Chapter 141: How Adventurers Spend Winter
“By the way, lately, I haven’t seen many adventurers around town, have I?”
Lucia changed the subject, though she stuttered a bit.
“I think it’s because adventurers don’t get many requests in winter.”
Melissa jumped in on that.
“In winter, it gets cold, so creatures aren’t as active. That means requests for subjugations and such drop off sharply.”
Lorraine said that while looking outside.
“At this time of year, regular adventurers dive into dungeons to gather materials, but Sir Klaus is a special person in all sorts of ways.”
Charlotte pointed out the difference from ordinary adventurers, taking into account Klaus’s current situation.
“But Klaus loves adventuring, and when he was a kid, he used to read stories with his eyes sparkling, right? It wouldn’t be strange if he dove into a dungeon at a chance like this.”
“Yes, I lent him a few books, but from the looks of it, he prefers tales of heroes conquering dungeons.”
Charlotte spent the most time with Klaus out of everyone there. The Boyle Count family had a big library, so she had lent him several volumes.
“Boys really love dungeons, don’t they? The guys at the academy are all like, ‘I’ll conquer a dungeon someday,’ making a huge fuss like idiots.”
“Melissa, that’s supposed to be endearing. Isn’t it cute, how they talk about their dreams?”
Lorraine followed up on Melissa’s harsh words. Conquering a dungeon was a feat every boy dreamed of at least once.
In fact, since the academy was full of nobles, that kind of unrealistic talk just came off as childish.
“Besides, it’s not just men who chase dreams. Treasures hidden behind all sorts of traps and guardians. Some even have tons of magic tools from ancient civilizations. In history, plenty of people conquered dungeons and founded countries.”
Conquering a dungeon was a huge deal that drew attention from all over the world.
“Klaus could probably conquer one pretty easily, don’t you think?”
No one in the room could deny it. They figured a dungeon might be a stretch, but at this point, he had tamed a divine dragon. Nothing he did would surprise them.
“By the way, what is Klaus doing right now?”
Melissa asked, curious about what the man they were talking about was up to at that moment.
“My brother was sleeping with Neige when I left to go out.”
The others had hoped for something exciting, but Celia just told them Klaus was relaxing at home.
“That’s unexpected. I thought Sir Klaus was more the diligent type.”
When Celia mentioned that Klaus was sleeping from midday on, Lorraine looked surprised.
Maybe because she dealt with him at work, she didn’t picture him wasting time lazily.
“In winter, creatures’ activity stops, so maybe Sir Klaus is doing the same?”
Charlotte imagined Klaus sleeping while she enjoyed the scent of her tea.
“But that’s what’s weird about it. It seems like he’s sneaking around doing something in the middle of the night…”
When Celia said that, the three of them pictured something and an awkward silence fell.
“Um, ahem. Klaus has his own stuff going on, you know.”
“Yes, men have all sorts of things to deal with.”
“It’s just what men do.”
Celia tilted her head at the three women whose faces had turned red.
“Huh? What, did you all figure out what Klaus is doing at night?”
Lucia leaned in with shining eyes and started pressing them.
“No, I have no idea at all.”
“You’re lying! Lorraine, you always nail it like that.”
Lucia got right up in Lorraine’s face, who was blushing, and called her out.
“With so little info, I can’t tell a thing.”
“Then why’s your face red, Melissa!”
Melissa raised her voice in return, and Lucia pointed out that her face felt hot.
“It could just be our misunderstanding, so I can’t go guessing.”
“Come on, it’ll just be our little secret!”
Lucia begged Charlotte, but everyone’s lips were sealed. They had no intention of spilling what Klaus had been up to.
“So, what exactly is my brother doing?”
Celia, who had no clue what the three had imagined just like Lucia, tilted her head.
What if Celia, now curious from their flustered reaction, burst into Klaus’s bedroom? Something awful might happen.
“You absolutely can’t open that door!”
Melissa, with panic on her face, warned Celia firmly.
“Uh… okay, well… I wouldn’t just barge into his room anyway.”
Celia replied with some confusion, but her question went unanswered. For a while after that, she kept wondering what her brother was really up to.
