The Goddess Granted Me the [Hatching] Skill and Somehow I Became the Strongest Tamer, Commanding Mythical and Divine Beasts - 13
Away from the reception for national adventurers, I had something else to do before subjugating the C-rank monster.
Leaving the Adventurer’s Guild and crossing a couple of districts, I made my way to an area dedicated to agriculture and livestock.
“The Tamer Guild”
Among adventurers, there are many who have bonded with monsters they encountered during their journeys. These individuals are collectively known as Tamers.
Because this is a rare profession, the department handling related matters exists only in the capital city, and it is primarily set up for those who command monsters.
While the ability to turn monsters into familiars has been known for just under a century, it is relatively new. However, the effects of harnessing the power of creatures that are typically harmful are significant. Despite the small number of Tamers, they are given considerable privileges, including extensive grounds within the capital.
Having passed through the gates of the Tamer Guild,
“Excuse me, I would like to register my familiar.”
I intended to promptly register Purple.
“Alright, please present your adventurer card. What kind of monster have you tamed?”
In response to the staff member’s question, I opened my bag and reached inside.
After a moment of fumbling, it settled down quietly. Despite its unexpected weight, I pulled out Purple.
“Oh… This is rare. Is this a Magic Worm?”
The staff member’s eyes gleamed as they closely examined Purple on the table.
“I’ve heard that they’ve successfully raised Magic Worms in the capital, but they primarily use the natural silk from wild Magic Worms. Some clothing stores also sell fabric made from artificially hatched Magic Worm silk…”
“As you can see, Magic Worms simply absorb the magic from their food and weave it into their silk. They often fail to adapt to their environment and die, so there aren’t many registered as familiars.”
“I see…”
I understood their explanation.
While I knew that Magic Worms preferred herbs as their food, I didn’t know much beyond that, like how to instruct them on where to position themselves once they become familiars.
“Also, to make a monster into a familiar, you need to tame it. Those aspiring to be Tamers aim for useful monsters.”
Indeed, since you have to carry them on your shoulder, it doesn’t seem like there’s much benefit to taming a Magic Worm.
“By the way, what’s the largest monster that’s been tamed so far?”
Suddenly curious, I asked.
“Well, let’s see… it’s probably… the Red Dragon.”
“A Dragon!?”
When you say Dragon, you mean the strongest monster that flies through the sky and breathes fire.
It possesses strength that requires dozens of warriors or magicians working together just to repel it. How could anyone attempt something so reckless as taming one?
“That person happened to find a Dragon’s egg and was present at its hatching site. By imprinting on it and taking care of it from birth, they managed to make it recognize them as its parent.”
The enormity of using a Dragon apparently cannot be adequately described. It’s said to have resolved various incidents and problems both within and outside the country.
Therefore, even now, many people aspire to obtain a Dragon’s egg and become Dragon Tamers themselves.
“In fact, this Tamer Guild was founded by that person, and now their lineage has become nobility, supporting the country from within,” the staff member explained to me with such background.
While mixing in such anecdotes, the staff member handed me a sheet outlining the familiar registration regulations.
“Now, please take a look at these regulations.”
Purple poked its head out and traced the threads along the paper.
“Wow… It’s kinda cute, isn’t it?”
Seemingly amused by its actions, the staff member complimented Purple.
Considering its appearance, which could easily provoke Celia to obliterate it, I inwardly pondered. Indeed, considering its affectionate behavior and reliance, I found it cute, but ordinary people unaware of this might find it rather unsettling.
Do people who work in such places really have no aversion to monsters?
“If you don’t mind, may I touch it?”
“Is that a safety assessment?”
“No, I just feel like petting it.”
“Please go ahead.”
While I read through the regulations, the staff member played with Purple. Purple seemed to realize the staff member meant no harm, happily winding its thread around their fingers.
Having finished reading the regulations and organizing the contents, there were three main points Tamers must adhere to when registering familiars:
– Tamers must ensure their familiars do not pose a threat to others.
– Tamers must not use their familiars for criminal activities.
– Tamers must create and submit reports on their familiar’s characteristics.
The first two are obligations to maintain public safety; failure to comply if a familiar harms or is involved in criminal activities may lead to penalties. The last point is for understanding the ecology of monsters.
Familiars are mysterious creatures, and for future generations to coexist safely with monsters, understanding their ecology is crucial. What do they prefer as food, are they nocturnal, what should they be doing when taken along?
“Also, to ensure the accuracy of the reports, we may keep them here for verification.”
Apparently, this facility also provides places tailored to each monster’s environment for temporary keeping. When heading to places where monsters can’t accompany them, Tamers leave them here, and it seems they have a good track record.
“Since proper care is crucial then, please be detailed in what you notice.”
Ultimately, on that day, I ended up confined to this department until late at night, creating reports.
