The Great Sage Who Did not Remain in Legend - 14.1
“So that’s what happened. Rikka, come over here,”
Feeling awkward because she caused her father and Mergin to get into a fistfight, Rikka timidly approached.
“Rikka, do you understand that you’re the reason the shop ended up like this?”
“B-but Mergin…”
“Mergin got upset because you mishandled Dadd’s cooking, right?”
“But Mergin…”
The landlady glared at Rikka as she tried to make excuses.
“I’m sorry…”
“Mergin, what you said was right. But yelling at a child who’s not even an adult yet isn’t right just because you’re in a bad mood.”
“That’s because Rikka…”
Glare.
“I-I’m sorry. Rikka, I shouldn’t have yelled.”
“Yeah…”
“And Dadd…”
“H-hai.”
“You’ll have to prepare yourself for a separate conversation later.”
“M-Mergin…”
The owner sought help from Mergin, but he just turned away coldly. The grudge from being suddenly punched was strong.
“So, why were you two interested in Mergin?”
“Well, actually…”
Rikka told the story of how Mergin had saved a girl who was about to be attacked by a wolf.
“Disgusting. Trying to lay hands on a child like that.”
Listening to the story, Rikka mistakenly concluded that Mergin had ulterior motives for rescuing the girl.
“Rikka, don’t interrupt when someone else is talking. And what are you to Mergin? A lover? Or perhaps engaged?”
Observing from the sidelines, Millie understood clearly that Rikka, in the throes of adolescence, was jealous of Mergin. Fortunately, Mergin only saw Rikka as a child.
“I-I’m not like that! It’s just that Mergin often has beautiful women visiting him, or arranges meetings like this with women!”
“What does Mergin’s relationships have to do with you?”
Glare.
“I-I know it doesn’t…”
“Then stay quiet.”
“Hey, Millie, you don’t mean that Rikka is…”
Glare.
“S-sorry…”
“So, you became interested in Mergin because of that. Is that really the only reason? It can’t be, right?”
Rikka exchanged looks with the others.
“Well, actually, we thought Mergin might be a storage magic user. We were hoping he could teach us how to use storage magic.”
“Storage magic? Mergin, can you really use such legendary magic?”
Millie asked, knowing Mergin could use storage magic. This meant to divert attention.
“There’s no way I can use it.”
Mergin flatly denied it.
“Then how were you storing things?”
Rikka persisted.
“Tch… Don’t tell anyone. It was in here.”
