The Garbage Collector Who Stumbled Upon Mythical Weapons! - Chapter 35
Van and Clay were astonished by the speed.
“Uoooooohhh!!”
In an instant, Garm closed the distance to the Rakshasa birds that were flying unsteadily and cut them down without hesitation. Within seconds, he had taken down more than ten of them.
As long as they were within his sword’s reach, they were no match for Garm.
Clay also slashed at the birds with his sword, crushing the fallen ones underfoot. Van continued to take down the Rakshasa birds one after another.
The battle that had seemed so difficult just moments ago was now progressing smoothly.
—This is thanks to Amber’s wind magic.
Thinking that, Van turned his gaze to Amber. That was when he noticed a Rakshasa bird gliding down from above, clearly targeting her.
—Damn it! I won’t make it in time from here!!
“Amber! Run—!!”
Just as Van shouted, someone stepped in front of Amber.
“Sacred Light! Reveal the wicked!”
A flash of light burst from the tip of Sophia’s raised staff. The Rakshasa bird that had been attacking Amber let out a pained screech and vanished into the light.
It was a light-based spell used by monks. The power of the sacred light purified the Rakshasa bird, which was close to being undead, and erased it completely.
“I’ll protect Amber! Van, you guys take care of the rest of the birds!”
Hearing Sophia’s firm words, Van nodded and focused all his strength on exterminating the remaining Rakshasa birds.
Van and Clay pulled the birds down to the ground and finished them off one by one, while Garm cut through them at several times their pace.
By the time the sun had set, they had wiped out every Rakshasa bird in sight.
“That should take care of most of them.”
Van looked around with an exhausted expression. The ground was littered with the corpses of Rakshasa birds.
“There’s gotta be more than two hundred of them. Think we’ll get a bigger reward?”
Garm grumbled as he lay sprawled out on the ground, too tired to move. Clay also collapsed, sitting down in exhaustion.
“Well, either way, we’ve completed the request. Let’s go report to the village chief.”
When they returned to the village and informed them of the successful extermination, the village chief and the villagers expressed their deep gratitude. Being thanked by others didn’t feel bad at all.
Although they had taken on the request to raise their rank, seeing the villagers so happy made every member of the team feel that it had truly been worth it.
“Still, Amber really saved us this time!”
“Yeah, you were amazing!”
“N-No way…!”
On the way back to Rayford, Amber stammered, blushing bright red as Garm and Sophia praised her.
“You really did a great job. We’ll be counting on you next time too, Amber.”
“O-Okay…”
Van’s praise made Amber even more flustered, and she lowered her head in embarrassment.
As night fell, the group headed to the guild to report their success, then made their way to their usual tavern.
Thus, one of the missions for their promotion to B-rank, the “Rakshasa Bird Extermination,” was successfully completed.

The next morning—
The members of ‘Great Eagle,’ including Garm, gathered in the guild hall’s top floor, inside the Guild Master’s office.
The spacious office had luxurious red sofas for guests. As they sat, waiting with nervous anticipation, Guild Master Jacob finally entered after finishing his work.
“Sorry to keep you waiting!”
“It’s fine, don’t worry about it.”
Van and the others stood up and bowed as Jacob approached, accompanied by his secretary.
“Come on, sit down.”
The small-statured Jacob climbed onto the sofa with a grunt of effort, while his secretary, Natasha, stood behind him.
Van and the others took their seats again, facing Jacob.
“You all did a great job on this mission. I wasn’t expecting you to finish it in just one day… Truly outstanding work!”
“Thank you. We were lucky that things went smoothly.”
Van responded humbly, and Jacob gave him a small smile.
“Now, about your next job… The guild has this request for you. What do you think? Will you take it?”
Jacob placed a request form on the table.
“This is…”
Van stared at the document, and the others leaned in to read it as well.
《Support Mission for the Allied Army Medical Facility》
Request from the kingdom. The medical facility is experiencing a shortage of supplies, and we need assistance with transportation. Additionally, duties include tending to wounded soldiers and guarding the facility.
Duration: Two weeks.
Due to the dangerous location, only experienced parties are requested. Minimum requirement: B-rank or higher.
For details, please inquire at reception.
“A request from the kingdom, huh…”
“Is that a problem?”
Garm asked, noticing the wrinkle forming between Van’s brows.
“It’s not exactly a problem, but… The Allied Army’s base is currently in Port Gran, where they’re in a standoff with the Demon Lord’s army.”
“Port Gran, huh? That’s kinda far…”
Garm preferred jobs closer to home, but since this request came directly from the Guild Master, refusing wasn’t really an option.
“Hahaha, looks like a tough one, doesn’t it? If you don’t want to take it, you can back out. So, what’ll it be?”
Jacob smirked as Garm glared at him. —This old man… He knows there’s no way we’d refuse.
The request came with an exceptional reward—an automatic rank-up for all members. There was no way “Great Eagle” would turn it down. Van understood this too and quietly spoke.
“Understood. We’ll take it.”
“Oh, you will? Excellent! I’ll be counting on you!”
They received a folder with further details from Natasha and left the office. Jacob saw them off with a big smile, but the team felt a growing sense of unease.
“A medical facility for the Allied Army… Doesn’t that mean the Demon Lord’s army are nearby?”
Garm voiced his concerns, and Van nodded, looking uneasy.
“It’s possible, but the Allied Army is strong, and from what I’ve heard, the situation isn’t bad. We shouldn’t have too much to worry about… I think.”
With lingering doubts in their hearts, the five of them left the guild hall.
