The Goddess Granted Me the [Hatching] Skill and Somehow I Became the Strongest Tamer, Commanding Mythical and Divine Beasts - 25
The day after going to the northern forest, I had come to a swamp a few hours’ walk from the west gate.
The swamp was covered in thick grass in places, making it possible to walk only on those spots. However, even if you squinted, you couldn’t determine the depth of the swamp. Some areas were shallow enough for your feet to touch, while others were bottomless.
In such conditions, Purple and I carefully advanced to avoid missteps.
“Anyway, where is the target monster?”
Small flying monsters called Mini Flies had been buzzing around since earlier. Their wings were quite hard, causing only minor scratches if they charged, but they were small as their name suggested, making them hard to capture and a nuisance as they flew around.
They were known for swarming in marshes, and due to these monsters, adventurers often couldn’t return unscathed, so they were disliked among adventurers.
There was incense to repel Mini Flies, but it was relatively expensive, so I hadn’t used it.
‘…………♪’
—Shu! Shu! Shush! Shuba!—
Purple had been stretching out her threads and catching Mini Flies flying in the air, eating them. I was surprised as I thought she was herbivorous, but it seemed she was actually omnivorous. I would need to report this to the Tamer Guild.
Thus, the Mini Flies, likely perceiving Purple as a threat, started keeping their distance.
With one troublesome issue resolved, I walked around the swamp with relief, when suddenly—
‘Geeeeeeeeeeeroooooooo!’
Water splashed from the swamp, and a huge monster appeared.
Its purple body was covered in slimy mucus.
It was a C-rank monster called Poison Toad, the most troublesome opponent in this marsh.
“Alright! This is it!”
I had come here to subdue the Poison Toad.
‘Geeeeeeeeeeeroooooooo!’
As soon as it appeared, the Poison Toad arched its body and began to spew something.
“Poison fluid!?”
I quickly judged and dodged to the side.
The grass on the ground where I had dodged started steaming and withered.
“Indeed, it’s a troublesome opponent…”
The distance was still far. I extended my right hand and said,
“‘Phoenix Feather’”
‘Gerororororororororo!?’
Flames formed into feathers and struck the Poison Toad directly. It seemed to be more powerful than before. I drew my Sun Sword and closed the distance to deliver the finishing blow to the Poison Toad.
‘…Geroo’
In a final desperate attempt, the Poison Toad spewed a small amount of poison fluid.
“‘Purifying Flame’”
This time, I deployed the Purifying Flame right in front of me without dodging. The poison fluid evaporated instantly.
“So this is how it can be used…”
It seemed the Purifying Flame could burn away all impurities, making it effective against poison as well.
No longer fearing poison, I was able to confidently evade the Poison Toad’s attacks.
Since it was already weakened by the Phoenix Feather, it didn’t take long for me to subdue the Poison Toad.
“Even so, I was really helped by Purple.”
‘…………’
After defeating the Poison Toad and taking a breath, I spoke to Purple.
“Purple?”
A large amount of thread began to pour from her mouth, surrounding her body. It was different from the threads she had been producing before; it was highly transparent—almost like Crystal Herb…
“H-Hey… Purple. What’s wrong?”
Even as I called out, Purple continued to expel thread until she was completely covered.
“How… do you think?”
I hurried back to the royal capital and rushed to the Tamer Guild to ask the staff about Purple’s condition.
“Well, since Klaus is the first to tame a Magic Worm… it’s hard to say…”
Even though the thread was transparent, it was layered multiple times, making it hard to see inside where Purple was.
“In any case, may I take her in for now? We’ll look into past similar cases.”
Upon hearing the staff’s words,
“Let me help as well!”
“Eh? But it might take several days to investigate…”
“Thinking about what might have happened to Purple, I can’t rest even if I go home.”
It wasn’t a small matter. The thought that Purple might be suffering now made it impossible for me to relax.
“Purple must be happy to be tamed by Klaus.”
The staff said this with a reassuring smile.
“I don’t think that’s the case…”
Looking back, Purple had always helped me since we were in the rural town.
This was my way of repaying her kindness, so it wasn’t something to be said like that.
“Then let’s increase the number of people. I’ll inform the staff and have everyone investigate the cause.”
The Tamer Guild was filled with people who wished to coexist with monsters.
When the staff called out, many staff members gathered and began investigating the cause of what had happened to Purple.
