The Great Sage Who Did not Remain in Legend - 35.2
“Little brother, it feels like being in a bath. With this, the cold of the night watch is no longer a concern.”
“Ah, Adele, can you make one for me as well?”
“No, the thermal circuit was only provided for the lady. Although there’s still fabric…”
“Then I should just ask Mergin for the thermal circuit, right?”
“Little brother, the remaining fabric was given by Mergin as a reward to Adele. What are you thinking of taking it?”
Adele, who was looking forward to making her own clothes, was relieved that Rose had warned her. Such fabric might not be available again, and if it includes magic silkworm thread, it would be something that could last a lifetime.
“Any fabric will do. Adele, you said ‘the lady’? Is that someone at Mergin’s place?”
“Yes, it seems to be someone like an apprentice.”
“Then make one for that person too and take it there.”
“Yes, that is the plan.”
“When will you go?”
“Since it might be inconvenient at the start of the new year, I was thinking of going on the 3rd.”
“Then tell Mergin that I will go on the 5th.”
“Are you going, little master?”
“I have other matters to discuss as well. Make sure you convey it properly.”
“Y-yes, understood.”
And that night watch.
Rose, standing vigil with a dignified posture.
“Ugh, it’s so cold. Rose, it’s your turn.”
The gate watch system involves changing every two hours.
“Then I’ll take over. Thank you for your service.”
Even among the low-ranking members, she greeted the senior knights and headed to the break room.
“Rose, aren’t you cold?”
In the break room, other knights were taking off their armor and warming themselves by the fireplace.
“It’s a matter of training.”
With a smile, Rose poured instant soup, given by Mergin, into a cup and added hot water.
“What did you just do?”
“I used magic to produce hot water. Why don’t the seniors just use the magic stove?”
“You can produce hot water with magic now? And soup too?”
“That’s a secret. Knights have a duty of confidentiality.”
“Tell me! This is a senior’s order. Where did you buy that magic book?”
“Is it a violation of rules for a senior knight to order breaking confidentiality? It’s against the discipline.”
“Ugh.”
“Please, tell me. It seems incredibly convenient.”
“There’s a duty of confidentiality.”
Rose was very pleased. Even though she was just a low-ranking knight, those in higher ranks often bossed around their juniors. But now, they were asking for her help.
Rose recalled Mergin’s words that she could share with trustworthy people and only replied with “I have a duty of confidentiality” no matter how many times the seniors asked.
Rose, having spent New Year’s Eve on the night watch, headed to the New Year’s ceremony. The New Year’s ceremony was not a party but a ritual where knights swore their oaths before His Majesty the King. Afterward, the knights would take on the duty of guarding the nobles who came to greet the king.
