The Gaze of the Radio Girl (GL) - Extra 2
“Celebrating your total heartbreak!”
Hu Xin’s loud voice, even outside, was still earth-shattering and tear-jerking.
“Stop it, please stop…” Hu Lei, drunk, sobbed. “Why? Why invite me to the wedding? So cruel, just too cruel… I still had to prepare a gift… My money, my (bleep—)!”
Hu Xin: “That’s your own problem. Who told you to hold on all these years?”
“Yes, yes, my fault… all my fault…”
After apologizing, Hu Lei went silent, sprawling on the villa’s couch, swaying side to side.
The villa was rented for the wedding’s relatives and friends to stay in.
Hu Xin kicked Hu Lei, but he didn’t budge. She got up, picking up scattered bottles, cursing as she went: “Dead jerk, stinking jerk, only good for flirting, not cleaning up. Lucky you’re my brother, or I’d toss you in the trash…”
“Hey, you’re a bridesmaid. It’s the middle of the night, and you’re not sleeping? Careful you’ll swell up like a pig tomorrow.”
Hu Xin was pretty drunk too, turning to see the newcomer.
She wasn’t blonde anymore, sporting short pink hair, dressed in a sharp wolf-tail uniform, clearly just back from a bar.
What was her name? An-something?
…Blame the class leader, always calling her “that An girl.” Now what? Hu Xin couldn’t remember. She couldn’t be that rude right off the bat, could she?
After thinking, she gave up, waving: “Hey, hi. I’ve got tricks to de-swell fast.”
She stumbled and plopped onto the floor.
Embarrassing…
She played it off, staying down, opening another beer can, and kept drinking.
Ange, who’d spent the night at a bar but barely drank, opened a bottle too, sat beside Hu Xin, and asked: “You don’t like Lele too, do you?”
—Pfft!
Hu Xin sprayed her drink, cursing: “Her? I wouldn’t fall for her!”
“Then Xue Ran.”
“…Uh… that was ages ago. I’m over it.”
“You’re childhood friends?”
“Not really… met in middle school, and it’s been like that since… Hey, why am I telling you? You’re fishing for info?”
“You’re pretty loyal.”
“I said I’m over it. I even played matchmaker. If I still liked her, what’s my gain?”
“If you’re over it, why drink so much?”
“…I felt like it, okay? You, always bar-hopping since you got here. You’re the one who’s heartbroken.”
“Yeah,” Ange downed half her beer, sighing. “Just got dumped.”
“…You’re honest… Why’s everyone so hung up…”
Ange smiled, saying nothing.
They sat by the glass door, watching the distant sea, lost in long silence.
After a while, Ange heard Hu Xin’s soft, broken sobs.
Tough talker.
“Still hurts, huh? The more it hurts, the more you do.” Ange patted her head.
“…”
“If you don’t want it to hurt, there’s another way.”
“What way?”
“Meet new people, start a new romance.”
“…Only a player would say that.”
“Hahaha, am I that bad in your eyes? Honestly, dating’s like job hunting. As long as you haven’t signed on, you’ve got choices. Even if you’re hired, you can still jump ship. It’s not like there’s only one company.”
“Tch… player.”
Another stretch of silence.
When the beer was gone, Hu Xin went quiet.
Ange turned to see her passed out, stretched long against the couch, leaving a mess still uncleaned.
“Sigh…”
Manager An quietly got up, doing her old job.
The next morning, Hu Xin woke in her room.
A cup of black coffee sat on the table. Half-asleep, she chugged it, then saw a note underneath: Don’t swell up, Ange.
So, her name was Ange.
The wedding was small, with Xue Ran and Wu Lele inviting only their closest.
Each had a bouquet to toss, whoever caught it got it.
Wu Lele went first.
She prepped dramatically, while Hu Xin stood aside, arms crossed like an unbothered bystander.
Start a new romance?
Not yet, she wanted to stay quiet.
The bouquet didn’t fall.
Wu Lele leaned back several times but didn’t let go.
Her eyes scanned, landing on Hu Xin.
Hu Xin was still “staying quiet” when Wu Lele ran up, stuffing the bouquet into her hands: “Sports rep, my sincerest blessings!”
Hu Xin’s eyes widened slightly, her aching heart softening.
You win, but it’s an honorable defeat.
On the other side, Xue Ran tossed her bouquet.
The tightly tied ribbon somehow loosened, and flowers scattered like a goddess’s shower.
A few white roses landed in front of Ange, who caught them steadily.
A new story began.
