The Great Sage Who Did not Remain in Legend - 2.1
“I heard you’re selling magic here that can produce water.”
That’s what the female hunter said as she entered the shop. She was a tall, sharp-featured beauty with a sword at her waist.
“Yeah, we’re selling it.”
“Is it the same magic as other magic bookstores?”
“I can’t really say. I don’t know what kind of magic other stores have.”
“I see… Well, I bought a water-producing magic book from a magic bookstore in the downtown area, but it didn’t work well.”
“How much did you pay for it?”
“100,000 G.”
“That’s about right. It might not work because of a failed transcription or because you don’t have the knack for it.”
“The knack?”
“Yeah. Even if the transcription is done right, it might not work for some people. Didn’t you check that at the store?”
“The downtown store didn’t give me such explanations. Also, can you really tell if the transcription was done correctly?”
“We never fail, so I wouldn’t know about other stores. Do you have the magic book you bought?”
“Yeah, here it is.”
The female hunter showed the magic book. It had an incantation for producing water, but it might need boiling to make it drinkable.
“This can produce water that might be like rainwater. Some people can drink it as is, while others might get sick. Did they draw a magic circle on this page?”
“Yeah, they transcribed that for me.”
“Is the incantation pronounced correctly?”
“Probably.”
“Try chanting it here.”
Upon Mergin’s request, the female hunter chanted, but nothing happened.
“See, nothing happened.”
“The pronunciation in your chant was wrong. It should be like this.”
Mergin corrected her pronunciation.
“Mijyu shereiyo…”
“Not Mijyu, it’s mizu no seirei.”
“Miju…”
“Mizu.”
After practicing the pronunciation several times, she finally managed to produce water with the magic.
Splash
“There, it worked!”
“Good, you weren’t tricked.”
“Oh, shopkeeper. Thank you for your kindness.”
“Nah, normally I’d charge, but since you’re a pretty lady, it’s on the house.”
“Pretty? You mean me?”
“Yeah, your figure is strong for a woman, but your face is beautiful, I think.”
Blushing, she responded shyly, seeming innocent.
“Sorry. My comrades always say I’m big and lack charm.”
“They just don’t have good taste.”
