The Great Sage Who Did not Remain in Legend - 41.2
“Do you really want them that much?”
“Eh? Are you going to buy them for me?”
“If you want them that badly, I’ll give them to you.”
“Eh?”
“It’s not worth buying. I already have several gemstones. I’ll let you choose the ones you like when we get back.”
“Do you really have them?”
“Yeah. I have them because I have no use for them. Even if I tried to sell them, there’s no market for them. I’m a foreigner, right? If I sell them carelessly, people might think they’re stolen.”
“Seriously?”
“Instead, next time, come out without a bath towel wrapped around you.”
Mergin, making a sexual harassment comment, was punched by Vanessa.
“Cisco-sama!”
A well-dressed man came over with a loud voice.
“Who’s that?”
“My father. Who reported this?”
He glared at the store clerk, who averted his eyes. It was likely the person in charge of this section.
“Cisco, you haven’t shown your face at all… Who are these dirty people?”
I see, being called dirty must hurt. Though the clothes don’t match the store, I wanted to retort that they were clean. Mergin patted Vanessa on the shoulder.
“What’s up?”
“I understand how you feel now.”
“What do you mean?”
“Father, this is Rikka, the eldest daughter of the Gramman Workshop, and our leader. This is Vanessa, a member of our party. The man is Mergin, the owner of the magic book store. Is this introduction alright?”
“A foreigner?”
“Yes, it’s better not to be too arrogant since he’s a distinguished foreigner.”
What? What is Cisco talking about?
“A distinguished person?”
“Yes, it seems that he is on good terms with a noble lady in this country. If that lady gets engaged to him, the shop that treated him poorly might face consequences. Well, it doesn’t concern me.”
Cisco’s father became stiff upon hearing this.
“Ah, my apologies, Mergin-sama. My foolish daughter has caused you much trouble.”
The swift change of attitude was quite merchant-like and favorable.
“No, I’m sorry for coming in such inappropriate attire for such a wonderful store.”
“No, no, your outfit is very suitable and comfortable.”
Mergin played along with Cisco’s falsehood.
“Um… Mergin-san, is this alright?”
Iris, dressed in the fitting clothes, came over while Cisco’s father was wringing his hands.
“What about this?”
“This is a distinguished young lady that Mergin cherishes. We came to buy her coming-of-age ceremony clothes. Since she doesn’t want to stand out too much, we chose this.”
Without waiting for Mergin’s reply, Cisco approved.
“This looks very good on you.”
“Oh, thank you.”
“Which accessories would you like?”
“This ribbon is fine. I heard Mergin has other accessories. Father, if you’re done, please return to work. It would be inappropriate to stay here any longer.”
“Yes, yes. Mergin-sama, I look forward to your continued support of the Fortnam Trading Company.”
Cisco’s father, wringing his hands to the point where smoke might appear, left the scene.
“Thank you for going along with the story, Mergin.”
Cisco thanked Mergin while lowering her gaze.
“Do you have a bad relationship with your father?”
“I respect him as a merchant. But…”
“But what?”
“My father wants to become a noble. So I really dislike how he tries to use me for that.”
“Can commoners become nobles?”
“It seems there are ways, like marrying into nobility or buying a noble title from a noble who’s out of money.”
“Is that really possible?”
“I don’t know if it’s true. Anyway, that’s enough about this. Iris seems to be finished too, so I’ll have this red ribbon wrapped separately.”
Cisco said this and handed the dark red ribbon to the store clerk, instructing him to wrap it separately.
“That will be 1,700,000 G.”
Mergin couldn’t believe his ears.
“170,000 G?”
“You are very good at jokes, Mergin-sama.”
