The Great Sage Who Did not Remain in Legend - 19.1
“What the… What’s with that girl you brought? She’s not even close to my level!”
Rikka was furious at Iris, who had a similar physique. She had entered battle mode to teach Mergin a lesson for suddenly bringing a strange girl home to stay, and her anger hadn’t subsided.
“Rikka, come over here, we’re opening the shop.”
Called by the landlady, she went to the shop.
“Mom!”
“What is it?”
“If you hire that girl, I won’t work here anymore!”
Rikka declared, leaving the landlady to mutter, wondering what to do next.
Knight Corps Barracks –
“Hahaha! This sword feels light, incredibly light! It’s the first sword that fits so well in my hand.”
Fairy Rose swung the sword she received from Mergin in her barracks room, unable to contain her smile.
“Hey, Rose, what’s all the commotion?”
A man suddenly entered Fairy Rose’s room. The Knight Corps barracks were not separated by gender.
“Oh, elder brother!”
The man who entered was her elder brother from the adjacent room.
“Hm? What’s with that sword you’re holding?”
He noticed the sword Rose held, clearly different from the standard longsword issued to them.
“Well, uh…”
“Show me.”
Without waiting for an answer, her brother took the sword from her.
“Where did you get this sword?”
“W-Well, um… Someone gave it to me, saying they no longer needed it…”
Her brother swung the sword decisively upon hearing her explanation.
“This sword has its weight well balanced towards the handle. It seems to prioritize speed over power… Interesting.”
He quickly assessed the sword’s characteristics and thought it must have been made specifically for his sister. He continued to examine the sword closely.
“Um… Elder brother?”
“Which noble house are you from?”
“Huh? Um, well… I’m not from a noble house.”
“Are you telling me a commoner had a sword like this, which nobles would treat as a family heirloom?”
Rose stared at her brother nervously.
“I was told to keep its origin secret. As a knight, I cannot break that promise, even to you, elder brother.”
“Is this not stolen goods?”
“I-I don’t think so. The person who gave it to me wouldn’t do such a thing, I believe.”
“You’re so naive… Well, if it’s not stolen, that’s a relief, but…”
“But what’s the problem then? Shouldn’t it be fine to use a sword other than the issued one?”
“It’s not about that.”
“Then what’s the problem?”
“Do you understand what kind of sword this is?”
“It’s sharp and durable…”
“No, this is likely what they call a magic sword or cursed sword.”
“Huh?”
“I’ve held the Commander’s sword once before. I was told it’s a magic sword then. Although different in type, it feels similar to holding the Commander’s sword.”
“Th-Then, is this a valuable sword?”
“Of course. The Commander’s sword was bestowed by His Majesty. There are only three such swords in the kingdom, they say.”
“Really?”
“They say it can’t be reproduced with current technology.”
“S-So it’s that valuable of a sword?”
“I can’t be sure either. Since there’s no way to confirm if it’s a magic sword.”
“What exactly is a magic sword?”
“It’s also called a magic sword, as I mentioned earlier, it seems to amplify the power of the sword with magic. For example, it can cut enemies by wrapping flames around it, or cut far away with the power of wind.”
