The Goddess Granted Me the [Hatching] Skill and Somehow I Became the Strongest Tamer, Commanding Mythical and Divine Beasts - 12
“Now, I will explain the process to become a national adventurer.”
Entering the Adventurers Guild and following the guide, I was led to the reception desk dedicated to national adventurers.
“Nice to meet you.”
To become a national adventurer, you must go through the procedures and meet certain conditions, so it’s crucial to listen carefully to this explanation.
“To take the national adventurer exam, first, you need to complete a ‘C-rank or higher monster subjugation request,’ followed by fulfilling the condition of collecting ‘C-rank or higher rare items.'”
“Does that include trolls?”
“Yes, it does. Trolls are fine. They have the highest appearance rate among monsters that can be hunted near the capital, so many applicants choose to defeat trolls.”
I breathed a sigh of relief for a moment.
Currently, trolls are the only C-rank monsters I’ve fought.
My experience of persuading the guards to let me join them can be put to good use immediately.
“After clearing those two, you will need to accept a ‘guarding request’ designated by us. For this, you will need recommendations from three upper-class citizens.”
“What do you mean by upper-class citizens?”
“People who pay a certain amount of taxes to the country, such as nobles or merchants. Each guild master also has unconditional authority.”
The receptionist promptly answered my question.
“Why is it necessary to have recommendations from upper-class citizens?”
“Generally, ordinary adventurers often lack common sense due to their proficiency in rough work. Therefore, we require recommendations to ensure the character of the candidates.”
I could infer the reason to some extent just from those words.
I recalled the times in the city when I was hassled by Zeke.
It seems that strong individuals often exploit weaker ones, such as bullying and extortion of newcomers. Thus, those who engage in such behaviors cannot qualify as national adventurers.
“The guards I designate are of noble status. If they are connected to thieves or cause harm, or encounter unexpectedly strong monsters and leave their guards behind and flee, it would be troublesome. Therefore, we rely on recommendations to guarantee their character.”
The receptionist explained about past incidents during tests.
“Isn’t that quite difficult?”
If you have the ability to defeat C-rank monsters and collect C-rank rare items, you might manage somehow.
However, making connections with upper-class citizens like nobles and merchants to get recommendations is not easy, even I understand that.
“That’s why it’s the qualification of a national adventurer. The three recommended individuals will be registered as guardians even after the applicant qualifies. If they commit a serious offense, they will face some form of penalty. So, unless there are exceptional circumstances, they won’t recommend someone easily.”
Without such penalties, it seems there could be corruption, like buying recommendations with money. It appears that those willing to do shady things have various schemes in mind.
“If I clear all that, can I become a national adventurer?”
When I asked for confirmation, the receptionist shook their head.
“Finally, there’s a final exam paired with a national adventurer. They’ll also investigate whether you have a criminal history or if any of your relatives are criminals.”
Even though it’s called ‘national,’ it seems they have no intention of letting members of criminal organizations infiltrate. Only those with solid backgrounds will be accepted, the receptionist replied.
“I heard it’s difficult, but it’s really strict, isn’t it?”
It’s not just about being strong in combat; you also need a good personality and a proper upbringing to qualify. It makes sense why the pass rate is low.
“But in return, you get a lot of privileges. As a national adventurer, you can use 80% of the country’s facilities for free, and you can enter ruins and mazes that are off-limits. It’s one of the most coveted professions in this country.”
“I didn’t know that.”
I decided to take it because it was a condition my father mentioned, but I never thought the qualification would garner such attention. Perhaps my father also aimed for it in the past.
“Well then, let’s start with the subjugation of C-rank monsters. Please take this magical tool.”
I was handed a card-shaped magical tool.
“This card automatically records monster subjugations. Please submit it once you have recorded the subjugation of a C-rank monster to proceed to the next exam.”
“Understood.”
“The deadline for each exam is three months. If you fail to achieve it by then, you’ll have to start over, so please be aware.”
With that, as if finishing the explanation, the receptionist stopped talking.
“Well then, let’s give it a try…”
As I thought about the path to passing the exam in my head, I left the Adventurers Guild.
