The Goddess Granted Me the [Hatching] Skill and Somehow I Became the Strongest Tamer, Commanding Mythical and Divine Beasts - 3
## Chapter 3: Useless Skill “Hatching”
After finishing breakfast, I returned to my room and started thinking alone. Was my conversation with the goddess Muse really just a dream?
“That’s right, she did mention something about ‘skills’…”
Just before I regained consciousness, the goddess Muse had said something about me acquiring a skill.
I focused my thoughts and checked my status.
“`
Klaus: Human
Gender: Male
Age: 16
Title: Blessed by the Goddess Muse
Strength: E
Endurance: E
Agility: E
Magic: G
Willpower: D
Luck: G
Condition: Healthy
Skill: ‘Hatching’
“`
This “status” magic allows me to see my condition just by thinking about it. Each attribute is ranked from S > A > B > C > D > E > F > G, with the average person who doesn’t make a living through combat typically ranking at F.
While “Magic,” “Willpower,” and “Luck” vary greatly among individuals, “Strength,” “Endurance,” and “Agility” can be improved through training. Those with high “Magic” usually aim to become mages, and those with high “Luck” often pursue careers as merchants.
I had given up on those paths from the start because both my “Magic” and “Luck” were ranked G.
“Hmm, there really is a skill.”
A skill is an ability that allows one to perform specific actions exceptionally well. Possessing a skill can make someone stand out in a particular field, thus affecting how they are treated in various domains.
“So, I really did meet the goddess Muse.”
The appearance of this previously non-existent skill confirmed that it wasn’t a dream. If that’s the case, then the story about monsters becoming active in the demon realm might also be true.
I needed to verify if this skill was genuine. As I prepared to head outside, I noticed Celia was nowhere to be seen.
“Hey, Mom. Where’s Celia?”
“She went out to work.”
“Didn’t she quit her job?”
Celia was about to enroll in a prestigious academy in the capital. She had the “Magic” skill, which is rare even among those who acquire skills, and if she honed her abilities, working in the castle wouldn’t be just a dream.
Because of this, I thought she had quit her part-time job. Why would she still be working now?
“Well, it’s fine. She wanted to go.”
My mother, with a bitter expression, gave a vague response.
“Anyway, I’m heading out for a bit.”
“Isn’t your health still not fully recovered? Why don’t you wait until Celia gets back?”
My mother looked worried. But that wouldn’t do. I needed to confirm this skill’s functionality by myself.
“I’ve been lying in bed for so long; I need to stretch my legs. I’ll be back after a short walk.”
With that, I left the house before my mother could stop me.
The place I headed to was a poultry farm outside of town. I thought the skill “Hatching” might have something to do with eggs. The farms, ranches, and fields are all outside the town, so it took quite a while to walk there.
After being bedridden for a whole week, my stamina seemed to have dropped, and I was a bit out of breath by the time I arrived.
Nonetheless, I managed to obtain a chicken egg and hid in the shadow of an old storage shed where people rarely go, eager to test my skill.
“…I’m nervous.”
According to Celia, when a skill appears, the method to use it comes naturally to mind. I held the egg in both hands and concentrated hard.
“What… is this?”
In the next moment, I felt something being drained from my body. The fatigue that hit me was incomparable to when I was walking earlier.
Barely maintaining consciousness, I continued using the skill…
“Oh! Just a little more?”
The egg cracked, and a beak emerged.
I stopped using the skill and watched the egg…
“Peep peep.”
After a while, a chick hatched.
“This skill is definitely real…”
The goddess Muse’s words were true, and I could indeed use the skill. But my body reached its limit, and my eyelids grew heavy.
“Hatching a single chick… like this… I can’t… use… it…”
I lost consciousness.
—
“Is Celia mad?”
Standing in front of the house, I sighed at the thought of my sister’s scolding. It was already night. After telling my mother I was just going for a short walk, returning this late would surely be a problem.
After using the skill, I lost consciousness, and when I woke up, the sun had already set. The chick I hatched was nowhere to be seen.
Dragging my tired body, I finally made it home.
Going out while still recovering and not returning on time must have worried Celia.
As I approached the door, I pressed my ear against it to listen in on my family.
“Celia, are you sure about this?”
“You were looking forward to studying in the capital, weren’t you?”
I heard my parents’ voices.
“Please, don’t make me say it again. I’ve decided to stay here.”
Hearing Celia’s words, I froze.
“You are the last memory of my late sister. It’s my duty to support you until you become an adult.”
“That’s right, Celia. You have a skill and you’re talented. Don’t throw your life away over a temporary whim.”
“Both of you, stop! We borrowed money to buy medicine, didn’t we? We’ll need more money for the entrance fee to the capital’s school. I don’t want to burden this family!”
As I stood there, frozen, the argument continued.
Apparently, they had borrowed money to buy medicine to treat me.
Celia decided to give up her education to help the family, fearing the debt from the entrance fee would worsen their situation.
My parents and Celia didn’t show any signs of this in front of me, not wanting me to worry. My mother, who did laundry and prepared meals every day. My father, who, despite being tired from work, still taught me swordsmanship.
My sister, who was always by my side, took care of me.
I knew how much Celia wanted to go to the capital.
“I have to do something…”
Working a regular job wouldn’t be enough. To change this situation, I decided to become an adventurer.
