The Garbage Collector Who Stumbled Upon Mythical Weapons! - Final Chapter
Rayford’s Tavern, “Crystal”
After finishing their work, the members of “Great Eagle” gathered as usual.
“Seriously! While we were fighting for our lives, what were you doing?”
Sophia, furious, stood before Garm, who was slumped over the table, hanging his head.
“I have no excuse…”
“We defeated three demons while evacuating the people of Crave! How many did you take down!?”
“…Zero.”
After battling a particularly strong demon, Garm had searched the area, but in the end, he couldn’t find a single one to fight.
Sophia scolded him thoroughly, but he no longer had the energy to argue.
“That’s enough, Sophia.”
Van tried to calm her down, but her anger didn’t subside.
“But! Because we didn’t defeat ten demon, our promotion to B-rank was canceled!”
That morning, Garm and his party had gone to the top floor of the guild. When they informed Jacob, the guild master, of their failure, he said:
“Ah, what a shame. You were so close to ranking up…”
Jacob chuckled, but for Van and Garm, it was no laughing matter. When they asked if there would be another chance, Jacob’s secretary, Natasha, responded instead.
“I’m sorry, but since you failed to complete the request, the promotion is off the table.”
She delivered the news in a cold, matter-of-fact tone.
Garm and the others could only sigh. A deal was a deal, so there was nothing they could do. Afterward, the five of them went to the tavern, where they drowned their sorrows in drinks.
As they grumbled over their drinks—
“Hey, you guys look miserable! You’re bringing down the mood!”
Garm lifted his head to see Macaus and his party from ‘Albatross’ standing there.
“We took down thirteen demon in total. Our A-rank promotion is just around the corner. How many did you guys manage to get?”
Macaus asked with a smirk, making Garm grit his teeth in frustration.
“You’re the ones who defeated that giant spider we couldn’t handle. You must have racked up quite a count, right, Garm?”
“Shut the hell up! If you’ve got no business here, get lost!”
Garm snapped, jumping to his feet. Macaus shrugged, smirking.
“Whoa, scary, scary. Well, good luck. See ya!”
Laughing, Macaus and his party left, the bell on the door jingling as they went.
“Well, he’s right. No point in sulking over it. We’re just back where we started. We’ll climb up again, simple as that.”
Van’s words made Clay scratch his head and sigh.
“Yeah, true. Sooner or later, we’ll make it to the top. It’s not like we lost everything. Sitting around and moping doesn’t suit us!”
Sophia and Amber nodded in agreement.
“Yeah. Two B-rank requests and three demon ears—that’s still a decent payout. No need to feel too down about it.”
“I… I think I did my best, too.”
Sophia glanced at the seat next to her, where Garm was still slumped over. Without warning, she stood up and smacked his back—hard.
“Ouch!?”
Garm looked up in shock, only to find Sophia glaring down at him.
“How long are you gonna mope!? What’s done is done! Move forward, damn it!”
“W-Wait a second! Weren’t you the one bringing it up over and over!?”
“Shut up!”
Garm felt it was unfair, but he couldn’t argue. Everyone was right—he couldn’t stay down forever.
“Alright, alright! I’ll do it! Let’s go to the guild and find our next job…”
“Just so you know, you owe the party for this one!”
“Owe?”
“Obviously! You messed up, so you better make it up to us!”
Garm wasn’t sure what she’d demand, but he sighed and got up.
The five of them left the tavern and headed back to the guild.
They had no idea that forces all over the world were already moving with their own agendas.
The Kingdom of Britend was searching for a mysterious warrior.
The Allied Army was investigating rumors of someone who had defeated the Demon King.
The Demon Lord’s army sought to eliminate this unexpected new threat.
And at the center of it all—was one middle-aged adventurer.
“Hey, Garm, can I ask you something?”
“Huh? What is it, Amber? Ask away.”
“You said you wanted to be like Renous, the legendary adventurer… but what would you do after that?”
“After that? Hmm, well, once I have enough money, I’d probably retire and live a life of luxury.”
“Renous!? That sleazy womanizer!? You actually admire that scumbag? Well, I guess that suits you…”
“Who are you calling a scumbag!? Renous is every adventurer’s dream!”
Sophia scoffed, making Garm fume with anger.
“You’re the only one who looks up to a guy like that! Pick a better goal!”
“Grrr…!”
Watching their usual bickering, Clay and Van sighed.
“There they go again.”
“Yeah… same as always.”
They stepped out of the narrow alley into the bustling main street, lined with shops full of life.
In the distance, a familiar building stood tall.
“Oh! There’s the guild! Let’s grab a high-paying job!”
Wealth, women, fame—
The greedy old man’s adventure was only just beginning.
—The End.
