The Great Sage Who Did not Remain in Legend - 3.2
“We can handle boars somehow, but it’s impossible to take down Orkans with a big axe, right? We need a bow or something.”
The general’s weapon of choice is a large axe. Boars are monsters that attack people, so they can be fended off with a big axe. However, Orkans are swift creatures with strong caution, so traps or long-range attacks from a distance are needed.
“You can use magic, can’t you?”
“The general told me not to use attack magic in public.”
“He said not to use it in front of people.”
“Oh, right, the general isn’t just anyone.”
Smack!
Mergin said something unnecessary again.
“So, how many do we need to hunt?”
“Rikka, hunt enough not to be suspected by. I want to make salted meat soon.”
Orkans’ meat is tender and without strong flavor, making it a delicacy in the downtown area when salted. Boars have a wild taste, but this season’s fat is sweet, suitable for both grilling and stewing.
“Got it. We’ll meet at the plaza around noon.”
“Yeah.”
Mergin parted ways with the chief and went hunting.
He found Orkans while sensing the presence of creatures and skillfully hunted them down with magic, swiftly.
“Five should be enough.”
Using dismantling magic, he separated the Orkans into materials and meat by body parts. He aged the belly part with magic and prepared it on skewers for lunch. He also brought salt and collected mushrooms.
He gathered dry branches, lit a fire, and started grilling the meat around the fire.
At the scent of cooking meat, as if drawn by it, the chief arrived carrying a large boar. His appearance was that of a bandit.
“You’re quick, boy. You better not have been slacking off.”
“I’ve already started grilling the meat. It’s separated by parts, and I’ve removed the fur and horns. Of course, no guts.”
“I see. Then I’ll leave this one to you.”
With a thud, the chief threw the large boar onto the ground. Mergin dismantled it with dismantling magic, separating it by body parts and storing it away.
“As impressive as ever, that dismantling magic of yours.”
“Chief, you should get dismantling magic too. I’ll throw in a bonus, 3 million.”
“You idiot. I could just take you along for free, why pay 3 million?”
“Don’t think I’ll stay in this country forever.”
Mergin replied, and the chief’s expression turned serious.
“Tabasa was a shame, huh?”
“Yeah…”
The chief wasn’t just using Mergin; he had taken Mergin out because Tabasa had died and Mergin had lost his spirit.
“You’ve been in this town for three years already. Time flies.”
“Yeah…”
