The Great Sage Who Did not Remain in Legend - 11.4
“Why would I do that?”
“Don’t get mad. Alright, extend your hand.”
“Huh? Aren’t you supposed to transfer the magic circle from the magic book?”
“That’s right.”
Mergin’s magic book had dummy magic circles drawn on it. Normally, magic circles drawn with magic ink and then transferred to people would significantly reduce the efficiency of magic activation. Using someone else’s magic circle drawn with magic ink required more magic power. On the other hand, Mergin’s method directly incorporated the magic into the person, enabling them to use the magic as if it were their own.
Mergin placed the magic book on his hand as if he were transferring the magic circle, engraved the magic circle onto the person’s body, and erased the magic circle from the magic book.
“There, successful. Just chant ‘Soft Water’ as written there, and you’ll be fine.”
“Soft Water” wasn’t a translation into this world’s language but the original language of the other world. It referred to water suitable for drinking and cooking, commonly known as soft water. Although using “soft water” for the incantation would have been fine, Mergin, in his full chuunibyou phase, couldn’t resist using English he knew from his dark past.
To confirm the successful transfer of the magic circle, he handed a cup to the woman in front of him.
“Soft Water.”
As he chanted, water poured into the cup with a gurgling sound. It amounted to about 200cc at once. If the water magic aptitude is C or higher, the magic power usage is 1. In contrast, typical ones using magic ink require more than 10 magic power.
The woman took a sip of the water just produced.
“Vanessa, Cisco, try this water.”
She let her two companions drink the water just produced.
“It’s the same.”
“Yeah, it’s the same.”
“Looks like it’s settled.”
“Yeah.”
“What’s settled?”
Mergin questioned the meaning of their words, “settled by the three.”
“The water from the flask that the girl rescued from the wolves had the same taste as this. So, it was you who helped that girl, right?”
He had given these guys that water to drink. Too bad… There’s no way I can bluff my way out of this.
“So what if it was?”
Mergin lowered his voice a bit this time and took a cautious stance without hiding it.
“Oops, don’t be so wary. We’re a party called Star’s Guidance belonging to the Hunter’s Guild in the capital. I’m Rocca, and these are Vanessa and Cisco. In addition to this water magic…”
Rocca, who had identified herself, glanced at Fairy Rose.
“Do you have time tonight?”
“Well, I sold a magic book for money. Our relationship ends here. What else do you need?”
Mergin replied curtly.
“Don’t be so guarded. I apologize for making you suspicious. I have something I want to ask. How about having a drink while we talk? It’s up to you to decide where. Even an expensive place is fine.”
Mergin thought that if he refused here, they might persistently come to the shop.
“Alright. Then, do you know Ricca’s Diner near 20:00?”
“Oh, that’s Mr. Dad’s place, right? Alright, I’ll wait at 20:00.”
And thus, Star’s Guidance left the shop, raising their hands as a farewell to Fairy Rose.
“Is it over?”
“Yeah, sorry to keep you waiting.”
