The Goddess Granted Me the [Hatching] Skill and Somehow I Became the Strongest Tamer, Commanding Mythical and Divine Beasts - 4
“So, this is… the Adventurer’s Guild…”
I nervously pass through the door of the Adventurer’s Guild. After all, adventurers are people who specialize in handling dangerous tasks.
They undertake tasks like defeating monsters and collecting rare materials, things ordinary people can’t do, in exchange for high rewards. To pay off the debts of my impoverished family and send Celia to study in the royal capital, this was the only option left.
As I pass through the door, several people glance my way. Their sharp gazes and presence are different from ordinary townsfolk.
Feeling nervous under their scrutiny, I approach the reception desk.
“Excuse me, I’d like to register as an adventurer.”
“Yes… you, sir?”
“Yes, that’s right.”
The receptionist looks at me over.
“Your equipment doesn’t seem to fit you properly.”
The sword and armor I’m wearing once belonged to my father when he was an adventurer. I had dug them out of our barn, but my father must have been quite large back then, so they’re a bit loose on me.
“These are borrowed from my father…”
As I try to explain,
“Why is a rookie who can’t even get proper equipment trying to register as an adventurer?”
A voice calls out from behind me.
“Zeke, please don’t bully the newcomers.”
“Hey, I’m just telling the truth.”
Zeke, a man in his twenties wearing high-quality sword and armor, clearly a veteran adventurer, starts to hassle me, leaving me unsure of what to do.
“If you have no other business, please step aside. I need to give an explanation now.”
The receptionist, looking annoyed, warns Zeke.
“Yeah, yeah, we’re heading out on a job.”
With that, Zeke waves his hand dismissively and leaves with his companions, sneering at me.
“Now, please fill out this form.”
She hands me the necessary paperwork for adventurer registration. I fill in my name, assigned position, and skills.
The assigned position is important when looking for party members to avoid overlapping roles.
As for skills, I have nothing noteworthy to write. If I had high magic power and could use spells, I would note that, or if I were skilled with a sword and had specific abilities, I would mention them. But I have none of those.
I do have a skill called ‘Hatching,’ but writing that down now would only invite strange looks. After all, it’s a somewhat impractical ability that only forces eggs, which would hatch naturally, to hatch immediately.
“I’m done.”
I fill out the form swiftly and hand it back to the receptionist.
“Klaus… your assigned position is vanguard, and since you wield a sword, are you a swordsman?”
“Yes, that’s correct.”
I’ve been learning swordsmanship from my father since childhood, and I confirmed my strength, endurance, and agility stats are at E level.
Given that the average for ordinary people is F, if I’m to work as an adventurer, vanguard is my only option.
“We currently have a surplus of vanguards… I can’t guarantee you’ll find a party immediately.”
“I see. But I can still take on jobs right away, right?”
I’ve heard that there are many who make a living as vanguards because magic users are rare.
“Yes, there are solo requests, but they’re limited to things like goblin hunting and herb gathering…”
“That’s fine with me!”
Right now, I just need money. I can’t afford to wait around for a party to form.
“Understood. Let me explain then…”
As I prompt her, the receptionist begins explaining about the Adventurer’s Guild.
There are eight ranks in total, with S being the highest and G the lowest. These ranks are unified with the “Stats” magic, where the characters displayed in the stats determine one’s suitability as an adventurer.
According to this assessment, it seems I’m currently treated as an adventurer equivalent to E rank.
After finishing the explanation,
“Do you have any questions?”
“Are there limits to these permanent requests?”
“No, goblins cause damage to farms and villages if not culled, and herbs are used in potion making, so there’s no limit to their purchase.”
The rewards for both hunting and gathering quests are equivalent to what I would earn in a normal day’s work. If I can handle them in large quantities, could I expect substantial income?
“However, finding goblins in the plains might only yield a few per day, and herbs are not plentiful. Some adventurers keep their gathering spots secret and collect them while doing other quests…”
There seems to be a reason for the high rewards. The demand for potions is high, and as long as they’re made, they sell well, hence the shortage of herbs.
Filled with hope that I might be able to repay my debts,
“Got it. I’ll head out right away.”
I leave the town and head towards the forest, determined to repay my debts and provide for my parents and Celia.
