The Garbage Collector Who Stumbled Upon Mythical Weapons! - Chapter 9
In the city of Rayford, there was a store owned by the Bonal Trading Company.
It was a mid-sized trading company that handled a wide range of businesses, including logistics, wholesale, and retail in the surrounding areas. Garm, Van, and the others had come to the mansion of Enbard Bonal, the man who had built the company from the ground up.
They were guided to the guest room and drank the tea that had been poured into the prepared teacups.
The room was furnished with luxurious decorations, including a comfortable sofa.
“The faces I see today seem different from the ones I met before.”
Hearing the butler’s words, Garm nearly spat out the tea he had been drinking.
The Bonal family’s butler, Brenas, fixed his sharp gaze, framed by silver-rimmed glasses, on Garm.
His gray hair was slicked back neatly, and his well-fitted tailcoat gave off an air of silent intimidation. It was clear that this butler was in charge of the current job.
If he didn’t explain things well, they might lose the job they had just secured. Garm started to panic.
Before Garm could say anything, Van spoke up.
“Yes, one of our companions who was supposed to come had to cancel at the last minute… so we asked the experienced Garm to help us.”
“Th-that’s right.”
Garm let out a forced laugh, but Brenas simply stared at him intently.
“I believe the contract required adventurers of D-rank or higher. Is his rank not an issue?”
“Uh, well, that is…”
Garm hesitated, but Van quickly stepped in to explain.
“Garm was originally a D-rank adventurer. He’s currently ranked F due to taking a break from work, but his skills are top-notch. Right, Garm?”
“Huh? Oh, yeah, that’s right. I worked as a D-rank adventurer for a long time, so my abilities are solid. You can even check with the guild if you’d like!”
Desperately, Garm and Van pleaded their case, while the girls behind them watched anxiously. No one wanted to lose this job.
Brenas touched his chin, closed his eyes, and seemed to think for a moment.
After a short pause, he spoke.
“We don’t have much time, so I’ll allow it. We leave tomorrow. Please handle the escort duties.”
“”Y-yes!“”
Garm clenched his fist discreetly and cheered in his mind. The other three also relaxed, relieved by the decision.
After discussing the job details, the four of them left the mansion.
Outside, it had already grown dark.
“Still, I didn’t know we were leaving tomorrow! You guys must have been desperate too!”
“Yeah, but that doesn’t mean we’ll be negotiating our pay again.”
“Damn it! I get it.”
As Garm sulked, Sophia spoke up.
“Well, we were in a tight spot too. If we lost this job, our wallets would have been in trouble this month.”
Amber, who was standing behind Sophia, hesitantly muttered, “I… I’m grateful.”
“It worked out for you too, old man. You didn’t end up jobless.”
“Who are you calling old man?! Call me Garm! Garm!!”
Garm and the three members of “Great Eagle” parted ways for the night, agreeing to meet in front of the Bonal Trading Company’s main building the next day.
“See you, Garm. Don’t be late!”
“Bye-bye! We’re counting on you, old man.”
“G-goodbye…”
With that, the three of them left. Garm sighed, but at the same time, he felt relieved that he had found work so soon after returning as an adventurer.
In this unstable profession, it wasn’t uncommon to go for days without a job.
Deciding he should get some rest to avoid being late, Garm hurried home.
The next day—
At the Bonal Trading Company’s main store, located in the center of the city. The large, aged brick building was bustling with people coming and going, with various goods being handled inside.
Three luxurious horse-drawn carriages, the kind used by nobles, were lined up at the entrance.
Beside them, Garm, Van, and the others had gathered. Goods were being loaded onto the carriages one after another, and employees of the Bonal Trading Company were boarding them.
“Preparations are complete. Please board that carriage over there.”
Brenas, who had walked up to the store entrance, pointed to a simpler carriage nearby.
Garm, who had hoped for a more luxurious ride, felt disappointed.
“Hey, Garm! Hurry up!”
“Yeah, yeah.”
Encouraged by Van, who had already climbed aboard, Garm reluctantly got into the carriage. In total, four carriages set off: three for cargo and the one carrying Garm and the others.
Inside the rattling carriage, besides Garm, Van, Sophia, and Amber, there was one other man who appeared to be in his mid-thirties.
“I feel much safer with all of you here.”
Sitting across from them, the man spoke with a friendly smile. He had a thin face, narrow eyes, and gray hair that reached his shoulders.
“Ah, I forgot to introduce myself. I’m Mattio from the Bonal Trading Company. It’s a pleasure to meet you.”
“Yeah, nice to meet you. I’m Van, and—”
“I’m Sophia.”
“I-I’m Amber.”
“Hmm? Oh, I’m Garm.”
After introductions, Van spoke up.
“Mattio, we haven’t been told what exactly we’re transporting. Can you tell us?”
Mattio smiled gently at Van.
“Oh, it’s nothing special. However, due to our client’s request, we must keep the details confidential.”
“Is the client a noble?”
“Well… something like that.”
Mattio’s vague answer made Garm feel uneasy.
However, from experience, he knew that sometimes it was best not to ask too many questions.
As Van frowned in dissatisfaction, Garm decided to relax for the rest of the trip. Sophia and Amber also chatted leisurely.
Surely, they would reach their destination without any trouble.
At this moment, Garm had no reason to doubt that.
