- Chapter 36 - Jianyue, Open the Door, It’s Your Brother
Kenji Hagiwara stared at the person in front of him without blinking and quietly tried to get his hands, which were tied behind his back, free.
The tie was loosely wrapped around his wrists. It wasn’t tight enough, and it wasn’t done professionally. He could easily use a little force to completely get rid of this flimsy restraint, but he chose not to.
He rubbed his index finger on the smooth surface of the tie twice. Kenji Hagiwara narrowed his eyes. His violet-blue eyes, which were darker than usual, reflected Lin Jianyue’s slightly red, drunk face. He indulgently enjoyed this situation where she was in control.
“Kenji, oh.”
Lin Jianyue’s voice, wrapped in the scent of alcohol, was soft like melted honey and carried a hint of an indescribable grievance.
She held Kenji Hagiwara’s shoulder and slowly sat down. Her bare toes curled inward.
She was just drunk enough. Her eyes were covered in a layer of mist, and everything she did was a beat slower, but she was still sober enough to know what she was doing.
Kenji Hagiwara’s Adam’s apple bobbed silently. A very light sigh escaped his throat. The deep, dark emotions in his eyes swirled like ink-stained seawater.
He lowered his head slightly, his voice extremely low and with a hint of a succubus-like temptation. “Jianyue-chan, can you kiss me?”
“No.” She answered bluntly, with a hint of a tantrum.
“Why not?” Kenji Hagiwara lowered his voice. The end of his words had a hint of a clingy plea, and it also had a hint of an undetectable grievance.
“I begged you for so long in the car, and you wouldn’t kiss me, so I’m not going to kiss you either,” Lin Jianyue lowered her head and slumped into his arms as if she had no bones. Her warm breath fanned his neck, carrying the sweet scent of glutinous rice wine. “It feels so… my stomach is so bloated.”
Her forehead rubbed against Kenji Hagiwara, and her hair brushed against his skin, creating a wave of itchiness.
Kenji Hagiwara, however, chuckled softly, with a hint of playful pleasure. He drew out the last syllable of his words. “Is it very bloated?”
“Mhm.”
Lin Jianyue nodded with a muffled sound and wrapped her arms around Kenji Hagiwara’s neck.
She looked up at him. Her misty eyes, like herself, looked like they were soaked in water. She slowly raised her body, and just as Kenji Hagiwara’s body tensed up, she kissed his lips.
The noon sun pierced through the gaps in the curtains, bright and a little harsh.
Lin Jianyue frowned and let out a light, uncomfortable hum. Her eyelids fluttered, about to open.
A strong, firm arm suddenly rose and loosely draped over her eyes, blocking the blinding light. The woman, who was about to wake up, suddenly relaxed, and her breathing became steady and long again.
Half an hour later, Lin Jianyue woke up because she was hot.
The hot chest was like a stove that constantly emitted heat. Lin Jianyue twisted her body uncomfortably, but she was held tighter by someone’s hand on her waist. The parts of their skin that were touching were astonishingly hot.
Lin Jianyue’s eyebrows furrowed, and she was completely awake. Before she even opened her eyes, she started to struggle and push him away. “Kenji, you’re so hot! I’m dying of heat!”
Kenji Hagiwara chuckled softly and obediently let go. He sat up on the bed.
The blanket slid down, revealing his muscular chest, which had a few light scratch marks on it. He took a pair of pants from the closet and put them on without a shirt, revealing his smooth waistline.
He bent down to pick up the dirty clothes on the floor. The red marks on the back of his shoulder blades were faintly visible, looking particularly eye-catching against his fair skin.
“What do you want for lunch? I’ll order some delivery,” he said, holding the clothes in his arms and looking back, meeting Lin Jianyue’s gaze.
Lin Jianyue had been staring at the scratch marks on Kenji Hagiwara’s shoulder blades. When their eyes suddenly met, she jolted and immediately shrank into the blanket, only revealing the tips of her ears that were red enough to drip bl00d. “Seriously! Put on a shirt!”
“I know, I’ll take the clothes to the laundry first,” Kenji Hagiwara said with a smile. Then there were footsteps and the sound of the door closing.
After he left, the only sound in the room was the hum of the air conditioner. Lin Jianyue was curled up in the darkness. The memories of last night suddenly came back clearly and felt so hot that they made her cheeks blush.
Dreams and reality were truly different.
Although most of the details in her dreams would become blurry after she woke up, in the memories that remained, she was always nestled in Kenji Hagiwara’s arms with a sense of happiness, waiting for him to kiss her forehead.
But in reality…
Ever since she got into art school, she had become a homebody who lived in front of her computer desk. Her physical strength and endurance were not as good as before. When she encountered danger, she could still fight back, but doing a long period of cardio was too much torture for her.
Last night, Lin Jianyue was lost. She clutched Kenji Hagiwara’s shoulders in a wronged way, and a tear hung on her eyelashes, about to fall. She looked so pitiful.
“Kenji, help me.”
As soon as she said that, the body in her arms suddenly tensed up, becoming frighteningly hot. The man’s Adam’s apple, which was so close, suddenly bobbed, letting out a clear swallow.
The next moment, Kenji Hagiwara, in front of her, easily broke free of the tie on his wrists in just one second.
After that, the tear hanging on her eyelashes finally fell, followed by a continuous stream.
The sound of a door opening suddenly rang out, yanking Lin Jianyue back from her memories. The lump of blankets on the bed shrank violently, like a squirming white fur ball.
The mattress next to her sank slightly. Kenji Hagiwara’s voice was filled with a laugh. “Want to go take a bath?”
“You go out first,” Lin Jianyue said in a muffled voice.
“Why?” Kenji Hagiwara asked knowingly.
The person in the blanket lump didn’t say anything.
Kenji Hagiwara didn’t continue to tease her. Instead, he chuckled softly and got up to leave.
After confirming that the door had closed, Lin Jianyue waited for a few more seconds before lifting the blanket, revealing her flushed face.
There was a full-length mirror on the inside of the closet. Lin Jianyue subconsciously looked at the mirror as she was getting changed, carefully examining her body.
She thought there would be marks. She had tried to get away countless times, but she was always pulled back by an overwhelming force and couldn’t break free. But her body was as smooth as jade, without a single mark.
Even when he lost control like last night, he was still incredibly gentle.
There were two knocks on the door. Kenji Hagiwara’s voice came from outside. “The bathwater is ready.”
Lin Jianyue opened the door, just in time to see Kenji Hagiwara’s back as he was turning to leave. She grabbed Kenji Hagiwara’s wrist, and when he turned around in confusion, she jumped into his arms.
Lin Jianyue wrapped her arms around his neck, pulling him down to her level. She stood on her tiptoes, and just as Kenji Hagiwara’s expression turned to one of surprise, she kissed his left cheek. “Thank you.”
After she finished, she let go of him and skipped into the bathroom with her hands behind her back.
When the door closed, Kenji Hagiwara was still in a bent-over posture. He slowly put his hand on the spot where she had kissed him. He lowered his eyes, and the smile on his lips was so gentle it could melt ice and snow.
But twenty minutes later, Lin Jianyue rushed out of the bathroom angrily. She grabbed the pillow from the sofa and threw it at Kenji Hagiwara’s face.
Kenji Hagiwara, who was carrying two bowls of rice out of the kitchen, was stunned. He could have easily dodged it, but he pretended to be slow to react and tilted his head when he was hit, letting out an “ouch.”
Lin Jianyue’s anger immediately subsided by half.
She picked up the pillow that had fallen on the floor and sat down at the dining table with a pout, kneading the cotton inside the pillow with all her might.
Kenji Hagiwara, that idiot, is not gentle at all.
She just didn’t check the right place.
Kenji Hagiwara wasn’t in a hurry to eat. Instead, he moved Lin Jianyue and her chair away from the dining table. He took a hair dryer from under the sink and started to dry her wet hair, which she had just carelessly wiped with a towel.
The warm air blew through her hair. When the last half-dry strand became fluffy, he pressed the switch, and the noise suddenly stopped.
“You have migraines. Remember to dry your hair after you wash it,” he said, then moved her and her chair back to the dining table.
Lin Jianyue, however, curled her fingers uncomfortably, and a look of helplessness appeared on her face. “Kenji… are you treating me like a child?”
She paused, and her voice rose a few pitches, with a hint of angry embarrassment. “Why are you doing this? You could have just let me get up.”
“What’s the big deal? You’re so light, Jianyue-chan.”
Kenji Hagiwara pulled out a chair and sat down across from Lin Jianyue. He propped his chin up and looked at her with a gentle and serious gaze. “Aren’t people who are close supposed to show their childish side in front of each other? Jinpei even called me childish last week.”
He smiled, and the doting in his eyes overflowed. “You’re too tense. You don’t have to be a mature adult all the time.”
However, the next moment, with his excellent vision, Kenji Hagiwara saw Lin Jianyue’s eyes suddenly drop. Her slightly embarrassed face suddenly became sullen, as if she was about to cry.
“Huh?” Kenji Hagiwara was stunned for a moment. He scrambled to his feet but bumped into the table, making a loud clatter.
The bowls and chopsticks on the table wobbled, and the miso soup spilled all over the place.
Kenji Hagiwara became even more flustered. He went to her side and took her hand. “I’m sorry, Jianyue-chan. I shouldn’t have treated you like a child. I promise I won’t do it again. Can you forgive me?”
Lin Jianyue, however, burst into laughter. She looked up and gave Kenji Hagiwara a bitter smile. “I’m just touched.”
“No one has ever treated me like a child before,” she wrapped her arms around Kenji Hagiwara’s waist and gently rested her forehead against his body, swaying slightly with the rhythm of his breathing. “Even my brother only became mature and started to protect and take care of me when he was a sophomore in high school.”
“But I was already in middle school by then. I was burdened with schoolwork and didn’t have many chances to be a child.”
She had never experienced it, so it didn’t matter. But the moment the light came in and shone on her, it was enough to burn her whole body and make her tear ducts ache.
Lin Jianyue smiled and clung to Kenji Hagiwara’s shoulder. “Kenji, I really do like you the most.”
I’m almost too reluctant to leave you.
She closed her eyes and tilted her head up, as if she was expecting a kiss.
Kenji Hagiwara also wrapped his arms around Lin Jianyue and leaned down to cooperate, closing his eyes with emotion.
Their breaths mingled. Just as their lips were about to meet,
The doorbell suddenly rang.
Both of them were shocked.
Kenji Hagiwara let go of her and quickly walked to the door. He looked through the peephole, and his face suddenly turned dark. Every muscle in his body tensed up.
“Jianyue-chan, there’s a strange man outside. He’s wearing a baseball cap and a mask, and I can’t see his face.”
Lin Jianyue’s eyes fluttered. “Someone from the Organization?”
“I’m not sure,” Kenji Hagiwara took out his phone. His fingers slid through his contacts, stopping firmly on Yuya Kazami’s name.
Rei Furuya had told him to contact Kazami directly in case of an emergency to get the most timely response.
The person outside rang the doorbell again, then started to knock on the door impatiently.
The phone call to Yuya Kazami rang twice before it was answered. Just as Kazami’s voice came from the receiver, Lin Jianyue’s phone, which she had left on the coffee table, also rang.
She was stunned for a moment. She walked to the living room and picked up her phone.
The words “Big Brother” were flashing on the phone screen. Lin Jianyue blinked blankly and pressed the answer button.
“Jianyue, are you out?” her brother’s voice came from the receiver.
“No. What’s wrong, big brother?”
The next moment, her brother’s voice boomed from both the door and the phone at the same time. “Jianyue, open the door.”
Lin Jianyue’s body instantly froze. Her neck, as if it were rusty, slowly and haltingly turned to look at the door.
Her gaze passed the bite marks on Kenji Hagiwara’s shoulder and landed directly on the chilling peephole, as if she had already met her brother’s eyes through the door.
“Big brother, wait. I’m taking a bath. Five minutes!” Lin Jianyue hung up the phone without another word and grabbed Kenji Hagiwara.
Her face was filled with panic as she held up her index finger to her lips. She dragged him to the bedroom and frantically pushed him into the closet. “Don’t come out no matter what!”
