The Great Sage Who Did not Remain in Legend - 43.2
“Right? Right?”
Rock was happy to be praised by his sister.
“Rikka, is this person your brother?”
“Ah, I’m sorry. I didn’t introduce him. This is my younger brother, Rock. He’s the heir to this workshop.”
“I’m Mergin. Nice to meet you.”
“Wait, are you going to marry my sister?”
“No, that’s not planned, and we’re not in that kind of relationship. Dad jumped the gun.”
“What? Didn’t you come to ask for Rikka’s hand?”
“I never said that! I said I came to ask for the kids’ armor and weapons!”
“Then you don’t think anything of Rikka?”
“No, she’s a nice person, and I think she’s beautiful.”
“W-Wait, Mergin, stop that!”
“Then what’s the problem? Just hurry up and take her as your bride. Then take over here.”
“Huh? What are you talking about, Dad? You’re going to have someone we don’t even know take over?”
“Rock, you don’t have the ability to take over this workshop. If you did, it would quickly collapse, and the apprentices would be left homeless.”
“What?! You think he could manage?”
“I don’t know if he has the talent to forge swords. However, he can probably train the apprentices. You can’t do either.”
Rock’s face turned red with anger.
“You say I can’t do either? What do you mean by that?”
“You said that sword was your pride, right?”
“Yeah, I put my heart and soul into forging it.”
“That’s right, Dad. While it’s true it’s not as good as what you forge, it’s impressive that he’s gotten this good at his age.”
“Right? Right?”
“Hmm, wait a moment. You all keep quiet.”
Saying this, the old man went deeper into the workshop and came back with a sword. Rikka and Rock gasped but held back their voices.
“Mergin, try swinging this.”
“Dad, it feels wrong for an outsider like me to get involved in family matters…”
Mergin felt awkward knowing that this sword was forged by the heir. He had criticized what he thought was an apprentice’s work.
“Just swing it already.”
The old man was relentless. Mergin had no choice but to draw it swiftly and swing.
“Huh?”
Rikka was shocked at the sight. Mergin was not a swordsman, but why did he move like that…?
“Yeah, it’s a good sword. There’s no wobble at all. It’s light to swing despite its appearance and the materials used, so even someone without much strength could use it well. Could it be the sword your dad forged for you when you were a child, Rikka?”
“You can tell that in an instant…?”
Rock was amazed.
“I could tell it was a sword forged with the user in mind right away. Plus, it felt like the ones in the store. I think the choice of softer materials makes it less likely to break and suitable for sharpening practice.”
“Oh, Dad… So that sword has that kind of meaning…”
