The Green Tea Supporting Girl Is Still Playing Her Role Today (GL) - Chapter 14
Chapter 14
The living room was very spacious. Some documents were piled on the coffee table, and a laptop sat on the sofa, giving off a slightly lazy vibe.
“Sit anywhere,” Xie Zhifei said, pointing to the sofa.
Wen Pinghan sat down, took her laptop out of her bag, asked for the WiFi password, and both started working diligently.
They rubbed their necks and closed their laptops to eat only when the nanny called them for dinner.
“Good work,” Xie Zhifei said, pulling two boxes of Handsome Boy Milk from the fridge. “This or wine?”
Wen Pinghan: “…”
Was that the only choice in her house?
“Handsome Boy, I guess,” Wen Pinghan said helplessly.
Xie Zhifei placed the milk with a straw in front of her, then suddenly leaned close, her face almost touching Wen Pinghan’s.
Wen Pinghan leaned back: “What are you looking at?”
“What’s this?” Xie Zhifei asked, pointing to a red spot on her neck.
Wen Pinghan touched a small bump and said, “Probably a mosquito bite.”
“Is the mosquito that strong, or is your skin too delicate? Why hasn’t it gone down?” Xie Zhifei said, grabbing some herbal ointment and applying it to her neck. The minty smell spread, bringing a slight coolness.
Wen Pinghan flinched slightly. When she glanced sideways, she saw Xie Zhifei’s profile, her patient and careful expression adding a bit of charm.
Wen Pinghan looked away and said, “I can do it myself.”
“You can’t see it,” Xie Zhifei said.
“I can use a mirror,” Wen Pinghan said.
“Oh, right,” Xie Zhifei said, standing up straight and smiling. “But I’ve already finished.”
Wen Pinghan: “…Thanks, then.”
“You’re welcome. Let’s eat,” Xie Zhifei said, washing her hands and casually sitting next to her.
The nanny’s cooking was impressive. The simple dishes were delicious. Wen Pinghan ate two bowls of rice and even more vegetables, touching her stomach, feeling stuffed.
“Want to take a walk to digest?” Xie Zhifei asked.
“Nah, the sun’s too strong outside,” Wen Pinghan said.
“Let’s go to the basement. No sun there,” Xie Zhifei said.
…Damn capitalists!
She struggled for years to afford a small two-bedroom, and this woman had a two-story basement!
The first basement level was a garage, which she didn’t visit. The second level had entertainment facilities, including a spacious gym.
Wen Pinghan used the elliptical machine for a bit, then turned to find Xie Zhifei napping on the sofa.
She walked over, puzzled, and observed closely, confirming she was really asleep.
Not knowing how long she’d sleep, Wen Pinghan hesitated. Waking her might annoy her. Not waking her, she didn’t dare move or leave.
After a moment, she sat on the sofa, played on her phone, until a hand suddenly grabbed her arm.
“Mmm…” Xie Zhifei mumbled, opening her eyes groggily, grabbing Wen Pinghan to sit up, and asking weakly, “Fell asleep by accident. What time is it?”
“Almost three,” Wen Pinghan said, checking her phone, then staring at Xie Zhifei’s hand, hoping she’d notice and let go.
Instead, Xie Zhifei slumped, resting her head on Wen Pinghan’s shoulder, yawning: “So sleepy. Wanna nap?”
“I don’t nap,” Wen Pinghan said.
“Alright,” Xie Zhifei said, lifting her head, staring at Wen Pinghan’s face, her expression growing serious.
Wen Pinghan, confused, heard her say gravely: “Sister, you’re so pretty.”
“…” Wen Pinghan resisted the urge to retort and asked, “Awake now?”
“Awake,” Xie Zhifei said.
“Can you let go? I need to reply to a message,” Wen Pinghan said.
“Hm?” Xie Zhifei looked down, realizing she was still holding her, quickly let go, and smiled sheepishly. “Sorry.”
“It’s fine,” Wen Pinghan said.
The doorbell rang. Xie Zhifei went upstairs, checked the door’s screen, and saw Zhao Xiaojing.
When the door opened, Zhao Xiaojing dragged a suitcase inside: “Fought with my mom. Staying here a few days.”
“But…” Xie Zhifei said.
“Don’t try to convince me or snitch to my mom, or I—huh? Why’s she here?!” Zhao Xiaojing said, pointing at Wen Pinghan behind her, eyes wide with shock.
“She’s here to work overtime,” Xie Zhifei said.
“What? Why’s she working overtime at your place?” Zhao Xiaojing asked.
“I invited her. The AC’s on anyway, saves electricity,” Xie Zhifei said.
Zhao Xiaojing: “??”
Wen Pinghan: “??”
Both thought the same thing—her family needed to save electricity?!
After putting down her luggage, Zhao Xiaojing pretended to discuss family matters, pulled Xie Zhifei into a room, and demanded: “Is this your new scheme?”
“What scheme?” Xie Zhifei asked.
“Befriending the rival, winning her over, neutralizing her!” Zhao Xiaojing said.
Xie Zhifei touched her chin: “No, just invited her for dinner. I was bored alone.”
“Fine, your bestie’s here now. You won’t be bored. Kick her out,” Zhao Xiaojing said, waving her hand.
“Why kick her out?” Xie Zhifei asked.
Zhao Xiaojing rolled her eyes: “Got it.”
“?” Got what?
Zhao Xiaojing stormed to the living room but said nothing, curling up on the sofa, pretending to use her phone while secretly watching Wen Pinghan.
Wen Pinghan felt eyes on her, casually closed her laptop, and stood: “General Manager Xie, since you have a guest, I’ll head back.”
“No worries, just ignore her,” Xie Zhifei said.
Zhao Xiaojing: “??”
Her stare was piercing. How could Wen Pinghan ignore it? She said, “It’s getting late. I have personal matters tonight. I need to go.”
“Alright, I’ll drive you,” Xie Zhifei said.
“No, no, General Manager Xie, handle your own stuff. I’ll take a cab,” Wen Pinghan said.
“Then I’ll have the driver take you,” Xie Zhifei said, calling the driver without objection, leading her to the garage, opening the car door, and seeing her in.
“Thanks, General Manager Xie,” Wen Pinghan said, clutching her tote bag. “Go back inside.”
“Why so formal?” Xie Zhifei said, leaning on the car, looking at her sadly. “Sister, did I do something wrong?”
“No,” Wen Pinghan said.
“Then why keep calling me General Manager Xie? It’s fine at work, but so distant in private. I’m gonna be upset,” Xie Zhifei said with a wronged expression.
Wen Pinghan looked up, paused, and asked, “What do you want me to call you?”
Xie Zhifei pondered: “Just my name. No, full names feel too formal. Maybe something more intimate…”
Facing her blatant hints, Wen Pinghan nodded: “Alright, Little Xie.”
Xie Zhifei: “…”
