The Great Sage Who Did not Remain in Legend - 14.2
Mergin showed a small pouch attached to his back belt.
“Is that a magic bag?”
“Yeah. It holds emergency food and such.”
“You went all the way to Lionel without any other luggage?”
“You know my occupation, right? I don’t need water or anything. I can use cleansing magic, so I don’t need to change clothes. I didn’t want to hold that brat’s baggage because it would deplete my magic crystals faster.”
“I see…”
“Don’t tell anyone. You know where my shop is, right? If people find out I have a magic bag around there, they’ll figure it out.”
“True. So there really isn’t a way to use storage magic after all.”
Rikka looked disappointed, but Vanessa leaned in close to Mergin.
“Wha-what is it?”
“Just tell me where you got that.”
“This was something I inherited from my parents. I don’t know where they got it.”
“I see. So, if we go to Mergin’s hometown, can we find out where you got it?”
“I don’t even know how to get back home, so I think that’s a pointless idea.”
“Oh, I see.”
“So, are we done talking about this?”
“Yeah… I’m really sorry this time.”
“Well, it’s over now. Landlady, since I wrecked the shop, I’ll help clean up.”
“Of course, dear.”
With that settled, Star’s Guidance sent off the others and Mergin’s group began cleaning up the shop.
After cleaning up, they decided to have a drink with the boss. Since they’d face the landlady’s lecture if they went back to their room, they were asked to stay until she fell asleep.
“Hey, Mergin.”
“What?”
“Sorry about that. I was glad to hear you got mad for the food I made.”
“Then you should’ve asked from the start. If someone suddenly hits me, I’m going to be pissed.”
“So, I said I’m sorry. But when I hit you, what were you planning to do? You weren’t trying to kill me, were you?”
“If I really wanted to kill you, I could’ve done it with magic in one blow.”
“So, then what were you trying to do?”
“That was a buff, a magic that enhances the body. I thought it would be unbearable to be hit like that, so I strengthened myself.”
“Oh, there’s magic like that?”
“When you were active duty, didn’t you ever feel like your opponent’s movements slowed down when you concentrated to the limit?”
“Oh, yeah. When I prepared for the possibility of being killed if I let my guard down, I sometimes felt like that.”
“That’s a buff. You’re unconsciously using body enhancement magic.”
“What?”
“Everyone has magical power, so they can use magic. It just doesn’t activate because they don’t know how.”
“Really?”
“For example, some people can cut hard wood with a sword even if they’re not strong.”
“Those so-called swordsmen can still do it when they’re old.”
“It’s the same with magic. I can use a sword to some extent, but I can’t do such tricks. But if I knew how to handle a sword properly, I might be able to. Magic is the same. Everyone has the same magical power, regardless of differences in magical power value. It’s just that they don’t know how to use it.”
“Does magic transcription make that possible?”
“Yeah, it allows you to use magic through magic circles. Also, magical aptitude is like motor skills. Some people are good at sprinting but bad at long-distance running, right?”
“I see…”
