The Great Sage Who Did not Remain in Legend - 41.3
The clerk smiled broadly. It seemed it wasn’t a mishearing.
Mergin paid with some small coins.
“Thank you very much. It will be ready by the 8th.”
The person in charge, wringing his hands, was also present.
The clerk had almost said the 9th, but Cisco asked what they would do if the size didn’t fit, so it was set for the 8th.
On the way back
“I’m so, so sorry, Mergin-san. I didn’t expect such a high price.”
“I was surprised too. But since I was planning to give you all the money from the Snow Flower, it’s no problem.”
“Ah, thank you.”
“If only I had met Mergin before coming of age, I wouldn’t have had to wear such rags. It’s unfair that only Iris gets nice clothes.”
“Vanessa, I was made to wear men’s clothes. Think of it as better.”
“Eh? Rikka, is that true?”
“It seems my father wanted a son and actually wanted to name me Rock.”
So, Rikka is a rare name. I thought it was unusual, but it was named in place of Rock. Everyone has their own story.
“Can we stop by my workshop on the way back?”
“What for?”
“I need to have my sword sharpened. The blade got dull from cutting logs yesterday. It seems the sword’s line got shaky because it was strengthened.”
“Can’t you sharpen it yourself?”
“I can, but I can’t compare to my father. If I’m going to train, I want to do it in the best condition.”
“I’m interested in the workshop too, so that’s fine.”
“Mergin, you don’t use weapons, do you?”
“No, I just want to meet your father.”
“Oh? Are you planning to put Rikka in a tight spot too?”
“Who’s saying they want to marry Rikka? I’m planning to buy weapons for the kids, so I want to see what’s available.”
“You mentioned wanting to meet him, so I thought…”
And why include Rikka? I’m not trying to put anyone in a tight spot.
The Gramman Workshop was located in a back alley. It looked fairly old.
“I’m back, Dad.”
When Rikka entered the shop, her father, who looked stubborn, glared at her.
“Oh, it’s you, Rikka.”
“That’s a terrible way to say it.”
“So, are you going to marry that guy? Black-haired one, take him as your bride and get out of here quickly.”
What kind of conversation is this?
“That’s not it. I just came to look because I heard Rikka’s family runs a weapons and armor workshop.”
“Then feel free to look around.”
What an unwelcoming father.
“Sorry, Mergin. This is just how my father is.”
“Hey, Uncle.”
“Oh, Vanessa. Good to see you. Come over here and sit down. You’ve grown up.”
What’s with this change?
“When Vanessa was helping at our shop, she seemed to get along well. Apparently, she’s cuter than my real daughter.”
Vanessa is indeed friendly, so it makes sense that the old man likes her.
While the old man and Vanessa were chatting, Mergin looked at the weapons and armor.
Hmm, everything seems well-made. The prices are reasonable, so it’s a good shop.
Mergin picked up an item that caught his eye.
Hmm?
It was a chest plate. There was no price on it. This looks like a single piece of monster scale.
The old man, who was chatting with Vanessa, glanced at Mergin holding the chest plate.
