After two days of traveling by carriage from the royal capital and another half-day on a ship from the port town, we arrived at an uninhabited island owned by the Boyle Count family.

This island, which is only a few kilometers wide, is surrounded by mountains, valleys, and forests. Aside from the dock and lodgings, there are no human-made structures.

During the journey, I asked Charlotte about it. She told me that a hundred years ago, when Rint earned great merit, this land was granted to him. He left a message saying, “I want monsters to live here as comfortably as possible,” and instructed that humans should not interfere.

Because of this, monsters on this island live in their natural state.

Only those who have received permission from Douglas are allowed to set foot on this island. For the students of the Tamer School, this place is revered as a holy land for tamers.

The next pickup would be in three days, so until then, we had to live here with only the teachers and students of the Tamer School.

As we lined up, a middle-aged man came out of the lodgings.

I remembered seeing him before. He was Negrei, an executive of the Tamer Guild.

I recalled that when I had just registered Feni as my familiar, he pressured me to hand over phoenix feathers for free. That left a bad impression on me.

Negrei stood on the stage and glanced in my direction. When our eyes met for a moment, he glared at me.

“Tamer candidates, I am Negrei, the supervisor of this Tamer Camp.”

Negrei began his greeting in front of everyone.

“This island is a sacred place where Rint de Boyle, the founder of the Tamer Guild, discovered a red dragon’s egg. Blessed with nature, it is home to a diverse range of monsters. Surely, each of you will encounter a monster that could become your lifelong partner.”

I was surprised to hear about Rint. Knowing that Scarlet was born on this island made me emotional.

After his speech, Negrei stepped down from the stage. Hearing that he was in charge of this event gave me a bad feeling.

He was still looking at Charlotte. Although her expression seemed normal, I felt she was slightly tense.

“Now, I will explain the rules for staying on this island.”

A supervising teacher stepped onto the stage and began explaining the rules we had to follow while staying here.

“First, this island is the private property of the Boyle Count family. There are restricted areas that you cannot enter without permission from the family, so make sure to check the map carefully.”

“On this island, you must move in groups. This is because the island is dangerous, and group movement makes it easier to handle emergencies.”

Even though we tamers are companions to monsters, not all of them are friendly.

Some monsters are strong and may attack people. To be able to deal with such threats, group movement was encouraged.

“As for meals, a minimum amount will be provided, but you will mostly have to fend for yourselves. This is also a learning experience to test whether you can function properly outdoors as tamers, so use your familiars to secure food.”

Even for adventurers working for the state, being able to gather food in the wild is essential. When it comes to this, I have more experience than most.

“The goal of this Tamer Camp is to deepen your bond with monsters and form a new familiar contract. By the final day, aim to form a bond with at least one monster.”

According to Charlotte, half of the tamers who visit this island succeed in forming a contract with a new monster and take them home.

Considering that the founder tamed Scarlet here, I feel like this island holds some kind of secret.

After the teacher finished the explanation, the other students, except for Charlotte, started splitting into groups.
