- Episode 1.10 (3) - Anecdote: My Dear Sister-in-Law, Nice to Meet You (From Milliardo's Perspective)
Even if I linger in front of the Grand Temple, I’ll just be chased away. The other guards seemed to have been released at staggered times, so there was no familiar face around me.
Reluctantly, I return home for the first time in four years.
When I opened the back door as usual, my mother, eyes wide with shock, was there. She seemed a bit older than I remembered. But soon, my father stood in the way.
It felt smaller than in my memories. However, the spirit was more than enough.
They glare at me without showing any signs of weakness.
After a back-and-forth argument, if I manage to pass by, my mother tells me with an exasperated tone.
“Anyway, I’ve decided to stay home for a while.”
“But you see, there’s no room. Ally is already using it.”
“What is that?”
Ally?
I recognize the unfamiliar name and deduce that it must be the disciple I adopted. My grandfather had always wished to pass on his bread-making skills to a family member. I knew of this wish, but Milliardo ended up wanting to become something other than a baker. I felt a twinge of guilt in the back of my mind, so it’s a joyful thing that he has found a disciple my father can approve of.
When I forcefully squeezed past the bouncer, I made eye contact with the girl standing at the entrance connected to the store.
A girl with glossy hair that seemed to have silver blended into pale purple flowers, tied in braids on either side, wearing a yellow hood. Her eyes, like her hair, were a mysterious silver-purple. She quietly directed her round, lovely eyes towards me.
She was probably slightly younger. Her porcelain-like skin looked as soft as dough, her plump lips were small and well-shaped. Her upturned nose was charming, and she was a beautiful girl with both beauty and cuteness.
However, it wasn’t just her appearance that was overwhelming.
She carries an air of purity reminiscent of when the High Priestess was in the temple. It’s as if she is purifying the air inside the shop.
I wonder if there’s a goddess, and I accidentally lose track of time.
“Thank you for the introduction. My name is Ally.”
She bowed slightly, and for the first time, I felt as if she truly existed in reality. Startled, I came to my senses and looked up at my father standing beside me.
“Wh-where the hell did you kidnap this woman from, you bastard?!”
“Who the hell is the old man?”
Balkas’s fist exploded, and Milliardo was blown outside.
“This bread is delicious.”
While Ally and her mother were preparing dinner, I couldn’t help but let out a sound as I stuffed my face with the bread set out on the table for snacking.
My father, who was sitting across from me and drinking tea, suddenly smiled.
“Ally made it. I make the bread for the shop, but she usually makes the bread at home.”
“Huh?”
The son of the baker, Milliardo, is a bit particular about bread.
If I had to say what was the hardest part about living in the temple, it was the bad bread they served. Having known the taste of home-baked bread, I just couldn’t get used to the temple’s bread. I never left it uneaten out of luxury, but my dissatisfaction grew.
However, I honestly thought the bread that Ali made was delicious.
Simple and warm. The technique is clumsy, but somehow it still tastes good. And for some reason, it makes me feel energized.
“The technique is still not quite there, but it turns out well. It’s a mysterious kind of bread.”
With gentle eyes, my father mutters softly.
Before Milliardo aimed to become a holy knight, he never made such a face while honing his skills to become a baker under his father’s guidance.
I might have felt relieved to pass on the skills inherited from my grandfather.
I felt guilty for being unfilial, so I’m genuinely happy.
I gaze at the bread in my hands and take another bite. I savor the bread, which has a mysterious warmth and kindness like Ally’s.
I swallowed the kindness that spread in my mouth.
