The Great Sage Who Did not Remain in Legend - 30.1
“Ugh, my head hurts.”
“That’s because you drank alcohol despite being underage.”
“They said it was juice!”
Iris, feeling down with a hangover.
“Come on, let’s go train.”
“What?”
Iris’ face turns pale. If she trains in her current condition, she’ll definitely throw up. Even now, she looks like something might come up.
“Let’s take a break today…”
“What would you do if a monster attacked you right now?”
“That won’t happen… Urgh.”
“Listen, if you really plan to become a hunter, you need to always keep yourself in good condition. Death is always around the corner.”
“I understand… I understand, but my head hurts.”
“Fine. I’ll give you today and tomorrow off. If this happens again, I’ll drag you to training even if you’re throwing up.”
“Y-yes.”
“Drink this and go to bed.”
Mergin gives Iris water with honey and salt, letting her rest. Now, I’ll start preparing for tonight and tomorrow. Today is New Year’s Eve, so I need to cook the meals for the year-end and New Year.
Mergin soaks the glutinous rice in water and puts kelp in two pots. One pot is for fugu bone broth, and the other is for chicken broth.
The fugu broth is for tonight’s hot pot, and the chicken broth is for tomorrow’s zoni soup, so they need big pots. I’ll keep quiet about the fugu being a poisonous fish from Iris.
After some preparation, it’s past noon. Iris hasn’t woken up yet, so I have lunch alone and start making New Year’s dishes. Sweet and spicy simmered chicken, roast beef and roast pork, grilled fish, simmered beans, chestnut kinton, and potato salad. That should be enough. I want kazunoko and kamaboko, but we don’t have those.
Iris wakes up as I finish preparing.
“I’m hungry.”
Iris seems to recover her stomach as well as her magic power quickly.
“Alright, let’s have dinner.”
Mergin tidies up the living room and takes out something like a kotatsu from the item box.
“What is this?”
“It’s a magical tool called a kotatsu. We’ll eat dinner inside it.”
Mergin places a magical stove on top of the kotatsu and sets the hot pot on it.
“Be careful not to tip over the pot.”
“It’ll be fine. I just have to get inside, right?”
“Yes.”
“Wow, it’s warm. Hehehe.”
Iris laughs, charmed by the kotatsu.
Meanwhile, Mergin brings the fugu slices and vegetables for the hot pot. He also brings a charcoal brazier and lastly, some fugu sashimi.
“If you can’t eat raw fish, you don’t have to. If you do, eat it with this ponzu sauce.”
“Wow, this is a feast. It’s been a while since I had puku.”
Huh?
“You know this fish?”
“From its size, it’s hon-puku, right? It’s expensive and rare, so I’m happy.”
