The Great Sage Who Did not Remain in Legend - 13.2
“Yeah, what kind of country?”
“It’s a country where people with black hair and eyes like me are normal. I don’t really remember how I got here.”
“Seriously? Are you talking about amnesia or something? Did something attack you and hit your head?”
“That’s why I don’t remember. Did you invite me here just to hear that kind of story?”
Mergin became increasingly unhappy.
“Vanessa, it’s a hunter’s common sense not to pry into someone’s past, right? Cut it out. Sorry, Mergin. Vanessa didn’t mean any harm. She was just curious about you.”
“Why does she suddenly have an interest in me? Did I do something?”
Watching Mergin’s exchange with Star’s Guidance, the landlady went to report to the owner.
— In the kitchen —
“They’re bothering Mergin?”
“No, those girls seem to be talking normally, but Mergin seems unusually unhappy. I thought something might have happened.”
“I see. Keep an eye on them for a bit, and I’ll go check on them once I’m done here.”
“Got it. Looks like Mergin might start shouting soon.”
“Understood.”
— In the restaurant —
“Ahh, this isn’t cheap sake. It’s so good!”
While the landlady was telling the owner about Mergin and the others, something happened. Vanessa took Mergin’s drink and put it to her lips.
“Give it back!”
“Hey, how did this happen? Did it have something to do with spinning it around with your finger? Magic? Is this something you’re selling?”
After Vanessa took back the sake from Mergin, she grabbed his arm and persistently asked what this was all about.
“Here’s your order!”
Boom, boom, boom!
At that moment, Rikka brought the food over.
Boom, splat!
“Hey Rikka, you spilled it!”
Rikka served only Mergin his usual meal. Due to her careless placement, it splashed onto Mergin.
“Oh, sorry about that.”
“Hey, Rikka.”
“Hmph, you can clean it up right away, can’t you?”
“You idiot!”
Mergin raised his voice.
The noisy atmosphere in the shop quieted down.
“What, didn’t I apologize?”
It was the first time Mergin had yelled at her, making Rikka teary-eyed. Despite often saying things that annoyed him and even hitting him, he had never gotten angry before.
“It’s not because my clothes got dirty. It’s about not disrespecting the meal the chef put effort into, even if it’s just staff meal.”
“What, acting all high and mighty just because you’re Mergin?”
Leaving those parting words behind, tearful-eyed Rikka ran off.
“Sorry about that…”
Vanessa apologized as she watched.
“What do you mean?”
“Um, you know. Maybe Rikka-chan misunderstood because we were sticking around you…”
“Misunderstanding? How do you misunderstand a situation where you kept persistently asking what this was?”
