The Goddess Granted Me the [Hatching] Skill and Somehow I Became the Strongest Tamer, Commanding Mythical and Divine Beasts - 29
Several hours have passed since the party began.
At first, the participants were chatting around the central table, but now they are seated, enjoying conversations with close friends.
I saw Celia a few times. She was talking with girls dressed in luxurious dresses, likely her schoolmates.
The atmosphere in the party venue had relaxed, and some of the security personnel were starting to get distracted.
As for me, there were indeed many upper-class individuals in front of me, but as a security guard, I couldn’t just approach someone, so I was pondering how to get a recommendation.
(“It’s out of the question to initiate a conversation. I have to fulfill my duties as a guard and can’t take any strange actions that would trouble Celia.”)
I needed to find an opportunity to make my name known and arrange to meet formally later to have a thorough discussion.
As I was thinking about this…
“Excuse me, but might you be named Klaus?”
“Yes, that’s correct.”
I looked at the person who spoke to me. He was a man in his early forties, a little older than my father, smiling as if talking to an old friend.
“Ah, I thought it might be you when I saw you. I’m glad I took the courage to approach. I am Lloyd, a baron of this country.”
Saying that, he placed his right hand on his chest and gave a graceful bow.
Then, something moved at the edge of my vision. Several participants were walking quickly toward us.
“I am Dalton, running a trading company.”
“I am Manfrey.”
“I am…”
They began to introduce themselves all at once.
“W-wait a moment, please calm down!”
Not understanding what was happening, I raised my voice to control the situation.
“I’m honored to be addressed by such distinguished people, but I’m currently working as security…”
Not grasping the situation, I emphasized that I was on duty to keep my distance.
“That’s true. Then let’s get to the point quickly.”
On behalf of everyone, Baron Lloyd conveyed the matter.
“We would like to volunteer as Klaus’s recommenders.”
“As my… recommenders?”
I was taken aback by the unexpected offer. It was exactly what I had hoped for.
“I understand you are currently challenging the national adventurer qualification exam, and we wish to support you in that endeavor.”
“Well, that is true, but…”
I couldn’t decide whether to take their words at face value.
As I was contemplating…
“Let’s leave it at that.”
A voice made everyone freeze.
A man appeared, about the same age as my father, with a confident demeanor and a charismatic presence that overshadowed everyone else in the room.
“Ah, Marquis Marguerite.”
When the man called Marguerite approached me, the people around made way for him.
“This is a party for young people. It’s not a place for adults to discuss politics with a security guard.”
With his words, the people around me dispersed awkwardly.
Feeling relieved as the pressure from around me eased, I sighed.
“However, Klaus, you’ve been acting too conspicuously since you arrived in the capital.”
He lit a cigarette, inhaled, and exhaled. The way he did it looked quite stylish.
“You know about me?”
Seeing how the adults who appeared seemed to recognize me, I wanted to know the reason.
“You’re from a rural town, staying in the capital to become a national adventurer. You’ve tamed a Phoenix and a Rainbow Butterfly and possess two extremely rare items.”
The fact that he knew about the Rainbow Butterfly, which had just happened recently, surprised me.
“Don’t underestimate the upper-class network. Although we were slow with the Phoenix, everyone gathers useful information. The more conspicuous your actions, the more attention you attract.”
Even though I didn’t remember doing anything flashy, I couldn’t refute because I had indeed tamed Feni and Purple.
“So, you have business with me, right?”
Despite driving others away, he remained because he had a topic to discuss.
“You were trying to gather recommenders earlier, but you should avoid those people.”
Marguerite extinguished his cigarette in an ashtray and looked at me sharply.
“Why is that?”
I asked without averting my gaze.
“Because eventually, you will surpass their status. When that happens, you will have to become their backing.”
He explained that if the recommender’s and recommendee’s positions reversed, it would be ungrateful to refuse their future requests, making it difficult to decline their support without exceptional circumstances.
“I didn’t know that, but isn’t it an exaggeration to say I will surpass them?”
“Not at all. The monsters you tamed are that valuable.”
“Uh… okay.”
His assertive tone made me realize he saw something I didn’t.
It was undoubtedly a well-intended warning, but I couldn’t just accept it as it was.
“But I need to obtain the national adventurer qualification.”
I had a promise with my father. Without two more recommenders, I couldn’t accept a guard request.
“I’ll handle that. I’ll arrange for you to proceed with just Lebrant’s recommendation.”
He seemed aware that I had already received a recommendation from the Tamer Guild Master, Lebrant.
The meticulous forethought raised my alertness as I looked at the man in front of me.
“Who exactly are you?”
I needed to know who he was before continuing the conversation.
I looked at him intently, waiting for his answer…
“I am Marguerite. Marguerite de Lisch, head of the Lisch Count family and the chief of the National Adventurers Organization.”
