- Episode 1.4 - Bread That Helps Bring Happiness
“Oh, you came here a year ago? I can’t believe you decided to apprentice at such a bakery.”
“Don’t criticize your own family’s bread!”
“Shut up, you old bastard!”
“You guys should eat quietly during meals!”
After closing the bakery and sitting down for dinner, the usually quiet meal turned into something entirely different.
The feeling of having intruded into a completely different household just by one person entering is overwhelming. No, it’s probably just that Ali didn’t know, and the dining table with Milliardo is the usual scene of the Tambour family.
“Deli Baredo is a wonderful bakery. When I first tasted the bread here, my soul trembled. I regretted living without knowing that such delicious things existed in this world. I never even thought that food could help bring happiness to people. That’s why I can’t help but enjoy working here and seeing the smiles of our customers.”
I came to the Holy Capital at the age of six. My hometown was poor, but the Grand Temple provided proper meals. I no longer felt hungry, but if asked whether the meals were enjoyable, I could only deny it.
The meals served precisely on time in the assigned room were utterly tasteless. There was no warmth, just cold bread and soup. There was no one to talk to about the events of the day.
However, due to a certain trigger, I ate the bread from Deli Baredo. I can still vividly remember crying while eating it because it was so delicious.
When I answered with a smile, the person next to me, Milliardo, squinted his eyes as if he was tickled.
Across the table, Balkas is nodding in agreement.
“You probably already know, but Baredo is Grandpa’s name. This shop sells the bread that Grandpa loved. Helping people smile by selling bread—that was Grandpa’s motto… I see. Hearing you say that makes me feel like you’re my sister. Alright, from now on, I’ll be your brother-in-law!”
The first person to open Deli Baredo was Elder Baredo, I heard this first when I became his disciple. He is Narsha’s father, and it seems that Balkas married into the family.
It seems that they were taught the basics of bread-making. Since then, they have been told the significance of being a baker many times.
Delivering bread that supports people’s lives and helps bring happiness.
Therefore, Balkas does not become a servant of the nobility, refuses to teach that recipes alone cannot help with happiness, and sells bread equally to the customers who come to the store.
The reason he didn’t take on any apprentices was to ensure that there would be a place for the prodigal son when he returned, but he eventually gave in to Ali’s enthusiasm and accepted her as an apprentice.
“Don’t talk down to me.”
“Don’t you dare lay a hand on me, you abusive bastard!”
Milliardo grimaced after being hit on the head.
Even so, I was relieved to find out that he didn’t leave home because he hated the bakery.
I thought about how foolish my son must be to hate such a wonderful bakery and run away.
However, I never thought that a woman would be the Great Saint. I never imagined that my own royal guard would be a holy knight.
“Didn’t I tell you to stop fighting during meals?!”
Narsha’s scolding is somehow warm.
Ally was indeed munching on her dinner bread with a smile.
