The Great Sage Who Did not Remain in Legend - 14.4
“I think you understand, but keep the magic crystals a secret.”
“They sell for quite a good price. I had a few bought by the brothel’s madam, but she also said not to sell them elsewhere.”
“Of course. They’ll definitely ask too many questions about where you got them.”
“Magic crystals like these weren’t uncommon in the past. Since magic tools were more advanced, magic crystals were essential.”
The source of the magic that powers magic tools comes from either magic crystals or magic stones. Magic crystals are the core of monsters, while magic stones form after a long time when trees decay. The magic stones produced from trees have less magic because the magic stored in trees is minimal. This country seems to have places where magic stones accumulate, making them relatively easy to obtain.
“And the buff? Can you cast it on others?”
“Yes, but it’s difficult without coordination and experience between the caster and the recipient. The caster needs to properly infuse magic power, and the amount of magic is also necessary. Using it in actual combat requires lots of practice in coordination.”
“Is that so? Try casting it on me.”
“Sure.”
Mergin cast a buff on the captain.
– During the Hero Party Era –
Mergin was practicing for the first time with Hero Maverick and his group.
“Mergin, I told you, wizards support the front line. Don’t go too far ahead.”
Misty scolded Mergin.
“Hey!”
At fifteen, Mergin was eager to stand out. When he saw a monster, he rushed in ahead of Maverick and the others and blasted it with magic.
“It’s quicker to defeat them with magic.”
“Fool! Against stronger monsters or demons, magic might not work. I’ve told you many times that the strategy is for Scout Veloce to distract the enemy, create an advantage for us, and then Maverick and Gaine take them down.”
“So, what do we do? Just watch?”
Mergin responded sulkily to Misty.
“I bind or weaken the enemy. You enhance Maverick and the others’ physical abilities. That gives us a significant advantage.”
“Tch, I’m just casting buffs.”
“How many times have I told you not to talk back?”
Mergin sulked even more after being repeatedly scolded by Misty.
“Are we done with the briefing?”
Maverick, still expressionless, addressed Misty and Mergin.
“Maverick, I’m supposed to buff the three armed ones.”
“Alright, let’s try it.”
Misty told them not to practice during an actual battle, so they used a large tree as a mock enemy for coordination practice.
“Let’s go.”
Maverick readied his sword and dashed toward the tree just as Mergin cast the buff.
Whoosh! Thud!
“Ah…”
Maverick, unable to control his unexpected burst of speed, crashed into the tree.
“Are you okay?”
Mergin felt responsible and worried about Maverick.
“Mergin, what are you doing?”
