The Green Tea Supporting Girl Is Still Playing Her Role Today (GL) - Chapter 13
Chapter 13
Wen Pinghan’s originally smooth house-hunting schedule was disrupted by Gu Zhizhang’s sudden appearance.
She thought about it overnight and decided to have the agent show her other properties.
But she spent all of Sunday looking and didn’t find anything suitable, so she asked the agent to keep an eye out and continue next weekend.
On Monday, she spent the entire day in meetings.
Having just been promoted to market manager, she attended meetings with leaders, meetings with subordinates, and handled the handover with Sister Tong. With so much to do, she stayed busy for three or four days. Sister Tong completed all her resignation procedures and treated her to a meal.
“Wu Fangda got fired, and that girl Xu Chang quit too,” Sister Tong said with a smile. “You’re much braver than I was.”
“Our situations are different. You had more to consider,” Wen Pinghan said fairly. If she had family or a partner who cared about her, she probably wouldn’t be so carefree either and would consider their feelings and thoughts.
Because she couldn’t have those things, she had to love herself more. In this world, only she would love herself unconditionally.
“Let’s keep in touch,” Sister Tong said after the meal.
“Okay,” Wen Pinghan said.
Every time a colleague left, they said this, but it quickly got buried in the flow of time, turning into a polite relationship of just liking each other’s posts on Moments.
Back home, she scrolled through Moments and casually noticed Xie Zhifei’s new post.
It was a night view photo taken from the company’s floor-to-ceiling window, captioned: [Off work, exhausted, hope the Xie leader sees my efforts.]
Wen Pinghan gave it a like, and soon after, Xie Zhifei replied specifically to her: [Eaten yet? Wanna grab seafood noodles?]
Wen Pinghan: [It’s almost ten. Guess if I’ve eaten?]
Xie Zhifei: [How about a late-night snack? My treat.]
Wen Pinghan declined her. She had to get up early for work to earn her measly pay.
After a hectic week, she finally adjusted to her new role, but then faced a new challenge.
The multinational project led by Xie Zhifei assigned tasks to the market managers. Wen Pinghan needed to compile the department’s performance data for the past three years, but she had only just met her new subordinates.
She organized her thoughts and sent a notice to the group chat, asking for cooperation. But it was Saturday, and as expected, some people dragged their feet, reluctant to work overtime.
Wen Pinghan planned to start on her own, but the workload was too large and scattered across teams, making it inefficient without cooperation.
She felt troubled. She had adapted to the new job but not fully to the new role. Although she wanted to sternly urge everyone in the group chat, as a former employee herself, she knew sudden weekend overtime was annoying.
Realizing she might soon become the kind of leader she hated, she decided to confide in a colleague. The first person she thought of was Lin Zhimin.
But that girl was on a date, so Wen Pinghan didn’t want to disturb her.
Then, she realized she didn’t know who else in the company she could talk to without them resenting her for ruining their weekend.
While scrolling through her WeChat history, she suddenly saw her direct boss.
Wen Pinghan: [Busy?]
Xie Zhifei sent a photo of her coffee table piled with documents.
Wen Pinghan: [Okay, sorry to bother you.]
Xie Zhifei: [No bother [teeth], I’m stressed out and need a break. Why’s Sister looking for me? Something up?]
The feeling was strange.
She messaged her direct boss, and her boss called her Sister. The absurd contrast made her laugh and cry.
Wen Pinghan: [Little boss, maybe don’t call me Sister. It feels weird. I’m scared [shivering].]
Xie Zhifei: [Scared of what?]
Xie Zhifei: [Sister Sister Sister Sister Sister Sister Sister Sister Sister, this is desensitization therapy. Call it enough, and you won’t be scared anymore [sunglasses].]
Wen Pinghan: [Thanks, I’m not scared of the Sister title anymore. I’m scared of the word ‘sister’ now.]
Xie Zhifei sent a goofy emoji.
Wen Pinghan laughed. Chatting with her relaxed her mood, and she naturally brought up today’s issue: [Little boss, got a question. How do I get my new subordinates to accept me quickly, complete the tasks I assign on weekends, and not hate me?]
Xie Zhifei: [No leader avoids being disliked.]
Wen Pinghan thought: No wonder she’s a leader. She sees things clearly!
Wen Pinghan: [I thought about treating them to a meal to build rapport, but it feels unlikely. Many don’t want to eat with a leader, especially an unfamiliar new one, let alone when the goal is to get them to work overtime.]
Xie Zhifei: [True, but this seems more like my responsibility. I assigned the tasks at a bad time. Sister, wait a sec~]
Wen Pinghan waited a bit but got no reply. Instead, she saw a new announcement in the leadership group chat.
Xie Zhifei: [Given the heavy tasks for the sales team this week, everyone who completes temporary tasks on time this month will receive a 30% salary bonus. Please pass it on.]
HR Director Ma Lin: Received [rose][rose][rose]
Market Manager He Huan: Received [rose][rose][rose]
Market Manager Wu Yue: Received [rose][rose][rose]
Market Manager Wen Pinghan: Received [rose][rose][rose]
After forwarding the message to her teams, cheers erupted, and the group chat was flooded with firecracker emojis, with everyone saying they’d start working immediately.
Wen Pinghan let out a long breath. There were no bad leaders, only stingy ones! Money could move mountains and make corporate slaves willingly work like oxen!
She quickly gave Xie Zhifei’s bold move a thumbs-up: [Thumbs up]
Xie Zhifei suddenly called via voice chat, cheerfully asking, “Sister, eaten yet?”
“Not yet,” Wen Pinghan said.
“Me neither. Come to my place. Let’s eat and work together this afternoon,” Xie Zhifei said.
Come on, who wants to go to their boss’s house to eat and work on a weekend?
“Sister, come on. Eating together is more fun,” Xie Zhifei insisted.
“How did you eat alone before?” Wen Pinghan asked.
“Didn’t really eat. I get too busy to eat,” Xie Zhifei said.
Wen Pinghan lowered her eyes, thinking of the table full of documents, and sighed.
Half an hour later, she called via voice: “I’m downstairs. Open the door.”
“Great, Sister! I’m coming!” Xie Zhifei said.
The door didn’t open for a while, but hurried footsteps came from behind. Wen Pinghan turned and saw Xie Zhifei carrying two bags of groceries and snacks, surprised: “You went grocery shopping?”
“Yup!” Xie Zhifei said.
“Can you cook?” Wen Pinghan asked.
“Nope,” Xie Zhifei said.
“…”
Wen Pinghan, hearing her innocent yet ruthless reply, fell into thought—damn, did she come to be a nanny?
“Sister, come in quick,” Xie Zhifei said, opening the door and inviting her in.
“Actually, I’m not great at cooking either,” Wen Pinghan said preemptively, in case the little boss ate poorly and fired her in a bad mood.
“Really?” Xie Zhifei said, handing her a new pair of slippers, passing the groceries to the nanny, and smiling. “No worries. Auntie’s cooking is delicious. You’ll see.”
Wen Pinghan: “…”
Right, a villa this big must have a nanny! Poverty brain moment, huh?
