The Great Sage Who Did not Remain in Legend - 17.1
Gulp, gulp, gulp, gulp…
Where did the girl who said she didn’t want to eat anything before taking a bath go?
Watching the girl devour the freshly cooked hamburgers greedily, Mergin started cooking more.
“I feel like meat is going to come out of my mouth…”
Well, if you eat four big hamburgers, that’s bound to happen.
The girl was rubbing her belly. Her vacant eyes had returned to normal, so she seemed fine now.
“If that’s the case, you should go to bed now.”
“… Thank you again for everything.”
Stopping her belly rubbing, the girl looked at Mergin and thanked him.
“You don’t need to thank me.”
“I-I’m Iris.”
The girl introduced herself as Iris and glanced briefly at Mergin. She remembered being told before that he didn’t care to know her name when he helped her.
“I’m Mergin.”
He thought she might say he didn’t need to introduce himself, but she readily told him her name too.
“After taking a bath and eating, you should feel settled, right? Actually, it’s better for your body to eat before taking a bath. The bedroom is this way. The bed is mine, but don’t refuse.”
“Um, well…”
“Just go to bed for tonight.”
Mergin said this and opened the door to the bedroom, giving Iris the bed.
Iris hesitated but eventually got into the bed. Wrapped in a soft, fluffy futon unlike anything she had experienced before, she fell asleep in no time.
Rikka’s dining room when Mergin picked up Iris –
Rikka was crying in her room. She had overheard her father talking secretly, and heard Mergin clearly say he wasn’t interested in her as a woman. But she couldn’t understand why she was so sad.
So, I liked Mergin after all…
Ironically, Rikka realized that she was sad because she liked Mergin, even though he had said he wasn’t interested in her as a woman.
Watch out, Mergin. I’ll make you regret saying you’re not interested.
True to being Millie’s daughter, after sniffing and wiping her nose, she switched from sadness to battle mode.
The next morning –
“Good morning…”
Feeling awkward after being saved again by the man who had been teasing her before, Iris realized she had slept deeply, occupying the bed he used.
Mergin had slept on the sofa without a blanket. Iris figured there was only one set of bedding.
“Hm? Morning already… Ugh, I’m still sleepy from last night.”
“I-I’m sorry…”
“Nah, it’s not just your fault. I’m sleepy, so the shop’s closed today.”
“What kind of shop is it?”
“I talked about magic before, right? This is a magic bookshop.”
“Can you afford not to open the shop just because you’re sleepy?”
“No one’s coming anyway, so it’s fine. Well, let’s have breakfast.”
Breakfast was sausages, fried eggs, and bread. Instant soup was included.
“You’re having a luxurious breakfast. The hamburgers from yesterday were really delicious too. This bread is so soft.”
It was just normal sandwich bread. In this world, bread was usually hard, so it was Iris’s first time having toasted sandwich bread.
“Forget about the hamburgers, just frying sausages and eggs is easy, right? It tastes the same no matter who makes it.”
“Well, this bread is usually harder.”
“That’s also good in its own way. But eating it in the morning makes my jaw tired.”
