Required party rank: B or higher. Please check with the reception desk for further details.
“Extermination of 200 Rakshasa Birds, huh… Are these Rakshasa Birds really that strong?”
Garm voiced his doubt, and Van answered.
“Individually, they’re not very strong. But they can fly and are extremely fast. Taking down 200 of them won’t be easy.”
“As expected of a B-rank level request… It won’t be simple.”
Garm sighed, and Van stopped walking, turning to face them.
“For now, let’s head to the village tomorrow and assess the situation.”
“Yeah! Potrull Village isn’t far from here. If we’re not well-prepared, we can always come back to restock.”
Sophia agreed, and they decided to head to the village.
As the sun began to set, the party split up to make individual preparations and headed home.
And the next day—their quest to reach B-rank began.
◇◇◇
Potrull Village, located in the northeast of the Kingdom of Britend, was a small agricultural village.
The surge in monster attacks began after a large-scale battle between the Demon Lord’s army and the Allied Forces nearby. The battlefield was left littered with decaying monster and human corpses, giving rise to the corpse-feeding creatures known as ‘Rakshasa Birds.’
These death-bringing birds soared through the sky, attacking people and ravaging farmlands. The villagers lacked the strength to fend them off, leading them to request aid from the guild.
Setting out early in the morning, ‘Great Eagle’ arrived at Potrull Village by midday.
“Please rest assured. We will eliminate all the monsters.”
“Oh! That is truly a relief. Thank you so much!”
After greeting the village chief, Van and the others were led to the fields where the Rakshasa Birds had been spotted.
“Whoa, there sure are a lot of them!”
Garm shielded his eyes with his hand as he surveyed the area. Dozens of Rakshasa Birds perched in trees and along the field edges, as if they owned the place.
