The Gods Are Fighting Over Me - Chapter 27
Kenji Hagiwara followed Lin Jianyue back to her place.
At the entrance, he took off his suit jacket and held it in the crook of his arm, but his eyes were discreetly scanning the shoe cabinet.
Five pairs of women’s shoes for different seasons occupied most of the space, but the empty slot at the bottom of the cabinet was just enough to fit two pairs of men’s shoes.
His Adam’s apple bobbed slightly. He was already calculating which day he should bring his shoes over. He’d have to make it look natural, like he was just putting them there for a little while, and then he would occupy the space for a long time.
“I’ll get you some water.” Lin Jianyue closed the shoe cabinet and was about to leave, but her wrist was gently held.
“No rush,” Kenji Hagiwara’s voice was soft, the end of his sentence slightly raised.
“Jianyue-chan, go change into some comfortable clothes first. You must be uncomfortable in that dress.”
Lin Jianyue hesitated for a few seconds, her fingertips unconsciously rubbing the hem of the dress.
The silk fabric clung to her skin, outlining her figure but also tightly wrapping around her body, which was indeed a little stuffy. She turned and walked toward the bedroom, her steps very slow. Before closing the door, she instinctively looked back and happened to see Kenji Hagiwara draping his suit jacket over the shoe cabinet.
He rolled up the sleeves of his white shirt, revealing the smooth lines of his forearms. The veins were faintly visible under his fair skin, gently rising and falling with his movements, like a river ready to flow.
He seemed to have noticed her gaze. He looked at her, a faint smile on his lips, and his eyes held an unexplainable smile.
Lin Jianyue looked away and hurriedly closed the door.
Only Kenji Hagiwara was left in the living room. It was so quiet that he could hear the wind outside the window. He sank into the couch, his fingertips unconsciously caressing the soft leather underneath him. His eyes seemed casual, but they were scanning every corner of the room.
The glass coffee table was empty, with only a few unopened bags of snacks scattered on it.
I should put a bouquet there. Hydrangeas would be perfect, with a simple white porcelain vase. When the morning sun shines in, the petals will look translucent and lovely, and every one of them will sparkle. He thought, and his fingertips lightly tapped on his knee.
As for the closet… his gaze stopped at the bedroom door. He wondered if there was any extra space in Lin Jianyue’s closet for him to put his clothes.
Maybe he could wait for a rainy day and get himself soaked, then stand at Lin Jianyue’s door pitifully begging her to take him in. He would order new clothes from a nearby clothing store online and have them delivered, then use the excuse of wanting to change to wash and dry his wet clothes, and put them in Lin Jianyue’s closet.
After she got used to the presence of his clothes, he would find a day when he had to work late and hang up two of his most frequently worn suits as well.
But he couldn’t rush it.
He lightly tapped his index finger. His plan was becoming clearer.
He had to make her naturally glance over his suit when she opened her closet one morning. When she was looking for clothes, she would casually put his casual pants next to her jeans.
By the time she truly realized it, his presence would have already seeped into every corner of the house like air. She wouldn’t be able to get rid of it, nor would she be able to leave it.
He looked at the bedroom door, a very faint smile on his lips.
After thinking for a moment, Kenji Hagiwara got up and walked toward the kitchen.
When he squatted down and pulled open a cabinet door, he froze as he looked at the only two white porcelain bowls and one lonely pair of chopsticks inside.
Just then, a soft scent wafted from behind him. “What are you looking at?”
Lin Jianyue bent down and stood behind him. Her long hair fell and brushed against Kenji Hagiwara’s ear, like a feather lightly scratching it. It was so itchy, it made his heart itch, too.
Kenji Hagiwara’s back suddenly tensed. His Adam’s apple bobbed twice. He moved half an inch to the side to avoid her hair, but his voice was as steady as if nothing had happened. “I was thinking about whether we should cook together this weekend, but it seems like we don’t have enough utensils.”
“I always eat out or get delivery,” Lin Jianyue straightened up. “So this is enough. I only know how to make instant noodles anyway.”
Kenji Hagiwara suddenly smiled, with a hint of boyish glee. “Then I’ll buy new ones.” Couples’ items.
“I don’t know how to cook.” Lin Jianyue frowned, her tone a little resistant.
“It’s okay, I do.” He closed the cabinet door. “I don’t know how to make a lot of dishes, but I can learn slowly.”
He then casually turned halfway in the kitchen, his eyes scanning the empty spice rack. “Let’s see… we need to get some soy sauce, and we also need to buy miso.”
Lin Jianyue didn’t respond. She knew nothing about cooking and just looked down at the tips of her shoes, her interest waning.
Kenji Hagiwara suddenly leaned over and pecked her on the forehead. “I saw a tutorial on how to make dumplings yesterday. I’ll make some for you this weekend.”
“I don’t know where to buy dumpling wrappers,” Lin Jianyue said, her eyelashes fluttering.
“I do. There’s a small supermarket in the Third Block that sells dumpling wrappers.” Kenji Hagiwara said with a smile, his eyes curving.
Lin Jianyue lowered her eyelids. Her eyes slowly darkened.
These words with a hint of her hometown were said so casually by Kenji Hagiwara, like a thin thread, silently wrapping around her heart.
Dumplings, a stereotypical Chinese dish in the eyes of foreigners. She didn’t like to eat them, but they were indeed an authentic Chinese dish.
Kenji Hagiwara couldn’t have come across it by accident, and there was no reason for him to “happen to” know where to buy dumpling wrappers.
She suddenly remembered that she had once said she wanted to go back home.
He didn’t mention staying, but he was slowly pulling her in the direction of another home.
The kitchen light fell on the top of Kenji Hagiwara’s head, coating it in a warm yellow halo. Lin Jianyue stared at Kenji Hagiwara’s sweet and gentle eyes, which could melt moonlight. She curled her fingertips at her side, but she ultimately didn’t refuse.
“Let’s go to the living room,” Kenji Hagiwara’s voice was very low. He wrapped his arm around Lin Jianyue’s waist and his other hand firmly supported her butt. He lifted her with a little force.
Lin Jianyue didn’t even have time to react before her body was suddenly in the air. She let out a gasp and tightly wrapped her arms around his neck.
“Put me down…” She was a little stiff and nervous.
Even though she had more intimate actions with Kenji Hagiwara in her dreams, it was still different from physical contact in reality.
In the real world, Kenji Hagiwara’s hot body temperature had an aggression that was completely different from his personality. Or perhaps he was inherently aggressive, but he was just very good at hiding it.
Kenji Hagiwara didn’t listen. He carried Lin Jianyue straight to the living room. The light from the hallway cast flickering shadows on the side of his face, hiding the turbulent emotions in his eyes.
He only let go of his arms when he sat down on the couch, letting Lin Jianyue slide down with inertia. She ended up sitting on his lap.
Her legs uncontrollably parted, straddling his thighs. The hem of her skirt slid up half an inch, and her exposed thighs brushed against the fabric of his suit pants.
She subconsciously tried to close her legs, but that only ended up wrapping her legs around his waist. The muscles on his thighs were hard and firm, but their temperature felt like they were on fire, traveling up her skin.
Kenji Hagiwara buried his face in the crook of her neck. His breath was moist and ticklish. “I’m tired.”
Lin Jianyue’s body stiffened. She tried to convince herself not to mind the heat coming from his body and asked in a low voice, “What’s wrong?”
“There have been more and more kidnapping cases in my jurisdiction. Today, I just led the team to solve a kidnapping case of a rich young lady. We ran through three different districts.”
The fatigue from running around became an excuse to be clingy. Kenji Hagiwara affectionately rubbed the tip of his nose against Lin Jianyue’s slender neck, feeling her body in his arms slowly tense up.
He curved his mouth into a smile and whined, “Even though I know that a detective manga’s story must revolve around cases, the rate of incidents is a little too high.”
“The Conan manga has been serialized for thirty years, but only six months have passed in the timeline.” Lin Jianyue’s voice was a little shaky, with a hint of reserve.
“Are you saying that the plot of thirty years has all been compressed into six months?”
Lin Jianyue nodded. “You should be glad you’re not in the criminal department.”
“That’s true,” he suddenly looked up, the tip of his nose brushing against her jaw. “The squad leader hasn’t been home for a week straight. He practically lives at the police headquarters. Natalie was so worried that she came to the police headquarters to drop off stuff twice.”
Lin Jianyue’s breathing became a little shaky. Her body trembled almost imperceptibly.
“Don’t you need to go get some sleep? You’re so tired today.”
She whispered a rejection, trying to push his shoulders away. Her wrist had only moved half an inch when he firmly held it with his other hand.
“When I’m tired, I just want to be closer to you.” Kenji Hagiwara’s voice was a little husky and clingy. He rubbed against her neck even more enthusiastically. Fine shivers ran through the places his hair brushed against.
His breath sprayed on Lin Jianyue’s neck like the morning mist of a tropical rainforest, landing on the sensitive side of her neck. Lin Jianyue subconsciously hunched her shoulders, wanting to hide from the ticklish feeling, but his head was still buried in her shoulder, exposing the part of her white skin that was most sensitive to tickles. So Lin Jianyue trembled even more.
“Then I’ll get off you, and you can rest properly.”
She tried to lift her butt, wanting to move off his lap. The hand on her waist suddenly tightened. Her butt, which had just been separated by half an inch, was pushed back hard onto his firm thighs through her thin cotton shorts.
The dim light cast shadows of varying depths on his face. The downturned eyes that always held a smile were now incredibly bright, like obsidian soaked in the night, with an undisguised aggression.
He didn’t kiss her. He just gently rubbed her cheek with the tip of his nose. The action had a hint of comfort, but his eyes were like a net, slowly enveloping her.
“Jianyue-chan,” Kenji Hagiwara’s thumb gently caressed the side of her waist. His voice was very low, as melodious as a cello. “Can you help me with something, please?”
“What is it?” Her voice was a little hoarse. Her throat felt like it had been scraped with sandpaper. She even breathed lighter.
“Can you help me untie my tie?” He frowned slightly, a hint of just the right amount of grievance appearing in his eyes. But his eyes, which were several degrees darker than usual, had a detailed, almost overflowing, sense of desire woven into them.
“I woke up late today and just randomly tied a knot before I left. It seems like I accidentally tied a knot that can’t be untied.”
Lin Jianyue’s gaze fell on his neck. The neatly tied tie was indeed in a dead knot, tied around his collar like a symbol, encircling some kind of restraint.
“Jianyue-chan,” his tone was very light, even innocent, but his gaze was locked on hers, with a burning heat. “Please help me.”
Lin Jianyue’s fingertips were a little shaky. Her fingers first touched the cold silk tie, then slid to the knot.
The fabric was as cold as ice, but the area under her thumb was incredibly hot.
Lin Jianyue’s usually flexible fingers suddenly became disobedient. She clumsily pulled at it for a long time before she barely managed to loosen the knot.
The moment the tie came loose, Kenji Hagiwara tilted his head back slightly. His Adam’s apple bobbed, revealing the clear line of his neck.
“And the button,” his voice was as low as a sigh, “the first one, it’s suffocating me.”
Lin Jianyue’s fingertips were suspended in the air. She hesitated for two seconds, then she reached for his collar. Her gaze was focused on the man’s neck. She couldn’t ignore his bobbing Adam’s apple and the thin sweat on his neck.
Memories flooded back without warning.
The last time she was forced to stare at his Adam’s apple was in her dream when he covered her entire field of vision with his chest. She couldn’t retreat, so she could only look up, sobbing, to peek at the wall lit by the night light through the small, moving space.
When she finally undid the button, he suddenly pressed his forehead against her shoulder and let out a low chuckle.
A hotter breath than before went down her collar and landed on her collarbone, making Lin Jianyue jump as if she had been branded by fire. The tips of her ears instantly turned red. She raised her voice with a bit of annoyance. “Kenji!”
Kenji Hagiwara laughed even more unrestrainedly. The vibration from his chest came through their touching bodies. He sat up straight and pecked her reddened cheek. “Jianyue-chan is so cute.”
Lin Jianyue frowned. Just as she was about to speak, a large hand suddenly cupped the back of her head. Her face was forced to look up, and her lips were instantly covered by a hot, soft kiss.
He kissed her hard and fast. When his tongue pried open her lips, the arm around her waist slowly slid up along her side. His palm brushed against her skin through the fabric. It was a little itchy and a little hot, burning its way down her spine. It was so hot that she subconsciously tightened her grip on his shirt.
Lin Jianyue wanted to hide, but he held her waist even tighter. The muscles on his thighs, which she was sitting on, were hot and tight, hiding a terrifying, explosive strength.
When the lingering kiss ended, a silver thread swayed between their lips, glowing with a sensual light under the lamp.
Kenji Hagiwara slowly opened his eyes. His violet eyes were incredibly bright in the dim light. The emotions in them were as thick as honey that couldn’t be melted, but they also hid a sharp aggression. He was completely different from his usual smiling self.
“Jianyue-chan, were you not ready this time either?” He smiled softly, his thumb rubbing her lips, which were smudged with lipstick from the kiss. The desire in his eyes was so strong it could swallow a person whole.
Lin Jianyue’s throat suddenly burned. She lowered her head and didn’t say anything, but he grabbed her hand and pressed it to his chest.
Through the thin shirt, she could clearly feel his heart beating, fast and urgent, completely inconsistent with his calm movements.
“Jianyue-chan,” his voice was very hoarse, “my heart is beating so fast.”
The burning male body heat traveled from her palm to her entire body, making her head feel hazy.
Lin Jianyue had confirmed countless times in her dreams that the mobile unit leader who could lift her with one hand could easily restrain all of her struggles with just one hand, but she still subconsciously twisted, wanting to pull her hand out of Kenji Hagiwara’s grip.
Of course, he only held her tighter.
“Kenji, I’m going to get mad!” Her voice was a little fake, putting on a brave face.
The corner of Kenji Hagiwara’s mouth curved into a very faint arc.
He didn’t do anything else. He just buried his face back in the crook of her neck, like a large dog that had found a warm nest. His breathing gradually became steady.
But his arm was still around Lin Jianyue’s waist, with a determined force.
